"If I was a true anarchist I would recommend everyone buy Britney Spears albums. But I'm not. So keep buying the Clash!" Never a truer word has been said.
It was the Brixton riots that were the result of Margaret Thatchers poll tax. You have no idea. J Rotten is taking the piss out of Brittany and the Clash. Get it? There is nothing sweet or cool about it. Goth is just a trend so is emo. It's like wearing a costume in black looking like a join -in. No anthem, no message no idea. D
Good thing about Johnny is that he is frank and brutally honest about his views and opinions. This guy appears to be more trustworthy than most people I know.
I would argue that nobody is needed more in the world right now than John Lydon. He is the antidote to the poison. And I value his insight to a degree that I cannot even quantify. I admire him DEEPLY.
The longer this film went on, the more he drank, which led to more insults, which in turn caused me to collapse in hysterics. Right now there are tears streaming down my face....'maybe it's because I'm a Londoner'. I salute you Mr. Lydon.
TheGooners11 correct sir, Britain has gone to shit, English kids get suspended from school for having a crew cut hairstyle yet Asian kids can attend the same school in full headdresses faces covered and dots on their foreheads???? Fuckin crazy
Apparently you don't understand him. Why would you write what everyone watching this heard? Wait...Johnny Rotten would see exactly why you did it. You feel you've gained some cheap notoriety writing word for word what he just stated. Or...Maybe your writing a book of quotes or your just making sure we remember....No, you've seen others do that and you copied them. Wankers like you always will... AND.... ONLY Wankers would think that was clever. It's not. Are you gonna go buy a new spiked leather jacket next. In my generation you would be called a poser.
Every time Johnny Rotten opens his mouth I listen. He is brilliant and his common sense take on things is bang on. If he was PM of England he'd genuinely do an outstanding job. God bless you John Lydon, you are a treasure!
Those guys at the pub missed a once in a lifetime opportunity. I would love to accidentally bump into Lydon down at a local. I'd be siding up beside him with a couple pints, and I'm sure I'd be in for an amazing half hour of fantastic conversation. The world needs more people like Johnny, especially now. Salt of the earth.
I used to live in Venice Beach, California. There is a taco shop near the end of Washington Blvd that I frequented (still do when I visit LA). Once, Johnny came in - and I instantly recognized him. I was hoping he would sit at the counter and eat, but he ordered take away and soon left (he lived in area).
He was a yuppie himself I saw him at the Randolph Hotel in Oxford with is the poshest Hotel in the city and were royalty usually go when they visit he's such a hypocrite
If I was in that pub then, I would have given him the biggest hug as big fan, asked for autograph, bought him a pint, taken selfie and said thank you for the great music!!!!!! I would love to have opportunity to meet him! Good tour, all is true!!
No I couldn't :-) He is a star. He made the music history. I wouldn't bother him or scream in his face like a teen, just give him bit of recognition. Perhaps the man in the pub didn't recognize him, if he did he would appreciate the moment :-)
Johnny Rotten Lydon has aged like fine wine, and will forever be youthful in spirit with a twinkle in his eye, even when he's 100 + yrs. old. Thanks for the tour, John! Yer so much fun! Yer pride in British civilization is evident, as is yer disappointment with the current state of affairs in London. You have earned a proper place in British history by now. Loved how you ended your tour on the rooftop at sunset with memories of Gunther Grove when you were young during your rooftop party days. Good times! Then the gentrification of London sent you over the edge...goodbye, cruel world! Then - surprise! - you popped back to life, like a cheerful, impish sprite - ha, ha, ha! You're truly loveable and adorable! : ) Cheers to you, John!
