Gary Oldman did a great job. But for me…. There was always something more endearing about Lithgow’s performance. My favourite scene of Lithgow is him as Churchill describing the death of his daughter to Sutherland while he paints his portrait. Crushes me every time

He played an amazing Churchill! He is an American yet he still manages to have a amazing old fashioned accent with age, I also was impressed by his stance and form throughout the season,he always had a hunched back and walked as thought John himself was in pain just like the character.

Sir Winston Churchill was actually part American. His mother, Jennie Spencer-Churchill was an American, born in Brooklyn, New York. Many Americans and indeed us Brits don't know that.

Nah. Robert Hardy was the best Churchill. He played the man NINE times. He didn’t live to see Gary Oldman’s performance in Darkest Hour, but he accurately depicted he would be the best. John Lithgow is a terrific actor, one of the best of all time, but he didn’t do Churchill justice.

Amazing actor. Can do anything! He’s actually very famous in the UK since starring in Santa Claus the movie like 30 plus years ago! Great in the great British bake off and superb at playing Churchill, he’s best role I’ve ever seen him play. I should be given a British knighthood or something 😀

Unless Lithgow applies for British Citizenship he can't be knighted. He can probably get an honoury Knighthood but that's it. Only British citizens can be awarded OBE, MBE etc

I believe John Lithgow should be made a honorary Knight Commander Of The Most Excellent Order Of The British Empire for is rather splendid portrayal of Sir Winston Churchill who during his time as Prime Minister during the Second World War was the constituent member of Parliament for Wanstead & Woodford and in the neighbouring ward was Sir Clement Attlee and the old constituent office still stands and when I was younger it was the area’s Conservative Party club and offices and now is a pub which is in many ways a fine tribute to the greatest leader of the twentieth century in my humble opinion and Lithgow has made the Iron Man proud.

Daniel Green the reason Churchill is so adored over here is because whilst he wasn't perfect he was a strong leader through WWII and London and other places in the uk were completely bombed out even today in London they still find unexploded WWII bombs

What kind of fairlytale nonsense are you trying to convey "UK and London were completely bombed out". No they weren't. The terror war of civilian bombings is fairly well documented. It escalated but in no way was London and UK worse off than the metric tons of bombs dropped on German cities or the Eastern front.
