If you take away your emotional response to it, then this is simply a case of a wife asking her husband not to tell others something specific and him disrespecting that request directly. Further, he did it in such a way that others would defend his action as acceptable - which is another layer of disrespect. At the end of the day, fans who laugh at his jokes aren't the most valuable part of his life. The people closest to him should be. He should value their desires enough not to betray them for a few chuckles.
