I thank John Hughes for adding that layer of human emotion to the film. I found the characters way more human and relatable because of it and what they were going through.
I don't get what the hype is about the breakfast club, ferris buskers day off, pretty in pink etc. but planes trains and automobiles is funny. Some his later productions were far more entertaining
