How fun, just keep swimming, keep playing playfully, rock on for the joy in your heart and soul that feels so satisfying in those moments that move you into that space of clarity and freedom and fun. Lots of love and encouraging you forward to find your own inner greatness that you know you are.
I love how his playing sounds like someone having a passionate conversation; the pauses, the runs, the silences, the dynamics, the sustained notes.. ahhhhh
This is amazing that John, being a legendary musician, enjoys simply jamming with the public, openly sharing his thoughts, little fuckups and musical discoveries. It inspires me and returns my belief that a true artist always stays creative and puts simply enjoying the craft first.
Actually, that’s what I call the special musician moments. Where you know you want to jump out and try to physically play (what you hear in your mind) beforehand. And, not only do you do what you want, but you far exceed your expectations in the end. And, that is really a nice surprise for yourself. Big smile - move on - and never forget. It doesn’t really happen that often. There must be a word for it. I just know it’s really a special kind of feeling inside after it happens.
@@bctwitty I like "special musician moments". What you're describing is a core aspect of impov and ear training. Train the brain to play what the mind comes up with, thats the hallmark of any good musician. Lots of people can feel/think music like john, there are also lots of people who "play the guitar" better than john. However the shaded area on that venn diagram is extremely limited, since it represents people who have a true gift for music AND the discipline to hone their craft from childhood into adulthood.
There really aren't as many accessible celebrities than John Mayer. To my knowledge, Beyonce isn't out there doing voice lessons. Absolutely love his transparency into his process. Can you imagine if SRV did these videos??
I wish he would make an all instrumental album like this. No singing, just blues backing (with live musicians...and a live audience) and John playing along.
@@brandonboatner9952 meh, I'm not at all a Bonamassa fan. Sure, technically he's solid but he has no emotion behind those notes. Kinda like Satriani and Malmsteen for me. Sure they can shred but their sounds come across, to me, like robots.
Oh man, what a beautiful talent and amazing pass time to be able to throw on a random song and play an instrument to it so flawlessly. Musicians have mad skills!
Everyone go to spotify ..Jam to a blues song that you never herd in diffrent keys ,,, but a raw video ...with no editing no special camara just your phone , stream live and start Jamming to a random song and see how it goes....call it the #johnmayerchallenge
This is already how I practice haha. Always going on Facebook live and just jamming and making mistakes constantly but also creating some amazing licks on the spot and enjoying every minute of it. Raw, unedited artistic expression.
I come back to this regularly. John introduced me to the joy of blues guitar to an extent that I never really thought possible. I could , and invariably do actually, listen to him do this for hours on end. And then I go off and look up music by names he mentions. His love for the guitar , his talent and the sound he produces has been influential in what and the way I listen to all music now.
John thank u ..i am just. Getting into scales and playing to tracks..blues and jazz..and having a lot of fun..learning to apply timing and technique..this is so helpful..i am 69 ..music and guitar in my family my dad a rhythm guitar player and WW II vet( my son as well as I vets) played his whole life up to a couple days before his passing at 91...i played from 9 to 16 ..let it go but picked it back up with lessons every two weeks at 66..you are an inspirational and can t thank you enough for sharing your experience and knowledge...i was a fan...you made me a huge fan ❤🇺🇸
Love this. You get to realize he has the same attitude as any of us guitar players when we're struggling to play along to a backing track. Just a regular dude with incredible talent, awesome.
@@az0119nah those faces are there for a reason ,and tbh they are NEEDED 😂can’t blame him ,if I played like that, I think it would be impossible to keep a straight face ,also I wouldn’t want a version of john mayer who doesn’t make those faces it would be boring
I also, every time I pick the guitar up want to be surprised. Its so fun to see an accomplished person as John is get excited like a child when playing the guitar. This is just as entertaining as listening to his albums. Thanks Mr. Mayer
I play with Jam tracks all the time. There is nothing better for learning and applying scales. Its amazing how all that knuckle headed scale you do work comes together when you see how everything you practiced sounds right!
"Playing that I have done in my life is because it feels really good. I'm starting to get to where it's supposed to sound really good." This is the kind of candid behaviour that is heartwarming. More so, because it is relatable.
This is the cool thing about guitar, or any instrument for that matter. The dude may be famous, but he is just a dude jamming on his guitar at home. Makes mistakes and has things he is also trying to learn, getting better every day. This is more inspiring to me than watching someone play something perfectly. 🤘
Awesome man. something i’ve been doing since the 1970s. My dog digs it anyway. Now i can jam with John Mayer jamming with a blues track. BTW swamp blues is a real thing. The master Slim Harpo!!
@@chrishalliwellmusic It is his comment and you have to come along and hit him with "loser" why? I bet if I met you in person you would be a nice guy so why go negative man. I don't get it why do we roast people in the comment sections? Now there are some comments that need to be put in check but I don't think this is one of those comments. I wish guitar players would help other guitar players be the best that they can be and not troll people on guitar videos. I know it will never happen but I can hope. Rock on Chris
I just found this - I noodle on guitar but have played drums for since I was 12 - I'm 5x12 yr old now - this is great to play behind a soloist that has lots of ideas - thanks - keep em coming.
This boy born with a plectrum and a guitar as an extension of his body (like the wings of a bird) transports me to another world. The best of all is that he himself is surprised at the wonderful sounds he achieves, what a perfectionist he is. I love him
Do you guys realize what you're watching?! This is a master class holy shit! When he did the swamp blues track it blew me away to see him adapt the idea of what he thought swamp blues was. He just coined swamp blues without even knowing it. Wow! One of the best musicians if our time hands down. Unreal.
I love the interview with Sonny Boy Williams when he talks about Jump Blues.🎸👍👏🙏✌️😎. Eleven is a cool number when it is on your amp volume knob. 😂 It goes to 11 !!!
Such a great video! Thanks Mr. Mayer. I just want to be a better musician and this was an eye opener!!! Thanks for the influence and examples....more please sir!!!
*Is it bad that I could listen to him play that guitar forever??...* He is so talented/gifted that *he manages to make it sound so beautiful and yet somehow, still so graceful with the strings, all while playin it like it's the last time he'll ever get to play it.....* Man, it just never gets old to me *and then when you add to it that voice of his* 😌 *I'm so beyond relaxed and in the best place of tranquility that it starts to feel like Gravity really heard him* when he said 🎶 *"Gravity, stay the hell away from me"* 🎶 *Maybe it's because I'm in my hanging hammock chair, but I really feel Gravity may just cease to exist as long as he keeps playin that guitar like that!* 😌
