Yeah he’s an inspiration some things I don’t agree with but I respect greatly for that because he has the intelligence to be the same way about others.
I love Johnny. Amazing, articulate, highly intelligent. He speaks a lot of sense. Would love to meet him one day. Love all his work. Coolest guy in rock! xx
Typical leftist channel, throwing in a photo of Thatcher - who was NOT in power throughout the punk era. Marxist Labour was destroying the UK while people were rioting.
@@sexobscura What methods? Oh you mean the methods used to save Britain from becoming a 3rd World country. As opposed to the methods used by Mao and Guevara to open people's skulls.
John Lydon talks a lot of sense. I have never met him personally, but from what I have seen of his TV appearances, he has given a lot of serious issues a considerable amount of thought and reflection. He is intelligent, articulate and gloriously eccentric, three reasons why he is interesting and always worth watching.
Nomadmandolin You are right about those points. Unfortunately, some of his former fans do not like to see the intellectual side of John Lydon. Then there's the Establishment figures who always thought of him as radical, outspoken and dangerous. So he is probably getting rather isolated in the UK now, in terms of popularity and influence, although independent thinkers will always see the sense of what he is saying because their minds have not been programmed to pre-judge him before he opens his mouth. Sadly, there are fewer people who think independently than there are bigots from all sides, but I don't suppose it'll stop JL and it won't stop me admiring the sensible things he says.
+Blues fan He's never been more liked in the UK, I think, over the last ten or fifteen years or so he's started to become thought of as something of a national treasure. Even by people like my grandmother who thought during the 70s, 80s and on that he was the lowest of the low. After he made something of a comeback to the public consciousness in the early 2000s, his popularity has soared! It warms the cockles! :)
+Lesley May Indeed! So many people are unaware that he is a truly reflective and very intelligent man. It would be an awesome conversation, and experience in general
@@PetePapadakos He knew what Jimmy Saville was doing and talks about it as if he was proud of it.No guts and obviously a mercenary. Wanted the money too much.I am disgusted that the fact he would sing the Lyrics and yet allow what happened.Shame on him.
I feel like he’s a hero, tells it like it is. I was 15 when the Pistols appeared. He outed Jimmy Saville for the monster he really was. I could listen to John talking all day.
I don't think Saville was more powerful than the Royal family ,Richard Branson ,Margaret Thatcher,George Bush & others on the receiving end of Lydons comments.... Check out the printed attack & impression about Jimmy Saville from the comedian/actor/'magician' Jerry Sadowitz ..or the Irvine Welsh 'book character' -both are still very much alive... I'm not putting down Lydon was a 'Hero to me' in late '70s to early '80s - but I don't think the 'Savile comments' amounted to much - the complete Lydon interview is available on YT ...& it amounts to very little...when Lydon states "I know some rumours" it sums how silly this whole 'Lydon tried to take down Savile' story really is.
@@andchat6241 You're correct. That gobbet has been homed-in on since his death, but it was only a bit of throwaway speculation on Lydon's part. He didn't KNOW, just felt uneasy about Savile and said it.
Jenny, what I find frustrating is that Lydon always talks about "telling it like it is" & "the Truth" - but his exaggerations (& his adoring fans acceptance of this nonsense) is getting worse ..an example -saying "he was banned from the BBC" (after he "outed Savile" in early '78)... But he appeared on Jukebox jury in '79-TOTP in 1978,'79,'81,'83,'86 etc..on 'Whistle Test 1979,'84,'86 etc & various other TV & Radio shows on the BBC.......
Everyone talks about what Lydon said about saville in that one particular interview but what about off camera ? Do you really think Lydon just kept his mouth shut while around familiar people ? Saville was intertwined with the royal family. Enough so that one of the members ( I forget who exactly ) of the royal family made saville godfather of his children. The royal family even appointed saville as the head of a mental asylum at some point. I think Lydon knew that saying to much about saville was literally a life and death situation. So who here would be willing to risk their life to take down saville given that you were in the same situation ?
