I spent more than 30 years as a Union negotiator. You hit most of the points on how to negotiate. You sir are not just a former gangster but a very intelligent business man.
Michael made Gotti look like a fool because he seemed to know EXACTLY what was going to happen when he offered to buy Gotti out. Lo and behold, the shoe drops: Michael says the entire .market folded. I don't know why the Families didn't have Gotti whacked. So many others have been whacked for less serious offenses. He was just bad for business. He sounded like the kind of street guy who would call the cops to brag BEFORE committing his crime!
It’s hard to knock off a boss who’s well liked by his family. Could possibly start a war between the families which is extremely bad for business. (Edit:) They actually tried but ended up killing his consigliere instead.
That's a difference with a very fine distinction, especially construction. Even when you deal with mostly ethical companies, there's always a shady side.
This is one of my favorite stories of yours, Mr Michael. I love how you took an unbalanced situation and flipped it. That's an amazing skill - you pull off a win while making the other guy feel like *he* won.
I could see Gotti waiting and waiting for an opportunity to say the line “ I buy you out you don’t buy me out” to someone ever since he saw The Godfather
That and he was a lot smarter than most mob guys. Think about it. He was in premed. Most of the mob guys didn’t even graduate from high school lol. That’s what helped him the most.
@@unbearifiedbear1885 whats up with you gringos and this height obsession!? Lol yea it give a lot of advantage in a fight but thats not everything, I mean theres a lot of medium sized guys who dont take shit from a "giant", specially when a bullet dont discriminates height.
Being part of a group like that, full of power and money, anyone who messes with you you can easily whack him out, having build a successful millionaire scam.. it would be surprisingly strange if someone didnt have confidence by being like that. 🤷🏻♂️
Good episode today, Michael. I realize negotiation is a skill. But, what I notice is your ability to not get rattled despite the situation. That is enviable!
These memories of Micheal Franzese are life and lesson learning. They are somewhat therapeutic to listen to. Great to listen to/Learn from someone who was there.
@@BostonsF1nest the directors and producers of that film had real mob people as consultants. A lot of the mob lines in those movies are everyday language in real life.
@@BostonsF1nest wen ppl bring this up I get upset , you do know movies are fake right ? N they have real mob guys on set too help them wit the dialogue n give them insight on sit downs that happen .. who knows if they got the line from someone telling them about mike n gotti sit down , you gotta know that it would be dumb too lie on RU-vid wen ppl could actually find out .. trust mike ain’t lying
Gangster vs racketeer, is the same thing when I worked in a prison. Inmates would take pride in being a "convict"instead of just an "inmate." And all of us corrections officers would just politely smile and then roll our eyes when they walked away. Like man, what a thing to be proud of.
I did 15 years in NYS Corrections! From Attica to Great meadows to Clinton to Auburn to Eastern! First and foremost Correctional officers are the most corrupt , evil, vile human beings ! Secondly you can role your eyes all u want at the comment "imma convict over an inmate " but they ARE 2 different things ! I was ALWAYS a Convict ! I never did ANYTHING to help COs ! I would never sell out someone In green EVER! U guys had each other's back we had ours !
Like in the movie Donnie Brasco-You don't walk out on me...I walk out on you-..I hope you had a great weekend Mr.Franzese, and thank you for the upload again.Cheers.
@@michaelfranzese Mike a little off topic I do recall you saying Gotti was to Flamboyant bad for the life. Yet you've said that you had several businesses, Jets, and manions. Your place made Gotti's look like a box and you were a young man. Just sounded a little hypocritical to me.
@@theportugueselegend Right they did both get arrested, but that was referring to an early comment Michael made about Gotti. I was thinking that's a bold statement coming from Michael considering by his own admission the luxury life he lived. He made himself sound 10x more flamboyant then Gotti.
@@darren5942 Thanks man! I don't dislike Michael, but I'm probably not his biggest fan judging from things I've heard him say. I've viewed some of his videos, you may have too. He has spoken about Machiavelli several times one pretty famous quote from Machiavelli is "There is nothing more important than appearing to be religious"
This is actually a very useful video for someone in business not just crime. The way you handled that situation meant that you could exploit his ego to leave him in charge of what was essentially a sinking ship for him, and for him to see that as a win.
Great insights and example of how to negotiate successfully. Sometimes, to win, you have to appear to have lost. Love your download guide. Thank you, Michael!
Great reminder how everything in life is negotiated! If it involves two brains, there's a negotiation. I believe Michael Franzese could be a professor. Thanks so much for the content.
The Teflon Don was bigger than life for sure when I was living in NY. You do a great job of telling the truth about people, places, and things, Michael. Thank you for allowing us to set around your campfire while you tell the truth of circumstances, most of which are by 1st person reflection and lifetime experiences.
