From Sex Pistols lead singer to Public Image Ltd. and beyond, John has remained one of the most dynamic figures in the music world, and this translates directly into his new memoir, Anger Is an Energy: My Life Uncensored. Indeed, if only our John could rule the world, no shit, no messing, end the snakes and help people remember themselves'. Look past his outer shell of self-protective, common talk, he's a genius, an intellect, a person who is real, seen it, felt it, but is shy so talks honestly with brashness, but honesty, as a Robin Williams style way of projecting their intellectual awesomeness, genius, and deep knowledge, in the guise of a non-believable joker/fool etc. Long live John x

Billy Idol talks like Lydon. Same switching to lower register all the time to animate what he's saying. Can imagine Idol was somewhat influenced by Johnny Rotten and The Sex Pistols. I have seen better interviews with Lydon. Here he is in his own head (and the bottle) a bit much and ignoring the interviewer. Otherwise he is an interesting and witty guy and has a great marriage to a beautiful lady.

I like Lydon but he lacks humility and he is not as honest as he would have us believe. To say he has copied no one is a nonsense. EVERYONE has copied (call it inspiration if you will) someone and for him to suggest otherwise is dishonest and more than a little narcissistic. For example I can hear Dylan in his phrasing, particularly in his Sex Pistol days. Lydon is far more 'showbiz' than he would have us believe. Still, I like the man's music
@laurenceschwartz8606
@laurenceschwartz8606 2 года назад
I like his music as well. But my problem with him is that for someone who posed as so anti-establishment during his youth, he is about as establishment as you can get and revels being in the media spotlight.

John McGeoch needed PIL to start a career? Sorry, I like Lydon but he does talk some utter shite. As for total honesty, I think Steve Jones is more honest than John will ever be. As for John's latest own goal in court regarding the use of Pistols songs in the film about them leaving him 'bankrupt'. Lol. Plonker has to create a stupid court case. Still, I hope his wife doesn't suffer & I'm sure John will give his all caring for her. I respect his stance on monogamy etc. I certainly don't believe he's short of money though.

Soz but they were a flash in the pan (IMO they're more interesting as solo artists or in their subsequent bands like PIL). The Pistols only had one album and it was no way near as interesting musically as it was politically. The Stooges or New York Dolls outclassed them in terms of music and talent ten times over. But it does always fascinate me how they seemingly got together (replaced Matlock with Vicious, who then fucking died age 21!), and then imploded in the States in just 2 1/2 years. And then released that bizarre rock n roll swindle film. Credit for pissing off so many in such a short time, and swearing on tv (in such a funny and lovable way, making a mug of that sleazy c*nt Grundy), and just for their amusingly roguish schtick - Vicious was genuinely pretty and exciting, despite being a complete moron (IMO the star of the band), Lydon (clever and charismatic, and had the trousers to form PIL, the infinitely superior band musically), Steve Jones (the hilariously witty and priapic), Matlock (the cheeky chappy who wrote the actual licks) and Paul Cook (the quiet but tight percussionist). I do salute their achievements but for someone who wasn't alive in 1977 they does just seem like, frankly, a swindle. A uniform, a brand, ironically antithetical to their bold claims of independence and originality. Or at least what they initially presented to the world, almost as quickly became a parody of itself. As ubiquitously irritating as a Che Guevera poster on a students' wall, the Pistols 'look' and attendant t-shirts sporting the Never Mind the Bollocks logo became just as cliche as Emerson Lake and Palmer or Pink Floyd. In fact if it wasn't for Johnny's antagonistic attitude and talent for pithy one-liners, usually deriding another band, they wouldn't be as renowned for hating on Pink Floyd and prog bands as they are reputed. In fact, baring Johnny, they were all pretty uniform in their taste (Steve Jones love Rod Stewart), Sorry but they were a manufactured boy-band whose image just happened to be that of dirty little muckers who swore and shouted about the Queen, largely fuelled by Malcolm Maclaren's grandiose ambitions and eye for publicity, and tapping into a very specific youthtful rage. Right place, right time. They were a fabrication, albeit a sophisticated one. Frankly Siouxsie Sioux had more mileage, compared with the Pistols staid three-chord rock. And then just as soon as they started the wheels fell off, as they always do with flashes in the pan. I'm sure it was exciting for those who were there, or those who claimed to be ;) But I'd invariably put on a PIL record over that Pistols one any day. And frankly the Stooges, Johnny Thunders or Ramones were far greater too. Any group who favours imagery and political messaging over actual musical integrity, will be resigned to only ephemeral success. I salute their bravado and balls. And for giving England's youth a pulse for a year or so. But that's it. THIS IS JUST AN OPINION. I HOPE PEOPLE ACCEPT THE NUANCE OF IT AND DON'T JUST SWEARILY CONDEMN ME. CHEERS.
