This is Kacee's first time watching reaction to the movie John Q (2002)". A man whose nine-year-old son is in desperate need of a life-saving transplant. When he discovers that his medical insurance won't cover the costs of the surgery and alternative government aid is unavailable, John Q. Archibald (Denzel Washington) takes a hospital emergency room hostage in a last-ditch attempt to save his child.

First time I watched this I was 17-18 years old in my high school Psychology class when we were going over moral dilemmas. The whole "doing something bad to do something good" point. Now that I'm older, it's scary how the healthcare part of the story is still relevant after all this time.
@nikkof5384
@nikkof5384 9 месяцев назад
When I was younger I looked at the moral dilemma as ultimately he did close to no harm, but I understood he broke the law and was punished. Now my perspective is, multiple companies/institutions commit fraud, malpractice, negligence, manslaughter, and conspiracy in this movie, if they were people they would be in jail. Why aren’t they even serving a single repercussion? Hell if you need someone to charge look at the Admin lead who refuses to put Mikes name on the donor list because it would result in the hospital needing to treat him. She changes her mind after a heart string tug, think of the countless who died because they deemed it not worth it to put their name the donor list, in fear of eating a surgery cost. A doctor basically says you would have to have been blind not to see Mikes condition developing but neither the hospital, insurance agency, nor his previous doctors were reprimanded. Hell the only one who got shit canned was the nurse who decided to say fuck it here’s what happened. John took people hostage, made threats, but ultimately only hit someone in self defense. Paid outta pocket for their food and tried his best to humanize the situation and let them know he intended no harm to anyone just wanted help for his son. They still charged the mother fucker for the heart, he has paid more than enough by the time Mike is done in the OR. I’d rather have watched a round of malpractice lawsuits, leading to insurance fraud lawsuits, finally with conspiracy and man slaughter charges for the admin. The part where she sees just how fast Mike gets a heart(same damn day) then pats herself on the back like she did good drives me insane.

Saw this in the movie theatre when it first came out, alot of people left in tears. Most people don't realize the impact this movie had. It sparked one the fiercest debate about our healthcare system. There were literally healthcare professionals outside of movie theatres handing out flyers to contact your congressman/women to do something about it. It was a main theme that former president Barack Obama took on when he became president and created the Affordable Healthcare Act a.k.a Obamacare.

I saw this movie in the theatre with a couple of my homeboys, I remember 80% (at minimum) of that theatre crying through out the entire movie. All you heard was sniffling all over the theatre. I've never seen a movie where there was that much crying throughout pretty much the duration of the movie. I heard numerous people flat out balling crying. Even my boys were sniffling a few times. Shit I definitely was. That part towards the end before the surgery where Denzel is giving his Son the guidelines to follow in life gets me every time. Shit, I teary eyed watching this reaction. You're really doing it with these Denzel Washington movies... And I am all here for it! I would recommend to you: Out of Time (2003) starring Denzel and Eva Mendes. It's more light hearted but the story as soon as it evolves off keeps you on the edge of your seat! It's not as hyped up as Man on Fire or the other Tony Scott directed movies which you'll get recommendations for sure by other people here but that doesn't mean it's any less good!

Such an amazing film. Denzel Washington did such a wonderful job in this film, but I also need to mention the director of the film, Nick Cassavetes, who I grew up watching as an actor in the early 80's. He followed in his father's footsteps, actor-director John Cassavetes, who was in the classic films Rosemary's Baby and The Dirty Dozen. His mother is actress Gena Rowlands. And the for Sasha at the end of the movie was for the daughter of Nick Cassavetes, who had heart problems very similar to the son in the movie.

I’m glad she finally reacted to this movie. John Q is one of those movies I feel is under appreciated. Something I’ve noticed at the beginning, the woman who crashed, in the beginning it looks like she’s looking up at the truck that’s about to hit her, but later on after John says that he’s waiting on an act of God, the camera cuts to the woman and it’s as if God is telling her that it’s time for her to die so that others may live; it just so happens that she’s an organ donor. Another thing, the hospital is called Hope Memorial, which I think is foreshadowing the main theme of the movie. I also like the compilation of scenes where the hostage crisis triggers conversations about health care in America.

This show was a great movie really makes you think what would you do in that situation. Also how crooked the insurance companies are it’s sad that this probably happens more often than we think

Your only the second person I saw react to this sleeper of a movie. I always cry when a movie involves children or animals. But thank you very much for reacting to this film

Oh my goodness. Lady is watching the ultimate Father's Day movie. One of my top 10 favorite Denzel movies.

Yes, very emotional roller-coaster of a movie. My favorite line of the movie is when John says...sick, help. sick help. I'm not going to bury my son. My son is going to bury me.

Didn’t see American Gangster, but this one and Training Day were when he did good films

@nsasupporter7557 these were when there was still a handful of human beings in leadership and executive roles in Hollywood that cared about the art of story telling. Better times
