Some people are obnoxious and lazy. They're uneducated; their opinion means NUT'IN! Criticism comes cheap. This was a great performance, whether he was inebriated or straight. He gives the best live performances I've ever experienced. He's also rich in human depth and perception -- and gets too little appreciation for his accomplishments. He can be crude on the exterior, but John is a gifted teddy bear with a heart to change the world for the better. No matter how much older we ALL get, JM's music AND his performances are a gift to the world.
This performance was horrible. He should have quit 20 years before this. Go out on top or else be remembered for when you go out too late. Sad. The magic is long gone and he won't admit it. He''ll always be remembered for his poor, last few shows.
April, I agree with John's talent for writing and performing music but please, leave worlds like "human dept" or "perception" out of it. The man has no wisdom. Can't keep a lasting marriage, destroy his own body and is not that well rounded in world events to say certain things. No pedestal for John here. Sorry.
I think John might just have been enjoying the backstage hospitality for a while before he came on.......And Billy looked a bit concerned at times too.
Na, I'll tell ya what, as a player myself, I know what it's like to know the words, and melody, but still I can't play it. And that's the case here. they know it, but can't seem to nail the beat. but they get better as they get towards the end... lol It's not John. He was on it the whole time. But I feel ya.
yaimavol billy married Christie and divorced as I'm sure hou know but John never dated Christie. He married snd divorced a super model himself that people keep confusing with Christie. He married Elaine Irwin who was in a few videos like "get a leg up" Their daughter Teddy Jo is on one of those real life housewifes reality shows. 🤮😉
I totally disagree with the many people commenting that the performance was "all messed up". ... From what I can hear, there were a lot of elements (ie. regular musicians belonging to JM) missing from the opening sequence, that would have normally filled-out the song. ... Also, it seems that JM might have missed his cue, making the rather quiet opening sequence even longer. As the sequence was so low key, JM clearly went into a 'talkative' delivery for the opening lines... There's no way he could sing them as he usually does.
The band kept playing as in Intro which obviously threw John off. You can see he laughingly asks Billy if it's okay if he starts singing. John Mellencamp is incredible, but this clearly wasn't his arrangement of his song.
Artist are the most narcissistic bunch. You have a short window of being fresh and great and then you become a reaction video. I feel they live in a world of their own. Hence so many award shows for themselves. I grew up on 50th and 10th ave in Hells Kitchen, 2 blocks from broadway and Times Square.
Current Jericho. John thanks. In my memory in the OT they just had to march around it 7 times. What in the hell has the world been doing? Mellencamp continues his slide downhill. Sad. I have always been his biggest fan, but more and more he seems to care less and less about his fans. This is a phoned-in performance.
Why do you say that? I just think his voice is shot from all the smoking. He sounded one notch above a karaoke singer. I honestly don't know how he will complete a full tour. Will find out later this month.
