In 1966 the John Martin's department store held a Centenary Christmas Pageant in recognition of the store's 100th Anniversary year. The Christmas Pageant, developed by John Martin's Chairman Sir Edward Hayward, was first held in 1933. This extract of film shows behind the scenes shots, footage of Sir Hayward and South Australian Governor Sir Edric Bastyan and scenes of the Centenary Pageant.

I went every year as a child, every Adelaidein did! Mum worked at Johnnie's for years! And one year she was a Viking with long blonde wig on a float that was a Viking ship! She looked so beautiful, and it was on the telly later on! Loved those days!🤗

I still have my Centenary Bell from 1966,,,, all the staff were presented with one...

If she comes from Adelaide, she would have seen these parades. For a kid, this was all waited for. And the Royal Easter show, where they handed out " sample bags" full of goodies, loved it 🤗

So many politically incorrect references by todays standards! One of my primary school classmates rode one of the horses in the late 60’s. John Martin’s was the go to department store for South Aussies. There was also Harris Scarf’s - now regenerated!
