Man, I miss MTV. Back when they used to play videos like this. Life was so good back then. I wish I knew then what I know now. I would have treasured every second.
1984 was the BEST absolutely! Nothing beat those 80’s girls! Arcades, music, tv, movies... even the weed was better... 14 in 84... couldn’t have gotten any better!
@@randymcmullen538 TRUER WORDS CAN'T BE SAID! I graduated from High School in June of 1984. I had FUN! The music was on point and I was living my best life! The 80s rocked! The BEST MUSIC EVER!
Still my favorite Mellencamp song! And the opening "Some people ain't no damn good....can't trust 'em , you can't love 'em" is a great lesson about life
my sentiments exactly most people are worthless shit not worth your time and thoughts let alone your financial consideration. That is why if I owned a company I would never hire 99.9% of this worthless shit these companies employ as managers and workers.
It’s funny that the few people that say they don’t like 80’s music are always the ones you catch singing along and tapping their feet... resistance is futile... 80’s MUSIC WILL ALWAYS ROCK!
About 2 weeks ago around Fort Worth Texas a gentleman gave me a few dollars when I was standing on the corner and he looked a whole lot like John Cougar Mellencamp if it was him I would like to say I'm very honored and even if it wasn't him I'm still very honored that the gentleman took the time to care about me. Thank you so much
One thing was for certain! Forty years ago after this song was released and hit the charts, John Mellecamp's legacy was not "Crumblin Down". JCM was and still is truly a rock legend.
Anyone who doesn't recognize this for the greatness that it is does not know great 80's music! I've seen him 6 times live, and he never fails to deliver. He was the very first to go out and interact with his crowd, Garth Brooks took a cue from him. JCM's show never ever failed to deliver, and his music gives comfort and joy to people who ever heard him perform, no matter what year it is.
You're right on with that! I saw JCM live a multitude of times because 1. his music rocked the town, 2. no matter how large the venue you still felt like he performed just for you, 3. he lived his values and didn't sell out to the corporate machine.
I remember back in the early 80's they formed a committee headed by Al Gore to try to ban the song Hurts So Good because it was too "suggestive" to be played on the radio.
Oh yes,I kn it 🙂 really enjoy him. The only thing if your not up close to the stage when you go see him ,then you want see him for all the people bc he is so short 😀
@@anonymoushuman8344 Funny how so many get Trump mixed up with Biden. Trump had this country rolling and everyone, even those who hate him, know that. Compared that to the current state of the nation. We're in a shambles under Biden.
He's like the "sleeper" of music artists from his time. His lyrics are so common place, they stick in your head when the situation arises. I've always liked him, but love his music even more now.
Penny loafers, my 46 year old son at age 11...did his hair for a while, and wore Penny loafers so he could look like Mr. Mellencamp! And my Sun was/is a drummer! I dig this tune! I miss dancing, shaking ass and sliding in shuffle! Much ❤ ALL...
The guy has some steps for sure... and what about "Ah its the 80s.... Get the million dollar talent up on a 3 story ladder, have 'im slide down it on the backside!" lol
I will never forget these early years, MTV Eddy Grant, Tom Petty Stray Cats sexy and 17 and that silly song 99 Red Balloons good lord that was the good old days thank goodness for RU-vid I can go back anytime I want to thank you Jesus most
I loved MTV, used to wake up turn it on and volume all the way up getting ready for school! Those were the days you didn't have to worry about anything, no cell phones, no bullshit!
All I can say is MTV was the, " it" of the early 80's! In college we would watch these video's all night. Now, I Don't turn it on. But this song rocked the air waves of FM Radio!
My favorite Mellencamp song! It’s amazing how much the lyrics, especially in the first verse, resonate with what I’ve experienced in my own life-I didn’t know what most of it meant when I was little and first heard the song. I just loved and still love the attitude. Classic!
This tune is a testament to the inner bulldoggedness of The Great singer Artist named John Mellencamp who despite B.S. obstacles tore forward to become one of the most Outstandin' Stage performers N Music writers of all time. This Artist was backed by One of the Greatest Kickass Support Bands in the 80's and early 90's that out surpassed those of other music artist
It's really hard to dance and look tough... But he did as well as one could. And he didn't even rack himself on that parking meter... and walked away from those splits. That's talent! :)
If you came of age in the 70's, John was one of the people who truly kept the flame of rock alive. Still sounds fantastic. Personally I would throw much of 80's rock away along with the pretensions of the era. Mellencamp had none of that. One great record after another, the way it's supposed to be done.
80s rock was THE BEST. Don't know what planet you're living on......And I'm NOT taking anything away for John Cougar but if you weren't down with bands like Rush, Floyd, Motley Crue,Neil Young,Zep etc. I got nothing for ya ! ! ! You're a musical Dope...........
I met John 28 years ago this summer. (1988) I was working the Peoria, IL Civic Center & went down to get my ID. The door opened & it was John looking for the entry to the arena. Shook his hand. He was so nice & polite. BTW, he did a great performance that night :)
as a child of the 80's, this song came through me this morning as i was releasing a lot of old pain. definitely helped return me to my place of empowerment.
His moves maybe... but not the voice... the Cougar was in a class by himself, he took 80’s style music and lyrics, added some Cougar to the mix and made it his own... a class act all the way thru the decade!
Bringing back those great memories.........Going to see him in Sugarland with my best friend from high school. Cougar is what played in her car when we cruised the streets.
Gosh this music is still so darn good!! John you really are so light on your feet, what great moves!!Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with us all!! Rock on!!
When you consider his songs and videos, plus his painting. He is one of the greatest artists of all time. He is cocky and humble all at the same time. Try that on some time. No one can.
The 80 were a great time I am glad that I was born in the 70 so I could injoy the 80 I a hell of time in the 80 and to grow up with this kind of music👍
My Grandmother gave me this record when i was young. i grew up in a fighting Area. i never wanted to fight, but with everyone being a tough guy fighting everyday. i said to myself if people wanna fight. im going to hurt them so bad they'll never wanna fight again. when my grandma heard i was beating everyone up she sent me home with this record, and i would listen to it for hours on end
It was a treat seeing him live. Especially living in Indiana, he filled MSA to the rafters more than a few times. He used to the do ladder trick in concert. Damn, we were all young back then.
This is my most favorite song of JM, I'll never forget watching him dance n sing at his concert in the early 90's, a once in a lifetime experience for me, he's one of my favorite rock musicians*
