I remember watching that on TV when it came out, me already a deeply convicted blues fan, at the age of about 21yr old. Hadn't really warmed to Robert Cray's own albums by this point - but was blown away by Cray's guitar playing - both blues & soul at the same time. Utterly changed my opinion of him after that. Recently, I bought Cray's first album - and wasn't impressed with the young Cray - but he sure blossomed into an awesome player AND singer. Who is the piano player ? Awesome too - giving a strong nod to Johnnie Johnson style there, if I'm not mistaken. Rest of the band showing simple but strong & effective backing, without intruding. JLH though again showing why he is Mr Cool ! Love JLH to bits !! This TV show was really fab. Could have been an aweful "showbiz" event but no, all the band did real homage & love to JLH and letting him be him. Some of the tracks on JLH's last bunch of albums (in his late life) were great - and some were dire (eg. the album version of Boom, Boom) - the band I'm talking about, not JLH !

was simulcast on BBC radio 2 back in '92 - I taped it - and boy did that tape get some usage over the next 10 years or so - until I somehow lost it - so happy to rediscover this concert. Was recorded somewhere in Marin (SF bay area) wasn't it? Anyone know the venue?
