Yes, we did.... I feel bad for the kids today because they'll have nothing like this to consider "their own" from growing up and being young. As much as I'm happy when I see half of the concert venue filled with young people under 30 when I watch the Boss, Cougar, U2, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Madona, Guns N' Roses, Billy Idol, Nine Inch Nails, or the immortal Stones, I am also sad thinking how in 30 years there will be no legendary artists like this left alive for the new generations to see. This is the last train that keeps getting smaller and smaller every day. As of 2024, oficially more than half od the artists I have in my record collection/Ipod playing lists are dead! I'll never be able to see David Bowie, Prince, George Michael, Tom Petty and many others live in concert again. And neither will anyone else. So let's enjoy while it still lasts and lets appreciate what we have left. Please go to every possible concert you can because very soon that artist will no longer be there and unfortunately nothing of substance is coming to replace them.
@@lloydmoss217 I did, no stone unturned except for hard drugs, never got into those, but I boozed it up pretty hard!! Been playing at guitar for a long time. I’m 51 and about 3 years ago me and some other guys around my age started a cover band and we play at bars and parties. We get a good response playing these old junkers and we bring it to younger and younger crowds it seems like every time we play. I sing “Pink Houses” and it never fails. Moral to my ramblings, it’s as good as we make it and it’s never too late, get out realize how good you’ve got it right now because you’re still here, you’re not gone yet!! Party on until your party is over hoss!!
There's nothing more heartwarming than two grey wolves, successful at their own right,to join on the same stage, just to have a good time...scenes like this reminds me that good music is still around...and why we love rock so much.Never say die,mr.Springsteen and mr.Mellencamp.We need you around!
@@hoppes9658 These two men, something a punk like YOU knows nothing about being, have done more to stand up for working people and veterans like me than most anyone in entertainment.
Wow great combo. No auto tune no slick show. Just rock and roll. Like 40 years ago. Great musicians. I'm old enough to know live aid farm aid shows. Best music ever ❤
His music helped me out through the worst times in the early years an I'm still listening to these awesome song's in 2024 an it's awesome to see the boss on stage with him
They don't have artists like this anymore ,that truly inspire and convey the truth honestly in a way that connects us all if we really listen and let it in~
Younger people disagree and it doesn’t make their perspective less valid than yours. Music isn’t a competition between generations. Allow yourself to let all of it in and you might realize some newer music connects with you as well. It doesn’t all have to be the same.
@@nelsonwilbury6162 music like art connects with each person differently where disagree with you is since Jeff Buckley tragically passed there has not been another true musician with anything real to say about ...anything really I enjoy rock I love acdc ,rob zombie heavy rock in general especially in the gym but I also love real and true artistry - and I've looked and it ain't there -
When this song came out I was renting a suite in a big old house and the guy renting above me used to sit outside on the roof and blast this song into the neighbourhood over and over and over again.😊
I’m old enough to remember when John Cougar first came out and the critics tore him up as a wannabe Springsteen lol. This is my favorite Mellencamp song.
I have a old local radio sponsored rock n roll music paper from the Fall of 1976 that showed him being marketed as Johnny Cougar . I think he probably hated that too.
There was a National Lampoon Magazine cover that was a cartoon of a classroom with Mellencamp copying off Springsteen’s work and Springsteen copying Dylan’s work.
Oh my goodness! Bruce joining John Mellencamp for one of the best songs I've ever heard. I love the irony of Bruce (Born In The USA) and John with Pink Houses, 2 songs politicians wanted to use for campaigns in the 80's, they were just too stupid to understand the irony in each of the songs. Damn that was wonderful, makes me wish I was in Jersey, but Bruce will be here in San Diego very soon. Love to you both, 2 epic songwriters! 🤟 #wearenotworthy
Not so fast, Mr. OMG. That's a tired old narrative that's pretty disingenuous. The campaign staffs knew exactly what the songs were attempting to convey. They simply (and successfully) appropriated the music for a different view of America. The audience knew this as well. In fact, most of the concert-going public who stood in line for Springsteen and Mellencamp tickets then went and stood in line at the polls and voted for Ronald Reagan. Moreover, I saw a David Bowie interview from 1999 where he's excited about the interactive possibilities of the new cyberworld unfolding, and he cites the artist Marcel Duchamp: "The piece of art is not finished until the audience comes and adds their own interpretation."
