Oh how I want Billy Test to be discovered as a terrific and creative pianist- ahead of his time. Coupling with Goldsby and Delkker makes it happen for me, with true recreation of George Shearing to boot.
Just a brilliant trio. I like incredible jazz variations on piano, but also great bass solo and the nice unisono of both., It´s delightful composition, thank
Ah, there was a time when in many major cities in the US, music like this was performed live in bars and jazz dives every night of the week. Keep Jazz Alive!
John Goldsby knows the vocabulary of traditional jazz and has created his own style in a very virtuostic way. Good luck to him, he's a great improviser and pianist. I hope people love him and his music wherever he performs. I'd never heard of him or heard him play before this RU-vid video. Where is he now in 2021? He must have an agent and promoter. What are they doing for him? Is he famous in the jazz world? Was this performance a segment of a WDR big band performance? Was he the pianist in the WDR big band? When and where was this performance? Whoever posted this video should give us more information than they did.
Hi John, thanks for your comment. Could it be that you mean Billy Test on piano in your comment and not John Goldsby on bass? Billy Test has been complementing the rhythm section of the WDR BIG BAND on piano since 2018. I'm not familiar with any of the players in the WDR big band. They're all great. I thought it was the piano players trio but it was the bass players trio instead. I'd never heard any of them play before I saw the video and didn't know who any of them were. Thanks for posting the video.
Trotz Corona-Krise, kein Lockdown für guten Jazz und die originelle Interpretation von Billy Tests Georg Shearings Conception. Hervorzuheben ist das Unisolo mit Klavier und Bass.
@ Sounds The WDR BIG BAND is often referred to by its fans as the "band of soloists" because each member performs as a soloist in the big band context while also supporting the ensemble. The new series "WDR Big Band Small Groups" presents members of the big band in different constellations...
