I always liked Stossel since I was a kid and he was on 20/20, but when he did a story years ago on celebrities adopting children because it was fashionable or as an accessory for their single lifestyle and he exclaimed "Get a dog!" he became a like a god to me. Long life to him!

Sir Alfred Lawrence, so no personal freedom. What your asking for is North Korea, serious question: How does what I do in my house directly effect anyone outside of my house? The only answer I've heard is that the government is responsible for it's citizens actions, which means that citizens don't & are slaves/livestock. Every country in history of civilizations has revolted/conquered or collapsed because of corrupt government (10,000yrs & 1,000's of countries with no personal sovereignty or infallible rulers). The ruling class expands with each new form of government to allow more rulers/tyrants to have total autonomous power over peoples lives.

If you did this sort of thing all the time, I probably never even would have noticed that you were a shill. Typically I post on Shapiro, Crowder, Tim Pool, Dan Bongino and the Fox News Channels. Often times what channel I'm posting on dictates the tone. For example, I started doing this over on Dong Bongwino's channel, so many of the posters over there are familiar with me. That dynamic tends to lead to more measured posts over time.

Socialism is attractive to those who were not traumatized from the communist years. Soviet Union destroyed socialism. Venezuela didn't work out. Cuba had to slaughter thousands to achieve it's goal. I hear this shit all time time. Guess what. Soviet Union established a totalitarianism society. Dictatorship. They lied to the people ....they destroyed the socialist ideology. Did you know Lennin had several assassination attempts by SOCIALIST. This state capitalist pigs lied to the people. Venezuela was infiltrated. Cuba had the right idea but landed under the "God that failed to transition" scenario. Noam Chomsky explains it well. Look, I've read Friedman and Chomsky. They are both smart individuals with great intentions. I believe we can take a step ahead by establishing a libertarian socialist economy. Less government but stronger communities. States get more power and the federal goverment just stays in place to protect citizens from State corruption. Do I make any fucking sense or am I another left idiot?

32:00 "Libertarians are basically fighting against the natural drive of human beings to look for man-made solutions to problems that cannot be alleviated by man-made solutions." This is close, but misses a very key point. The solutions ARE man-made. They just can't be centrally planned by governent, as Mises and Hayek explained, and as history as shown. The less centrally planned and the more each individual is given room to experiment and innovate, the better the solutions are, and then they become available to the whole country over time. Only market processes work this way, but when given a chance, they almost always do work this way. Even when they are "imperfect" or "fail," they are usually less imperfect than the government intervention meant to mitigate the market failure.

I think one of the most underutilized yet effective tools we're ignoring when it comes to education is video games. Video games have the potential to teach not only quick and reactive thinking, but also have the potential to teach deeper philosophical lessons. Not only do games engage kids in a way that school never has, but it can provide them with a space to test different methods of approaching situations. Imagine being able to teach practical math and management skills using a fun and engaging game where the kids can learn without even realizing they're learning. For instance giving them a simulation game where they're able to manage a business, or a city. Or teaching them history through a game that puts them in the position of historical figures, allowing them to fully understand choices made by those people, or even better, present them with the opportunity to potentially make a better decision. Even teaching them something as simple as typing could be made so much more fun. There's a game called Typing of the Dead which is just the old House of the Dead arcade game where instead of shooting zombies you type words to kill them, and the words become more and more complex. If we want children to do better in school, we have to engage them in a way that they respond to, and that's no longer textbooks and classrooms.

I completely agree with this, and there are already some excellent games out there with serve as highly promising proofs of concept. I was extremely impressed with a game called "Democracy 3" back in high school, in which you served as the head of a democracy with hundreds of manipulable policies at your disposal and almost two dozen unique and overlapping demographics you had to try and appease, and of course part of your responsibility included managing the budget. The general goal was to improve your country while keeping enough people happy enough to be re-elected. What impressed me was how well the game was able to present an unbiased vision of democratic politics and recognize the more practical aspects of governance. Another, smaller game exactly in the sort of vein you're describing is the free browser game "electrocity", a simple town management simulator centred around energy production and pollution control. It was actually made to be played in classrooms and teach kids the nuances around balancing the needs of people with the costs of pollution. The game grades you at the end along a number of different metrics, such as city population, energy self-sufficiency, environmental impact and population happiness. I found it to be surprisingly fun, and ended up playing through the whole game four different times. TL;DR you're absolutely right, there's definitely a great potential for videogames to potentially serve a more educational role.

Thanks for having John on Ben. I have always been a news nerd even as a kid in the 80's I always crushed the current events quiz the teacher gave. I have watch John on 20/20 with Hugh Downs and Barbara Walters. But it is great that compared some of John's early work he has finally taken the red pill. He is a great advocate for freedom of choice, thanks for having him on, and if I get this job I am hoping and praying I get, I will subscribe to the Daily Wire.

Great interview, although as a Libertarian I gotta push back against Ben injecting morality into politics. Your morality & religion are yours to create, it is not the role of Libertarianism to create your morality that's your responsibility as an individual to find a morality in whatever religious community you choose to participate in. Libertarianism has one universal tenant don't harm other people, and the rest is up to you.

I think to a point you are right. But I do agree with Ben in a sense that as a society, having an established culture and moral is needed to function and move forward. Because without it there’s no baseline to set when it comes to decisions as a whole. It’s why places like Japan have such low crime rates and peace in their culture.

Regarding taxation: the fallacy both Shapiro and Stossel make is thinking that taxation is the _only_ way to pay for the legitimate functions of government. After all, before 1913 (excluding Lincoln’s unconstitutional version), there was no federal income tax. Yet we still had a military, etc. There are other ways of paying for government (which would be about 10% of the current size if limited to constitutionally delegated powers), e.g., paying the government to guarantee adjudication of contracts, e.g., a kind of insurance. What the best means of finance of government would be hasn’t really been determined, but few have yet to explore this subject. But it would be wrong if my neighbors ganged up and forced me to give them my money. It doesn’t magically become moral because millions of strangers gang up on me and hide behind the guns of government. Taxation _is_ legalized theft. As for government-run education, that is a violation of the First Amendment. The government has zero right to dictate what ideas are taught, how they are taught, who may teach, etc., etc. There should be a complete separation of education and government. This includes universities, academic research, arts, etc. My life, my property, my money, my choices, my responsibility. As long as I am peaceful and don’t use coercive force against other peaceful people, I can do whatever I want regardless of how others feel about it.

So you want the right to enjoy the benefits of a relatively free country with protected borders, but you also don't want to have to contribute anything to it? Wow, and you Americans call the left wingers lazy.
@1maxruss
@1maxruss 6 лет назад
@@Jakvox3241 Uh, point out _specifically_ where I - or anyone in this thread - said we "don't want to have to contribute anything to it?" No? I didn't so. The point of my post - which you egregiously evade and ignore - was that _proper_ government functions should be paid for, but _not by taxation_. Just as "left wingers" do, you distort/misstate a position and then attack that false claim rather than what someone _actually_ said. That is a "straw man fallacy," which, since you seem sadly lacking in the ability to engage in proper critical thinking/argumentation, you are apparently innocent of knowledge in that area. Since you said "you Americans," I assume you aren't even a U.S. citizen, which makes your comments even less relevant and more pointless and lazy.

We NEED a privatized/free market for hospitals and insurance, we 1) shouldn't be forced to have insurance, 2) we should be able to choose where we go and not have insurance tell us where the hell we can/can't go.... and 3) a flat rate fee for certain things --- xrays should be a certain price no matter where you go