@@dwayneharden5333 the same thing is happening in Liverpool, the waterfront is virtually unrecognisable to what it used to be 30-40 years ago. There’s awful buildings there now that just don’t look right there.
hes so right about the archetecture in london. its so sad that they keep knocking down nice buildings and building shit ones. its losing all its character
Clariccy Jones yes. I grew up in london in the 80's and I actually miss all the old warehouses and factories, even the ones that were run down. now I feel like Im not wanted anymore. most new places are all fenced off and sterile
He's right, it's happening everywhere. Buildings with history, things that would stand a thousand years if you let them - replaced by some shitawful pile of glass and aluminium that looks like a cat's vomited it up. They'll stand 20, maybe 30 years and then be replaced by some other soulless kak. Even when I come across modern architecture I don't mind, it has a place - and that place isn't the centre of London, or any other city.
battersea powerstation is currently being turned into posh fats, no doubt covered in glass. the old cranes he goes past in the video have already been knocked down. those cranes were so awesome
He knew what was going on and they tried to silence him by banning him from the media outlets back in the day. What they didn`t envisage was the likes of social media of today which is a little more difficult to police. The truth came out in the end didn`t it. Love this guy, Brutally honest and proper genuine.
Yes he is,.I watched this for the first time years ago and his observations about London keep coming back to me over and over and things continue to get worse.
@@marks238 he says no lie. Uk is a Left... but liberal State, with Europe DDR "architecture" in a Old Country.Even an Spanish lad, Married like me (no one speaks properly) can buy drug in the South of London, in front & before wis wife. He is a conservative and liberal & Malcon MacLaren wasnt his boss.. he is their ownself boss
I was in a London pub in the eighties and went to put a song on the jukebox. From the guy in a red beret, sitting beside the jukebox, came an unmistakable voice. " Who ya putting on? When I told him it was Lloyd Cole and the Commotions he simply replied " C***." Knowing him to be a secret Krautrock fan, I said " Well, they haven't got any Can." He smiled and asked me where I came from and who I supported. When I told him Battersea and the Arsenal he was immediately friendly. I left England 26 years ago and feel just the same way about modern London.
Everything I have seen about John has made me love him more and more.My beloved younger brother was a serious Sex Pistols fan,and he was so in awe of him.He has a wonderful presence and is both clever, brutually honest and very lovable.Love you John.🙏🥰
The best and most informative tour of London I have seen. Straight to the point and doesn't give a toss. I would have paid a fortune to have been on the bus at the time.
I love how you can see and hear Johnny Rotten the Punk and also see and hear John Lydon as himself in this. Not that John Lydon isn’t himself as Johnny Rotten but there is definitely a “difference” between the two.
What's the difference between John Lydon and a coffee machine? A coffee machine has a filter. He's only saying what many people are thinking but don't dare say it. The world needs more people like John.
@@anthonyfrancis2374 , why the stupid comment? I thought it was a good description of JL's character. If you're not a fan then maybe FO and make your vacuous trolling comments elsewhere.
@@leontherussian When you grow wise you realise it’s all nothing but the illusion of choice and the system just serves its corporate masters and doesn’t give a shit about people.
@@jaywilliams720 no but he was a great and well read leader and it is a real observable trend that really happens. People don't get less wise and experienced with age but they do get more conservative. Even the hippy generation. Why do you think that is??
I love how his views continue to piss off a lot of people! He hasn't changed and it's amazing and hilarious to watch people misunderstand him to this day.
Just ran across this, and John has his opinion that's a little cynical as he has a hard time dealing with change in a global economy. Still nice to hear an honest stand. As an architect, you should watch Howard Roark's defense speech from the Fountainhead for a touchstone to hold onto. It'll fortify your integrity. Cheers
This is EPIC. The spirit of the original Johnny Rotten is as strong as ever. And it's astoundingly ironic that this icon of anti-culture has to come back and tell the English what their culture really is :-))
This is an outstanding tour and his comments are spot on, London has become full of ugly buildings that have no place among the traditional beautiful older buildings and places.