Nomadmandolin ;Talk about Keep it Real...NeverEver gets repetative..just like his best Lyric's...His Honesty..for me is The best Example of Anyone..out there..willing to speak the truth..much to most of his fellow aged..poloticians..et al..Chagrin..!Live The lyricx..Stay Honest.-Simple.
Johnny Rotten, John Lydon, John, johnny... Well, I just can`t express enough how grateful I am to still have you among us (because to be honest, the first time I saw and listened to you I had no doubt you wouldn't be around for so long.... and fortunately I was wrong!) Yeah, we still have a genius among us
Loved him in the 70s and love him now. Nothing 'rotten' about him, he's an especially decent human being; talented, clever, honest. He has principles and that is rare and he has dimples :)
I think Strombo has done something amazing here with John Lydon. He spoke without the knife of disdain stabbing at everyone and everything. Beautiful interview and maybe my favourite John Lydon interview ever.
No wonder Malcolm and Vivienne were parisites. They rode the back of true talent and Lydon exposed them. I respect John. Don't take shit kids. Don't trust what anyone tells you... But trust this man.
To be honest i hated his music, and his persona as a member of the sex pistols, now many years later, i find there are very few people i admire more, what a wonderfull honest human being he is!
We in the UK need you Johnny! You always keep to your word and tell nothing but the truth, this is what we need. So much accuracy about the education system, the need for respect and the government etc... we need ya 🙌😄❤️
@Jesse It's as if the masses have narcissistic personality disorder. People's egoes have become hypersensitive and intolerant to any form of disagreement. The days when two people with differing opinions could engage in an interesting conversation and part the better for it, with neither feeling they "won" or "lost" are, unfortunately, long gone, along with self respect and maturity. All part of the indoctrination process, I suppose, because if you're lacking in self respect and maturity, you'll buy anything, even if you have to borrow the money to buy it.
The whole “they love each other” bit about post tsunami/class of nuke em high Japan was beyond laughable. Funny how westerners just automatically assume that places - far away and other than their own home countries - are some how love fests full of idyllic equality and 70s soda commercial soundtracks. No, sadly, the human race - on this planet - does not love another (least of all our Nihonjin cousins). Looking at the world now - away from this old interview - Mr. Lyndon must see the cheek in his own thinking. We couldn’t be more divided and controlled.
"The whole “they love each other” bit about post tsunami/class of nuke em high Japan was beyond laughable" Why was it laughable? It was an interpretation of a culture of honour. They did love each other, not everyone but more so than western nations purely focused on individualism rather than the individual and the collective. Japan was more of a collective nation at the time as well, Japanese soldiers would sacrifice themselves from the air into firey balls of flames just because the feeling of duty and the love for themselves and their country, was so large that it even extends to today when their society has completely reinvented itself. "Funny how westerners just automatically assume that places - far away and other than their own home countries - are some how love fests full of idyllic equality and 70s soda commercial soundtracks" That's you just making assumptions about all westerners based on your own anecdotes. Most of the people I know, know the world is a dangerous place but that's anecdotal too haha. "No, sadly, the human race - on this planet - does not love another (least of all our Nihonjin cousins)". You're talking from your own nihilistic and anxious perspective. We are divided but we are also, so damn connected. And to say the least of all, Japanese people? Bro, have you been to Japan? They have subcultures of fashion that try to purely mimic western cultures. They have travel all over the world, they are so respectful and seem to quite easily, feel shame and apologise to everyone. If you think the Japanese or even, people in general don't love humanity, that isn't them. That's you projecting your own fucking bullshit on the rest of us and them. Have a fucking joint and go watch Jordan Peterson videos on Nihilism mate. Life can be shit but it's ten times worse when you bring everyone down with your negative bullshit. We are divided and controlled but not against each other, against belief based on the lies of media and the powerful.
