He's earned it many times over. JM and Derek Trucks have summited the heights of guitar god on the trail out of blues/pop. There are other routes though, like the hard rock wizardry of Steve Vai and Guthrie Govan, the compositional complexity of Tosin Abasi of Animals as Leaders and Yvette Young of Covet, ... It's a great time for guitar greatness! ♥️🤗🎸🔥
How the hell around 0:45 is he plucking those high strings while kachugging on the other strings?!! Please tell me there is another guitarist outside the video frame. Incredible. Update: I've found a Tomo Fujita video where he teaches the kachugging, but no high chiming.
@@skierpage those were double stops in key of F# major. he does the triplets (kachugging) while muting the strings and adds the double stops randomly between the tempo
@@grecco4037 your "... and adds the double stops" reminds me of the guru teaching levitation: 1. Lift one foot. 2. Lift the other foot. 2a No, why did you put your first foot back on the ground?! Many-levels-beyond skills 🤪
Jeremy Mazuca please fill me in on who he stole these licks from. Having influences and incorporating some of their playing and licks into your own is just fine. I don't think it would be possible for anyone not be a "lick stealer" in one way or another
Anything this handsome talented man does is the best version ever... I listen to him daily, love all his music including his blues and his Dead & Co. I do have my favorite concert versions I watch over and over and some are older ones, his Good Love Is On The Way and Vultures is Live in LA version. He does not have any bad versions!!
Jesus, just when I tought I've seen everything from this man, he keeps coming with awesome stuff. His talent and inspiration are truly endless. That scratch thing on the guitar at the begining was fuckin awesome
Single coils. Thank the Gods that John is here to punch the tones that modern music seems to push aside. Everything has to be fat humbucker dirty tone. Definition and the silence in between is every bit as key to quality tone/music, as the notes and hand manipulation performed by a master.
This intro is bananas🍌🍌🍌Transported JM to a whole 'nother stratosphere of guitaring. He wasn't there. It was his hologram beamed in. Hail to the King ❣❣👑
I love how he groove right into the song after the intro. It’s like he’s unleashing the soul behind this songs groove, just legendary Mayer doing legendary things. 🤘🏼
One can definitely see the growth and maturity of his playing skills since the 2010 version of this song was recorded. It helps to be playing with the best rhythm section in the world too.
So what you're telling me John, while I'm hearing the most dope version of Vultures you're gonna throw Rage against the Machine in there? Get out of town 😂
@@yourmomshouse6984 it’s in f Look up srvs cold shot and learn that and then come back to this. Also if your not playing a high headroom amp it’s not going to pick up the nuances in the attack like a D style amp will.
imagine how crazy it must be to be john mayer. I mean you're born pretty well. I admire him because he pushed himself, and his parents didn't really help him out. I had the struggle, but the fact that he lived through all this. I bet he is very much satisfied with his life at this point.
no solo lo que hace es dificil no solo suena a john mayer no solo sorprende con sus tecnicas sino que emociona te pone a disfrutar, no es como otros virtuosos que no emocionan solo tocan rapido y hacen locuras pero no conmueven nada
Steve Jordan and him swapped instruments in a few of his older shows live. He’s a decent percussion player, definitely due to his great sense of rhythm on the guitar. What’s more impressive is his ability to keep in time with a Steve Jordan playing bar chords lol.
I love this version of ‘Vultures’ but my favorite will always be his rendition from Live at Pinkpop 2010. That performance will go down as a top 5 John Mayer performance of all time for me. You SRV fans out there will agree.
Had a really cool jam intro to vultures in Milwaukee cuz it wasn’t on the setlist and he spontaneously decided to play it off of a fan’s recommendation so he was stalking for the band to switch out instruments
Some of us, we're hardly ever here The rest of us, we're born to disappear How do I stop myself from Being just a number How will I hold my head To keep from going under Down to the wire I wanted water but I'll walk through the fire If this is what it takes To take me even higher Then I'll come through like I do When the world keeps Testing me, testing me, testing me How did they find me here? What do they want from me? All of these vultures hiding Right outside my door I hear them whisperin' They're tryin' to ride it out They've never gone this long Without a kill before Down to the wire I wanted water but I'll walk through the fire If this is what it takes To take me even higher Then I'll come through like I do When the world keeps Testing me, testing me, testing me Wheels up I got to leave this evening Can't seem to shake these vultures Off of my trail Power made by power being taken So I keep on running To protect my situation Down to the wire I wanted water but I'll walk through the fire If this is what it takes To take me even higher Then I'll come through like I do When the world keeps Testing me, testing me Whatcha gonna do about it? Whatcha gonna do about it? Whatcha gonna do about it? Don't give up, give up Don't give up, give up, give up Don't give up, give up Don't give up, give up, give up
Yes, he said something like he always wanted a little RATM in his music! Then he told the crowd to come back tomorrow night and watch him try to replicate it but without the magic lol