@@drumgold23 He is a patronizing, bitter cvnt but he's not a tax exile. He is an American citizen, which doesn't help him with tax, but it does make him more of a cvnt though. He's been campaigning for Trump wearing his slogan 'Make America Great again! ''He put's yer money in yer pocket, that's wot we need! What a cvnt!
@Slarti Bartfast Your presumptions about me gave me a good laugh. You honestly couldn't be any further from the truth about me. I think you may well be right about Trump winning though. It's not like there are many options.
Johnny Rotten, every time I see this guy or feel his attitude through a video or a song... It reminds me of my best friend I grow up with. I miss my friend very much, he is dead and I remember him like he was here yesterday. Thank you Johnny for just being you, it keeps my memorys of Jason fresh in my hart every time I see you.Johnny, thanks.
I'm a tourist, and I've just visited London and I completely agree with him, it was a bit sad to see the city London is turning into. All those "modern" buildings have nothing to do with London whatsoever
I love this...it's a direct connection to the concerts the Pistols gave on Christmas Day, 1977. He's really about having the opportunity to carve out your space, and appreciate the spaces others have carved out. I wish I had been quick enough to get that the first time...
Since I got engaged when I went to London I love the tour aspect. Very interesting with Johnny Rotten serving as a tour guide. Thanks for posting. You rock!
Edward Bliss Yessss and Johnny Rotthen aka John Lydon is sooo right:All this modern shit in London makes me angry too, because I was in London in the middle of the 80s & in the beginning of the 90s very often. The old London with Tower Bridge,Big Ben and much, much more of London was fantastic!!!!!Johnny say it right and a big good smile for that,Johnny: at 17:39 What they done to these town? It´s kill the culture,we know that is an alien object (that what I understand) when they showed the ugly new buildings and he said:Another 100 Years? No chance of it..!!! I hope it and when he said:Blow it up(sorry for my english) ,I totally agree with him. We need loads of another Sex Pistol moments;-))
+signoguns....You mean wit The Libertines Pete Doherty(sorry when I write him wrong) but Pete looked a bit like Sid when Pete was young and looked good....okay Sid was a heavy heroin addict but so beautiful for me....Pete is not to pretty at all but he still lives and I think he is clean now.
I agree with everything you say Mr. Lydon - "BLOW IT UP!" The bastards have done the same de-humanizing here in NYC. I was born and raised here and I don't even recognize this city / my neighbourhood anymore.
Same thing is happening in Chicago where I live, they're building a bunch of new disgusting soulless glass buildings everywhere, they're making every city look the same and it's really sad
"We know that's an alien object..." HAHAHAHA He's right. And that bit about shy people is spot bang on. Even at clubs, people don't dance they just stand about with their arms crossed. This is a sad time to live in.
I agree with +jamz0007 and + Bookworm 4, because Johnny is really a intelligent, amazing & a funny guy and I come from Germany but I was in the middle of the 80s and in the early 90s very ofen in England LONDON & GREAT YARMOUTH...He is right with that what he saying. So I love the old ENGLAND and not the new buildings!!! BLOW IT UP ;-D
He is the reason I packed up my Rickenbacker bass and flew to London from New York, as a 20 year old, in 1980 to spend a summer jamming with like-minded folks.
I genuinely think exactly the same as John, it’s insane! The more I learn the more I think John just says it as it is and literally hits the nail on the head
What an insight this MAN has. Nothing escapes his critical eye... And he's always right. Congratiolations from Holland Johnny Rotten. I remember laughing again...!
I should say, I am 70 years old now, and I have seen it all change, not much of it was ever for the greater good........... just the rich and they get richer at our expense......... no change there then............
The dodgy pub in a dodgy area he is drinking in used to be my local as i grew up opposite, Sadly like many great pubs it is now flats, RIP THE BELL PUBLIC HOUSE.
Haha! "Champagne socialism". Beautiful. "All like clipped budgies in their cages". True. He's still soooo refreshingly non pc and observant. He verbally paints in expressionism.
