John Oliver is offended by compliments. Insult him and he laughs, praise him and he argues with you.

He is an investigative comedian.

Smart, funny and humble. I can´t love him more!

It's a problem when the best journalists are the comedians.

Just love this guy and how humble he is. He can call himself a comedian, but in fact he is more of a journalist than a lot of real journalists are. And he probably changed more stuff to the better in a very short period of time, than big name newspapers, if we are honest here. I think his show is maybe one of the most important in television, because he became a voice for those people, that no one cares about. And he calls out stuff that is super important, like all these fragile bridges in the US.

Such a gem of a man. So glad the universe brought him together with Jon Stewart.

Knowing about the perversions and sexual abuse by Charlie, it’s so creepy watching them talk about sex so casually with him.

He is a journalist in the same way as any other news anchor is. He may not do all the legwork, but he does tell the news, and is the person the audience puts their trust in. He may intersperse jokes in what he's saying, but there's still a solid foundation of truth and fact-checking there. Arguably even more so than John Stewart, who added jokes a bit more frequently and obviously. Because he chooses to ignore the label, doesn't mean he hasn't been given it regardless. With that comes responsibility, which is why it makes him uncomfortable to be labelled as a journalist.

John Oliver, i believe in you. I think you are making a serious impact. By rallying the public. By showing someone like me who can't stomach regular news, whats really going on. Making it easy to understand and letting me and probably thousands of others fight back.

What you do with comedy goes hand in hand with journalism, John William. It's like Harry Anderson saying he's not an actor even though Reinhold Weege thought differently. Or Trevor Horn saying he's not a good singer when I and an elite group of Buggles fans beg to differ. The point is through the teachings of Jon Stewart back when you were on The Daily Show, you were given a gift to treat comedy with a journalistic approach. Yeah, you're not qualified to really be a journalist but you have the heart of one.

I came here for a full dose of crazy in the comments and I was not disappointed.

well when a comedian can explain complex and important issues in an accessible and funny way, and can do so better than nearly every TV journalist, then who needs TV journalists? maybe we need more comedians to host our news shows.

John Oliver seemed to not want to take responsibility for what he indeed caused, so instead of saying he had an impact he chose to render the time his audience spent on watching his pieces useless, the bail one in particular, by saying it was "already in the process of changing". He keeps in his mind a nice phrase a frindly uncle once said: "With great power comes great responsability". He denies his power so that he can't be held accountable, but denying something doesn't make it false.

John Oliver does a thing. The thing he does is good and we need more people like him. His writers are lazy as fuck though, I can't find myself watching entire episodes and I couldn't figure out why. That's because all of his jokes are so fucking formulaic it's insane. It's just like family guy. Talk about serious thing and shed light, then compare it to wacky nonsense, add exclamation and volume when comparing it to wacky random thing. Rinse and repeat.
