It sounds dumb, but I'm truly impressed by John's lack of filler ("um" "uh") use. I feel in an interview it's so easy to just be like "uh like um" but he's so so eloquent and intelligent.

This is late but right as I read this comment, I heard him say, "um" twice in like a minute lol. He definitely doesn't use fillers that much. For a good speaker like John, I'm pretty sure he uses "um" to not sound arrogant... like he knows the answer right as you ask a question.

@@outtanuttin Jedi aren't cocky. Jedi know they are in tune with the Force or else they wouldn't be much of a Jedi. Writing music feels like you've tapped into something deep inside of you and all around you, very much like the Force. When John wrote "Still Feel Like Your Man", he clearly had a moment like that. It was a comparison to explain how the song came along. It didn't come across as "look at how strong I am with the Force". Personally, I loved hearing this because it's inspiring to hear that musicians of his tenure still get that feeling.

i think JM is one of the most misunderstood artists/ "celebs" there is. he truly is such a compassionate, smart and genuine man. the media had a field day with him when he was in a confusing and vulnerable place & i think a lot of people leeched onto the surface bullshit perception of him. Ah and see my comment. Which isn't necessarily UNTRUE, it's just it's very funny how unconsciously he does it - like, I am a one woman man so I make that comment of course just because of background - but its so funny how he unconsciously gets 'womazing' because of just how he does it. I'm good with women - pretty good actually - because of looks but I have pretty good muscles and looks for a guy! I'm very genuinely nice to woman (which I'm proud of) but this is kind of like a "level above" attracting women to what he says. Which is kind of why I like his interviews lol because he shows me what to 'work on' for what women can like - sensitivity, mysteriousness, etc. which is just idk entertaining. That being said, don't try disrespecting woman as a start because that's a TERRIBLE start. it's a weird dynamic. What I mean to say is, this dude is super cool but I wouldn't necessarily do what he does for chicks. And it's okay. Cool ! ok bye!

I’ve never heard someone speak about themselves to such levels like I can until I start hearing Mayer’s interviews. To be able to just explain why you do things or why you think things, or speak honestly about what you’ve done or are doing. mmm, I dunno. I understand exactly what you're saying, and have the same sensation of recognizing myself and the way I speak and think in him, but there is a difference between self awareness, and arrogance. He not only understands himself, but thinks extremely highly of himself and his opinions, and also is aware he is speaking eloquently, and enjoys that about himself. And to a certain extent consciously presents that. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with loving yourself, in fact to the contrary I wish more people did, but I think that's what people are picking up on when they say he's arrogant, rather than his self awareness, or elegance of speech. There's a way of being self-aware, and self-loving, without coming across as arrogant, or self-important.

Seriously what a great interview. I'm sure it made up for not being able to attend the show. Great dialogue, you can just tell how intelligent you both are here.

What a lively, down-to-earth, in-depth interview. Leaving me with a big cheesy grin on my face, that seems to have stuck there, even while I am writing this. Love it.

every time I listen to him, I feel so blessed to have an artist like him. I mean it amazes me how people can be so eloquently intelligent and musically genius at the same time. Listening to how a song comes into existence always been a mind therapy for me . . . . ohh ya, I love the dog Hachi too,

I dig his descriptions of the creative process. The man is gifted. His understanding of the concept of a "hit", a polished hit, and the road to getting there is fascinating to me. I'm sorry, he's narcissistic, but he's genius.

I wanted so badly to see him in Dallas this past week but I didn't have the money for the tickets because if I'm going to see JM, I'm gonna get the full experience. Been a huge Mayer fan my entire life, know every word to all his songs, can play almost every one of his songs, He's brought so much good music into my life and He is so misunderstood. Thank you John for being the greatest musician and I hope to meet you one day!

17:10 "Saddest lyric I've ever written", then literally comes up two years later (2019) with "Pushing 40 in the friend-zone" "You don't think twice about / me and maybe you're right to doubt me" "The weight of my worries is too much to take on" "I guess I just feel like 'What happened to that?'" "I guess I just felt like giving up today" All of the above... in TWO songs.

I love how he describes the geometric visuals he gets playing guitar. It makes so much sense. Piano players learn linearly. Guitar players learn geometrically. It's just the nature of the instrument. I hope that some day I get to the level where the shapes connect to emotion and I can play intuitively with feeling like the masters.

I’ve said this time and again, JM is one of the best artists who can very much put feelings, thoughts, mindsets, frames of mind, into words and music. And when you hear it and listen, you get to say, “spot on!” He has such a great mind! I just love to listen to him talk about his craft, his passions! I just feel like in a trance listening to him. 🤍🤩

i dont know how anyone could hate this man.. Yeah hes had his moments as we all have, his were just on the big screen. Seems like an extremely down to earth dude who actually cares about the people around him, but is never too afraid to speak his mind! And not to mention one of the greatest guitarists of our generation... I could even go as far as saying almost like a Hendrix of our time.

Love John Mayer! I agree, Gravity is a BEAUTIFUL song. My favorite collaboration that he has done, is with Keith Urban. These two voices compliment each other so well as do their guitar skills. They can sing each others songs as if it's their own! I also love that their personalities compliment each other so well on stage as well, not to mention they are both very easy on the eye! A perfect duo because they are both so immensely talented!!! My favorite will always be John's bluesier tunes.

I don't know if you'll read this John Mayer but I respect where you're at.. your pop music you came out didn't affect me as I'm more of a blues-rock guy but when I first saw you perform and blues numbers I was totally impressed and still am.. Most young men's egos will hurt them without the fame and fortune that you ran into so good job on getting on the other side of it..