I like this interviewer. He's not letting Johnny off the hook but he obviously likes him. I couldn't do that. I'd end up sucker punching him when he got up to leave (cause I'm a jerk and I've always wanted too). This is a MUCH better interview than I could have done. This is a great interview.
We need political leaders with this man's creed and attitude in particular honesty. Johnny, you are lucky you didn't end up in a bank. Thank your lucky stars.
Would be a fascinating person to bump into on a sandy beach totally removed from any sort of planned interview gig situation and sit and have a beer with. Love his care free attitude and even if it was to be told to fuck off and leave me alone on that sandy beach.
John tells the truth and very honest, unlike many other people, I hate liars too, or people who hold out with secrets ...just say it how it is, then at least we have a chance of solving problems or situations.
anyone know where to get the sons of norway film in the USA? Also, I don't mind the Ramones, but if we're gonna be honest, they were all over the place, they were the original pop punk band and also had internal strife for all the wrong reason, Johnny stealing Joey's girl. Johnny was a far right asshole, while Joey didn't give a shit and Dee dee was lost. They were and are nice to listen to, but they didn't have much to offer in the intellectual sense.
When he does interviews that aren't 'in character' as Johnny Rotten -- i.e. speaking just as John Lydon from Finsbury Park -- he's very much nicer and more thoughtful.
I do feel sorry for the world he had to grow up in. Being bullied because he skipped a year of school??? We had a kid in class, too, that suffered from meningitis and was often absent, but us classmates never ever excluded him when he returned. Or the expression "social climber". Well, Britain has very much a class system, something I luckily never experienced, so I cannot imagine how it is to be born in a position from where you have no perspective to change your situation and get out of it. I suppose that is why so many Brits who can afford it go to the States: the class system there is money, so it's easier with a bit of cash to climb the social ladder.
one thing you can always rely on is when the media tries to paint someone as bad "lydon" they're usually the people who you should side with. and when they try to paint someone as good "jimmy saville" they're the ones you should hate the most. remember when lydons "kill list" interview was repressed? i'll always be on the side of punk, individualism, square pegs in round holes, the outcasts.
You missed the point entierly. Ramones songs were about what? Sheena and so on basicly girl songs. Stooges made songs about almost everything. Sex pistols were the first ones to basicly make politicly or anti-authority songs for the most part. I never said sex pistols created PUNK ROCK I said they created Punk Movement in the snese of being anti-authority. What you Americans cant read?
Not true Johnny! The Ramones practiced at CBGB‘s and didn’t have guitar cases they would carry their guitars on the subway, johnnys Manager Malcolm McLaren got fired by the New York dolls for being too nerdy so he went back to England and stole Richard Hells safety pins and spiked hair look and may the pistols, Watch the interview with Johnny and Marky Ramone & Henry Rollins on stage in a interview, Marky verbally beat up Johnny, CBGB was the birth of punk started in 1974-1983, I started a punk band too late in 2001 when I somewhat sobered up, I learned you can bring back the past or the people the hard way, we did tear up New York for eight years,, BoMb & NO PLACE TO PISS, The pistols were actually begging the Ramones to pull them up from a window backstage in England, DeeDee pissed in Johnnys beer hhehee
.17 narrator says most were singing about peace and love while they show a clip of Roxy Music. Well, Roxy was singing about piece (of ass) and (inflatable) love (dolls)...so I guess, yeah...kinda....
George knows all about the NY punk scene, he just didn't take the bait because he's smart and doesn't want to lose Lydon by arguing punk history with him.
@@rubytuesday2564 Yes he's come through a troubled and difficult childhood and calls it how it is.........as you say a very principled man........too bad that the world is not full of such men........God bless him.

I have a lot of respect for John Lydon. Very bright and articulate. Funny, as well. And he is one of the few who will always tell you how he sees it, no matter what it is.
Ramones first record? 1974, enough said. goo goo gaga? You may want to listen to, "Today your love, tomorrow the world" on the Ramones first album, again. Dee Dee's songs were full of rage. The Sex Pistols & Malcolm Mc. had a road map, thanks to the Ramones.
