from their mid to late 1960s album "Crown Him with Many Crowns"
Here are two extremely talented gentlemen who were one of the better gospel organ/piano duos of the past 50 years. The two gentlemen pictured are John Innes (left) and Bill Fasig (right) of the famed Billy Graham crusades. Both are very competent musicians and they trade off on each instrument. The album doesn't say who is playing what so it's hard to tell if it's John who's playing the piano or if it's Bill (or vise versa). Either way you look at it, both are proficient on the two instruments and each of them seems to have intimate knowledge of what the other is doing and either complements him or enhances his playing.
Although the organ pictured on top is a Baldwin, this particular recording features the Robert Morton Theatre Pipe Organ found in the old Lorin Whitney studio. These theatre organs don't seem to have the range that a traditional pipe organ does. But the organist on this recording makes a valiant effort to maximize the tonal resources on this magnificent instrument and seamlessly blends usual theatre organ and classical organ techniques into one. It's really quite a treat. The piano leads where appropriate and many times, it becomes the sparkling solo instrument. Listening to this song should help you understand the role the two instruments play when combined.
Bill Fasig died a number of years ago while I believe John Innes still plays in the Atlanta Georgia area. These two musicians are an inspiration to me and I think they'll inspire you too as you listen to them.

Bill Fasig just happens to be my father, and I also wish Moody Radio would bring back Hands in Harmony. Never tire of hearing John and Dad play!!

Debbie, I was with Baldwin Piano and Organ Co. during the times we provided the instruments for the crusades. Your father was truly a wonderful man, as is John. Dewey Kuhn

I knew your dad as well. We had dinner a few times. I lived about 20 miles north of you in Illinois. I have some pictures of your dad at the console of the Schantz organ at Wheaton's Edman Chapel in the 1980's. He was a great talent and had a missionary's heart.

I have this album and have loved it for years! In fact, I burned it to a CD some years ago and was listening to it just this morning (Because He Live and Like a River Glorious are two of my favorites) on my way to work. Funny story about this album and how I acquired it. Bill Fasig and John Innes did an organ dedication concert at the First Baptist Church in Willmar, MN - must have been about 1979 or 1980. They had a record table in the back and I wanted a couple of their albums (vinyl) in the worst way but I only had enough cash on me to buy one. But I didn't live too far from the church so I asked Bill (who was behind the table) if he would hold this one for me while I ran home and got some money. I told him it would be about 20 minutes and I absolutely wanted it so DON'T sell it to someone else!! I was emphatic. I went home, got my money and was back in about 15 minutes and was SO disappointed and frustrated that he HAD sold it to someone else. He said, "I didn't know if you would really come back." Aaccckkk. Poor guy. I was so mad at him!!! Anyway, they went back to Wheaton or wherever home base was at that time and sent me the album so I did get it - just a few days late. I have several of their albums. This one and The Gift of Music are my favorites. This was the first time I'd heard John play the piano, as I'd only heard him as an organist before. Sure wish some of these old albums would be digitally remastered and sold as CDs. John Innes has "My Favorite Hymns" on CD and that is a wonderful album.

I was at Moody Bible Institute the same time John Innes was a student there. It was always a joy to listen to his playing, whether it was the piano or the organ.

I so love the music of Fasig and Innes. How I wish Moody Radio would bring back the program ' Hands in Harmony.' I have a tape that I recorded off the radio back in the 80's, and never tire of listening. My father brought me a CD from Florida, (Keswick) back then and it remains one of my favourites to this day. If you have any more recordings please keep them coming!

I had the joy of hearing them in person several times in the 70's, 80,s and early 90's. The excellent performances were magnified by the live audience effect and often causing people to rise to their feet when finished. Thank you for resurrecting this recording. They made several others. Hope you can post some of those as well

Thank you for your kind comments. I'm married to Bill's youngest daughter. Bill was not just my father-in-law; he was my mentor and my best friend. I have some of their printed music and their recordings. You can find me via New Hope Alliance Church in Winchester, VA

John Innes is TOPS in my book!! Occasionally he would play piano at a Billy Graham Crusade, but usually he was on the organ and Tedd Smith at the piano. They were a duo that no one could beat. And, yes, John now plays the keyboards --- both piano & organ --- on "Songs in the Night" from Moody Church in Chicago. The program is heard at 9:30pm EASTERN over the Bible Broadcasting Network, Inc. (BBN).