@@johnconway9882 I appreciate the response and the thought that went into it. I agree, people knew better, but the campaign didn't. That's what makes it humorous. Just because it happened 40 years ago doesn't now relegate it to "a tired old narrative." And it's a separate issue whether fans of the songs voted for Reagan or not. Of course many did. Love the Bowie quote though.
Saw Mellencamp about 18yrs ago, Donovan opened. One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen & have been to many. Donovan had us in a 60’s psychedelic trance, John had everyone in the huge stadium up, dancing & singing along 👏 👏 ❤❤❤
I’m 64 and had the best music of all times!! My son is 33 he was about 17 when my music was playing and I’d ask what song was on and he knew every song never missed a beat!! Him and his friends listen to are era of music!! As there main core. Are music will go on forever ❤️😎
My first concert of John was at The Gorge in George, Washington in 1997 and I've now seen him 6x. I was raised in the 70's and 80's so his music is home to me. 💗
Both of my absolute musical influences! To see them onstage together gives me so many “feels”… You can tell they have a comradamy(?) and respect for each other.
Been a Springsteen fan since Greetings From Asbury Park and The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle....also a Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes fan. If you like old Springsteen... find SSJ album "I Don't Want to Go Home" or "Hearts of Stone"
Mellencamp is a legend….used to love him, about 10 CDs strong….but I’m over the new generation lectures with Springsteen……the pills that kill….is still a very true statement. Love you, old JCM!
Attended his concert last night and it was beyond wonderful. The crowd was completely engaged, Mr. Mellencamp was 100% on fire. Damn, it was such a great night.
Two of the very finest writers of their generation on the American dream and what it means to be an American. If I ruled the world, their lyrics would be required reading in high school. Thank God we have their songs, not just to sing but to think about their meaning as well.
Two all-time greats, now this is music, not the crap they call music today! real talent here, add Bob Seger this group of talent and I would die a happy man!! lol
Great pairing on a song that never gets stale. Who could have foreseen, when I saw Cougar/Mellencamp opening for Heart in 1982, that both would be touring in 2024? Or that I would still go to a rock concert at age 65?
1988 or so, John played Irvine Meadows here is So Cal, during the encore John brings out Bruce and they sing Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" what an experience!
This is truly beautiful 2 legends stand before us singing their heart out and it is amazing. The only thing that’s missing is Clarence Clements may he rest in peace and he is smiling down on y’all so proud.❤
I was 14 working at Sky Blue Studio in Sonoma California. John came through he was driving an old Chevy pickup truck with Indiana plates. His equipment was wrapped in old carpets and packing mats. We were helping him load out. John said he was getting no promotion as John Mellencamp and was thinking of changing his name to Cougar. Chris Hackney told him to do what ever he thought he needed to do to help his career. Bruce Springsteen showed up later-fall 1974. Neither one of them had a hit. Mellencamp is nicer to be around. They both became somebody.
I remember back in ‘85 JM looking 30 years into the future laughing about him and Bruce being on the “together again tour” or something like that… nailed it!
Saw Bruce in ‘85 in Melbourne and 25 times since including last year in Amsterdam. And lucky enough to have seen John Cougar Mellencamp several times in the ‘80’s. Would have been great to catch more duos between them ❤
I was sitting in a doctors office once in Nashville and this man came from the back to the check out window and I thought to myself, he looks so much like John Mellencamp. Turns out, it was John's brother! 😂
I remember when they were like the Beatles or the Stones- you had to pick one or the other. I had a case of Mellencamp cassettes I bought at a police auction downtown.