@@lalalola4479 Yep. I was working for my godmom in the Village and had to take an " E " or an " F " to Kew Gardens every night. And standing at the bus stop at 12:30 at night and not being afraid that some moron is gonna rob or rape you ( or worse ) because Goddaddy is running Queens IS A HUGE DEAL. Especially when the bus driver is in the process of taking his 20 minute break! 😀
@Emerald Woodlands Are you seriously trying to convince me that Sammy would have been different if somebody else was his " boss " ? And what exactly does " he forgot " " what he really was " mean? You do realize that there are people in Ukraine right now safe and sound on both sides of the conflict because I had the cajones to use Goddaddy's name- and nothing else? I repeat- if he was just a sadistic bully and an upstart, why are there so many people in the world who respect him and want to be him? And as far as wiretapping goes- that was a mistake and if I were a male and close to him, he never would have made it. But then again- I never would have allowed Sammy anywhere near Goddaddy. End of story.
Hi u doing mikey, my bf was in the life, he never was as big as u were but when he brought me to the "social club" i thought i was a princess because everyone showed me i cared for that tiny moment ( obviously i dont know if it was firreal now looking back) the Vese's family in my area had everything on lock 🔒, u couldn't go anywhere where im from without there presence especially in the entertainment) downtown area especially the infamous southend.....u had big nose and big A, then u had up and coming crews trying to make a name.....i love listening to your show, to me u are wat embodied the true meaning of that life....i love that u are reborn, are u still catholic or are u non denominational now? God Bless! Chin don, sauld!
THANK YOU MICHAEL FOR YOUR COOL STORIES AND WORDS OF WISDOM.I ALSO WAS BORN IN BROOKLYN AND NOW LIVING IN CALIFORNIA FROM THE AGE OF 10. I’M A LITTLE OLDER THAN YOU ARE AND LIKE LISTENING TO YOUR ADVICE AND STORIES AS IF YOU WERE MY YOUNGER BROTHER. I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR NEW BOOK.GOD BLESS AND HAVE A GREAT DAY! JOE ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great stories. When he says he doesn't remember the amount of money a "trade" went for, I don't believe it. But I understand why he doesn't want to reveal the actual amount of money.
Looking forward to the talk about Frank Costello. Read his biography that was written by his attorney. Fascinating read. Of course I am anticipating the Franzese/Gravano sit down more than anything. But I have also learned to be patient over the years.
@@JordanJMyers I have been thinking about it. My interest is strong enough I am getting closer to actually choosing to buying the full set of videos when they are available. But my kids will also be interested in watching them as well so they will get enough use to be worth the price.
Much respect to the both of you ... The life is not easy and only the strong survive ... The last man standing should know ... One man did not fall! Respect!
Great story Michael! Gotti was definitely a real old school hood and seeing that you were able to navigate situations with guys like him and then go right back to making millions for your Boss and other guys really speaks to the intelligence and street smarts you have. Incredible, I really don't think there were many guys like you in that Life. Meyer Lansky and Frank Costello are the only two that come to mind. Guys that could deal with incredible amounts of money and still have the respect of the blue collar type Gangsters. I think your father's mentorship really shines in stories like these. All the best to you Michael!
I love that story, Mr. Franzese. To see the inner workings between families is amazing and hearing it from someone that didn't get it second hand is pure profit.
@@michaelfranzese hey,Mike.I've read a story recently that Larry had a fling with your sister in the past and that he used to do drugs and got her involved too,is that true?
@@michaelfranzese lol you had no shoes in that interview and Patrick did have shoes. I commented saying you don’t walk around the city and bring your street germ into a mans house! In your second interview Patrick had no shoes on 😂
Ever since I found this Michael years ago, I was impressed with his perspective on systems and people. The mob is a system and the relationship with people is how they are able to operate. The fear of violence and death is how they are able to function so effectively.
It's crazy Michael looks damn near better now than he did back then, what is this guy doing or using?!? Cant wait for Mafia States of America and I agree with Michael 100% about the government
I've always liked hearing this guy telling stories about his experiences growing up in the mafia life and his dealings with people I've heard of and some I haven't. My personal favorite episodes and interviews are when he breaks down the mob movies and TV shows and tells you what's real and what isn't. I have a inborn talent for sniffing out a lie coming from anyone. This guy is not lying, exaggerating or holding back anything. Michael keep it up and I'll keep tuning in and watching.
