Please please play the bass line from in the presence of enemies. I love it so much, watching him play but rarely does the camera focus on him for any length of time. What an oversight!
@XanaduMyHome this is why you will never be as good as Myung. Myung has ninja focus and outrageous dedication to his instrument and musical craft, mostly attributable to his motivated and endless attention span. Put simply: the shorter your attention span, the less likely you are able to become familiar with the fret-board in its entirety.
This was back when he was still endorsing Tung basses. It's a pity that this is the ONLY instructional video from him (circa 1998). Granted nothing has changed in the structure of notes, modes, keys, and so on in music, but it'd be awesome to see more advancements of his technique. Maybe have Mangini as a guest to provide great patterns for JMX to follow.
he is right, if you do all of this once everyday until you can do it as good as him, you will get very good at bass even though it is very slow. I have to get a six string first before i can do it
Getting the 'boring' stuff out of the way is part of playing music. Challenge yourself. Go a step further. Go where you haven't gone before. Do it again.
Well, you cant be this good with just your majors and minors. When you get this down I guess you can play anything, anytime, anywhere. Beeing a lazy ass myself I will be happy with half of this knowledge.