@jonybeam Fair call. So who do you support in English politics ? I'm tired of English in Ireland. Brexit is great. You English want your country back from the Europeans. We Irish want our country back from you. Aren't you tired of hypocrisy ? Derek Warfield said it best: "So where is the flag of England, Stained red with Irish blood ? Go where brute force has triumped, And hypocrisy makes its lair In your question you'll find the answer It was or still is there". You people sing "God Save" to people who put serial killers to shame. Hypocrisy is just the realm of your politicians who bow to whatever bitch or fool or madman calls themselves King or Queen, at any given point in history.
@jonybeam There's only one version of God Save the Queen I ever liked. It's not the one that you call your national anthem. There's a better version. The version sung by a young lad with Irish parents. But has he wrapped himself in the Butcher's Apron, now ? I thought he was joking when he did it as a lad. Now he's serious ? Just another hypocrite ? Johnny Rotten ? John Lydon ? More like John Bull. Or John Bullshit. Before you take yours back, give us ours. You've only had it for eight hundred years. Brexit is great. England for the English. Or whatever it is. But first, Ireland for the Irish.
Trump isn’t for the working class and Brexit isn’t for the working class, you’re deluded. Lydon should know better, the younger version of him would never have given support to these billionaires duping working class people to enhance their own wealth. I love the guy, but he’s becoming confused with old age.
Just imagine if by some strange chance, Johnny was mentioned in the Queens honours list. There would not be howls of derision, or an outcry, that Mr Jonny Rotten, who once sang nasty things about our beloved majesty. I recon there would be a celebration, that the Uk is still a great nation, and even he no longer resides in his country of birth, we still have a sense of humour. Just image, him turning up at the investiture at the palace, and the Queen asking who he was. Oh, that bastard who had the audacity to wear a tee shirt with my face on it. It would make news around the World. Jonny all is forgiven.
I always feel edgy watching a Lydon interview. Always expect he could go off at any time. George is brilliant in that regard. Puts all his subjects at ease and asks intelligent, non-patronizing questions.
John Lydon is one of my personal heroes. When words come out of his mouth they tend to make a lot of common sense. I like people who make sense when they speak, they're easy to understand and generally likable because of it.
He is so clear about life. Don't lie…it hurts people. It is good to see that Johnny Lydon has continued to speak the truth as he sees it and expresses the original punk ethic well.
Either Strombo just knew what to say to keep it fluid or John was going easy on him - this is really a tame interview compared to some of the ones John Lydon has done in the past....
The troubles he spoke of were. Racist related here at home. Then he speaks of the shit that happened in Japan, well they haven't got the amount of blacks that we got.
I found a frog in the road today and he was very cold and scared.. He's now had a nice warm bath and he is sleeping in some leaves and paper towels in my apartment.. 🎅🌲🎅🎄🌕🌙🌙🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🏊🏊🌊⛄⛄
Alfie Gilder-Smith John has had something to say about Savile at many of his gigs over the years. I remember seeing him in Oxford and he had plenty to say about the establishment nonce, way before Savile died and the story became public knowledge. What do you expect John to do? Should he have killed Savile? He faced charges of slander and libel, yet he still shouted what he knew to the crowds that came to see him perform. Don’t try and make out like John wasn’t trying to do the right thing. He did so even at risk of being sued.
@@petermills542 he did do something, he said "i'd like to kill jimmy saville, he's up to all sorts of seediness we all know about but aren't allowed to talk about" what more can he do than say he's up to bad seedy shit? you know the people in the media can repress interviews. don't be so naive.

The interviewer is intelligent, and has done his homework on Rotten and the culture he hails from. I think that's why Rotten is not his usual cunted self.
Bankrupting him was a good way to keep him quiet and out of the public conscience. Found his way back though. John should be a politician (though he never will be) Then we'd get what we pay for.