I just subscribed. I find your lessons important and entertaining. Not knowing the life you were involved puts your lessons in a different life that I can still relate to. I negotiate a lot as the leas member in a band. I negotiate pay for each of my guys, accommodations, transportation, the whole 9. What I learn with your examples is to be respectful and diligent to those I have to deal with and I believe it will go along way. Thank you
@@stephenguarasci1041 honestly that’s what I Believe first but I came to research listen to information trying my best to find information and I heard that Sammy just talks a lot and that most stuff he lied
@@stephenguarasci1041 wake up guy. Gotti was the boss and everyone knew It. There was literally no way for Sammy to take the fall when they had hours of Gotti talking on tape. He even said on tape when he was in the can, that Sammy would run the family. Sammy has just been saying that to give him a valid excuse to rat. It’s bullshit lmaooo. He’s responsible for putting over 30 guys in jail 😂 meanwhile Gotti died in prison tied to a bed with cancer. And never talked to the feds. This is all facts right here. Do you what you want with it lmao
One of the few mob figures, who’s been able actually to live and tell about it… God was looking over your shoulders playa… 🙏 Like Sean Connery, you are one of those cats that look better older than younger, no homo! Keep Going….
That was awesome. I definitely need a strategy and a genius guidebook to help me negotiate with my own kids 🙇♀️✨ I’m always hoping that I’ll give them “an offer that they won’t be able to refuse”. Thank you, Michael!
Very Smart man! Not just a "Wise Guy"! Very smart! Even smart enough to come to the understanding of knowing his surroundings..and getting to know the "OTHER SIDE" of things. And...much respect to Michael for doing what he does today. And...perhaps...in his own way? He's helped more later than he hurt. Not the kinda life you'd wish on anyone...even if some "feel like they have no choice"! He made a Choice! And changed his life for the better! For his wife and his family!
Grew up in Gravesend Bklyn. Ave U 60's through 80's. Man, that neighborhood was Just like Good Fellas. I remember gettin off the trains on West 8th & Ave U bout 1AM.. Coming home from the San Gennaro feast in the city. Me, my moms,my Grandmother & my Cousin Liz. NEVER hadda look over your shoulder! NO fears! Nooo Body messed with Ya! Any time day or nite. God it was so nice. Its all gone. Nothin but Verry Fond memories. It WAS the Best. God Bless
I bet a lot of guys did. The way to get something off of someone like Gotti is to say you don't want it, or if you don't want something, you tell them you do. Gotti's ego was probably his downfall, but it was what probably got him so high up the hierarchy in the first place.
Expert move no doubt...it's the classic dog and a bone mentality, the same thing goes with girls, a guy says he doesn't care about a particular girl blah blah blah she's nothing blah blah blah....I've got 10 more blah blah blah..... All of a sudden some other guys show interest in he, or take her out on a date...boom ...all of a sudden he's jealous and mad at anyone showing interest in her😅
I miss those old Flea Markets, Ave I flea market, they had a great little flea market on Emmons Ave in Sheepshead Bay.. Used to be able to pickup some great stuff in the 80’s
Michael, months ago you started the series "Top 50 most rich and powerful mob bosses". Would you consider doing another episode on that? Your stories with Gotti have already been told many, many times, but I bet you have much more to cover on other prominent mob figures. 🙂
Michael, this is so true and I see it all the time in working in corporate America when trying to negotiate with competing groups within your own company. Everyone trying to make a name for themselves.
I LOVE the content! 🥰 And my favourite is when Michael says, "...hope everything is going well [or 'everything is good on your end'] everything is good on this end ...", such a Dad-type thing to say, it's like we're on the phone with him 🤣💙🥰 I love it! ... Michael's personality comes across, he's smart, and he is trying to follow God, quite admirable. Thank you for sharing your life with us!🙂
I have an equal amount of respect for say, Carlo Gambino as I do John Gotti. Low key vs high profile because they were the genuine article. People can have their own opinions regarding Gotti. Whether he was a big cause for the fall of the mafia in America or not, but what people don’t realize is that it was coming to an end as they knew it anyway. The big unprecedented Rico charges against the heads of the 5 families happened 10 months before the Castellano hit. That was the beginning of the end in my opinion.
Incredible stories! You are amazing to listen to Michael! I am personally a big fan of Gotti. I think he did a lot of good for the community. God bless you! 🙏
Me too!!! How could U not be a fan of JG! So much character and personality with charisma! And So outgoing while being friendly as well…. RIP John…. WE miss you!!!
Good for the community? A successful local market for the benefit of the community you speak of, and Gotti muscles is way in for the sake of selling drugs to said community, and the effing thing gets shut down in a matter of months. Yeah, standup guy that Gotti.
Mr. Franzese, You are an absolute pleasure to listen too. I am happy for you that you got out of the life and have an opportunity to do what your doing now. Your a very smart and fair guy, I'd work for you in a heart beat. I look forward to more of your videos. I wish you all the best. Dave Zannini
I'd still like to know the story behind how Gotti managed to take out a boss and get away with it? I know Gotti hated the hypocrisy of having to deal drugs behind the bosses back, when it was in fact the bosses who were benefiting the most from it!
Castellano was hated because he was a greedy egomaniac. Michael even has a story about a negative encounter with Castellano revolving around a bag of rotted chicken.
