Important parts of the match are missing in these highlights! They do not show how Millman got the break back in second set and how he got ahead 5-1 in fourth set.

You can see how much Federer is sweating only three games in. Also, the noise his last forehand error makes is truly haunting.
@missourimanful
@missourimanful 4 года назад
@theboss - To me that last forehand error was deliberate. Fed was completely worn out. It was very hot and humid there. He later said how he literally couldn’t wait for the match to end. First time in Fed’s illustrious career have I ever see him quit fighting in a match. Not bad considering he has played in over 1300 matches, and counting.

Since that epic loss to Novak in 2011 I'm willing to see Federer winning the US OPEN. For some reason I always felt he played some special tennis there, like epic wins against Agassi and Hewitt, and wearing the all-black clothes. Besides, its my favourite grand slam alongside AO. Unfortunately he has never played his best again since that tragic loss (2011). I remember how pissed I got in 2015 with all the chances that he just let Go in the final. Come on Roger, Win one more us OPEN !!

@charlietong678

@Ferdous Alam Hard to say if conditions alone explain his loss. By that logic, Fed should still be winning Barclays/Nitto, where conditions are fast and balls bounce pretty low.
@charlietong678
@charlietong678 4 года назад
GTS that’s true. Which is not shaming Fed at all. Fed came from a different era yet is still able to compete at his age. It’s like an iPhone 6 that’s somehow as good as an iphoneX. Not an ideal analogy, but what I’m trying to say is that not dominating isn’t going to change what he’s achieved or diminish his triumphs.

You can see Federer wasn't even fist pumping at 6:47 when he avoided losing the set. Never saw him so drenched before. Millman was great but Federer fell victim to the conditions.

It didn't seem to be a upset at first. Also, Roger was moving a bit slow than usual. Millman showed up confidence after that Second Set and just Blasted like anything. I was so sad after this loss. I actually woke up that morning to this loss. US Open should go very well in 2019 for Fed and we wish him Good Luck For that. Let's Go Roger. 21 is somewhere near your hands. Let's get that first. Watching this gave me absolutely no idea what Millman did differently to win the second set. It’s all gravy for Federer in this video, and then all of a sudden, how does Millman wind up at set point at 5-6?! As a viewer, this is perplexing and unsatisfying to watch because it clearly doesn’t make sense based on what information you already have from the footage they chose. The highlights narrative didn’t work. Same for that tiebreak, should have been at least one or two surprises to make you understand why Federer could be losing 5-1 in the first place. But yeah, how the heck did he lose that match? He’s playing clearly way better than Millman in those first two sets. Where he’s placing the ball with length on anything, didn’t look troubling at all because Millman had shots that were not really hurting Federer too much.
@lukezz493
@lukezz493 5 лет назад
I think there had been two main factors: Millman played smoothly without any apparent pressure, as he had nothing to lose (surely the boost of confidence in the second set helped too). The second and most important factor is the humidity. You can see that Fed was already sweating in the 3 game of the first set. He himself said it was one of the most humid evenings he ever played at. This could also explain why he looks a bit slower than usual, because with that humidity you feel heavy, sweaty and all-around bad. Obviously all this applies to Millman too, but Roger is 37, and that has a major impact.
@Kelvin-ed6ce
@Kelvin-ed6ce 4 года назад
if that's humid imagine coming to Southeast Asia to play. That explains why southeast asia doesn't produce many good players because who can train in that humidity? I know because I live there.

Don't forgot Roger Federer just turned 37 years of age against John Millman 28 years of age. In circumstances like this it is going to show. Nomatter how hard you train. The body just can not heal as quickly as it used to be. Roger was playing many dropshots avoiding rally's. But of course all the credits to Millman. He was playing the game of his live. Great video! Keep them coming.

Roger could have won this match in straights. If he only took that 5-4 game in the second set and one of the set points in the third set tiebreak, he could have got it. In the important moments he was weak in this match, and only 3 points were important to take the match. I believe Roger had set point at 5-4 too didn't he?
