John is both a very humble man and extremely talented, much like Glen Campbell. Like Glen when he was alive, John has a giant legacy while still living. His guitar solos are incredible.

Great interview as always! I spent a couple hours at the Museum about 3 weeks ago. I absolutely recommend it if you're in Nashville, or make it your reason to visit. So much history, it's not to be missed! I'll be back next trip.

I saw John and his mates playing with the incredible guitar collaboration that was The Hellecasters at McCabe's Guitar Shop, in Santa Monica, sometime in the 90's. Three world class players in a evening of six string extravagance. They were all monster talents. It's hard to remember much about the show other than the fact that it was a great one! P.S. We must remember that That $75 Telecaster that dad was reluctant to buy is about $700 in today's money. Don't you just love inflation? I find myself always needing to do the translation for younger folks who find it hard to believe that you could get an ice cream cone from Thrifty, or a small slurpee from 7 Eleven to go along with your nickel pack of baseball cards, in those days. A father supporting a family of six could own a house on a two dollar an hour wage without his wife working outside of the home. "Sure, Pop..."

This is great inside.Thanks for sharing. I was looking for the second part about Django but had to realise this is brand new and so I will have to wait. I was person 200 to watch . Just to add a little anecdote. Joe Venutti played his Violin through my AC30 throughout a gig in Germany for 2000 people back in 1971 I believe it was. In 77 there was a half page memorandom in the International Herald Tribune about him and that he had passed.

Thanks so much for the insight. Also, the commercials are kept to a minimum which helps with continuity. What I first remember about John’s music was the thought Django, which surprisingly to myself was correct. A true renaissance musician and good individual. His legacy speaks for itself and he only needs to fill in small blanks.Good stories all. Again, thanks for the presentation.

Really interesting to listen to his 'bio' directly from him. The first time I heard about the SoundCheck flood was from a Vince Gill video. Until today, each time I heard of it again I thought, "What a tragedy." Nice to hear there were some up-sides to it even if you have to look really hard to find them. On another note: I got the month and day from one of your interviews. Now I know the year. I sent the message yesterday morining. If you got it late it's not my fault! :-)

Saw John in a very small venue in my town a few years ago. He was part of an all-star type lineup. What I remember most from that entire evening was John performing " Back on Terra Firma." It was incredible and totally blew me away. It influenced me to improve my playing and was the first song I put on my CD. Even with my limited ability it comes across as a great song. Thanks John.

I have the first series Texas Special Pickups in a Tele project from 1989. I had to quit taking it to Jam sessions, cause if I let someone use it for a few songs, they wanted to buy it. Wound by the grand dame of Fender winders Abigail Ybarra and still the best guitar that I own.

That man has played on a lot of albums by several different artists and bands... I MEAN A LOT! Great interview once again Joe, many thanks... George.. Edit At 8:42 If I remember correctly the SG was given the name Les Paul in 1961 because Les was going through a divorce and that had something to do with it.. But I've also heard that Gibson showed Les Paul the new prototype Les Paul guitar & he hated it, but it was already in production for that year... I find the latter hard to believe, but you never know...
@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum
@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum 3 года назад
George… watch my interview with Les Paul. It’s broken down into a few segments and I think one is why they stopped making the Les Paul. Look up Les Paul Guitars…Why They Stopped Making Them. It’s on my RU-vid channel. He did mention his divorce as being the major reason. Best, Joe

@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum Going to check that out now... I've owned a few Epiphone Les Paul's , a few Fender squires and a Gibson Les Paul Darkfire No.215 ( I fell for a gimmick guitar.. But hey at least it wasn't the Firebird X.. lol ) And the only thing i can say nice about the latter is the red nitrocellulose made the solid body look like it was setting 5 inches deep in it.. One of the sharpest Les Paul Guitar's I've ever seen.. But you know what they say about those sharp guitar's, sometimes they'll cut you... lol. All the electronics started to fail but i knew eventually that stuff would .. what i didn't know was Gibson planned to discontinue most of the parts 2 years after production.. I couldn't get the parts from the part maker Tronical because they stopped making them ( I hope they've gotten the QC department straight since then ) I know the Fender Stratocaster is easier to play along with being easier on your shoulders, back and hips and the neck angle on a LP almost makes it impossible to set the string action low but it's still my favorite electric guitar.. A glutton for punishment I must be.. Lol.. Thanks again Joe, take care and have a good one... George

A 61 SG/Les Paul is a fine instrument. Possibly the easiest playing guitar I've ever played ... and great tone too. A completely different beast than my 72 SG. Playing clubs for 5 sets a night is EXTREMELY difficult with a real Les Paul. The SG even hurt my shoulder by the end of the night. Back in those days, the SG was a great choice for club gigs, in my opinion.
@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum
@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum 3 года назад
I agree Steve… I had a 72 SG which I liked but it was not anywhere as good as early mid 60’s. The neck joint on the early 60’s was so thin it fit perfectly in the palm of my hand so you could play every fret easily. I also loved my 1974 LP Standard. Best, Joe
