America's politicians passed more than $2 trillion in spending to keep the economy afloat during the virus pandemic.

America probably can't afford it. Our federal debt is now where Greece’s debt was just before it’s peak financial crisis. Unemployment there hit 27%.
Greece got bailed out, but nobody will bail America out.
So how will America pay off its debt?
There are really three options:
-- Default
-- Print money
-- Raise taxes
All are awful choices. In the video above, I go through each, and confront Congressman Warren Davidson about how America got to this point.

Tyler Durden uhhh... I’m pretty sure the holders of the federal reserve notes might just disagree with you there... you can’t just erase the goods and services those notes purchased... Not only would that instantly crash our economy, it would burn all the bridges with our trading partners, thus crashing it even faster... According to your proposal, I could just declare my mortgage invalid but replacing the USD borrowed with Nicholas bucks... voila! House paid off! You can't compare the national government to a household budget. They are completely different-households don't create the nation's currency. We, the private sector, can only have dollar savings if the the federal government first spends the dollars into existence; it can't be any other way because where else would money come from? Savings can't come from bank loans. The only source of savings in the private economy is federal deficit spending. That's why this video is so wrong - they're getting reality backwards..

@dtperkins1 3 года назад
@@TheBandFiles Not backwards at all. What's backwards is the notion that we can spend, spend, spend with no consequences. If that is true, then why just a $2 or $3 trillion dollar stimulus package? @TheBandFiles
@TheBandFiles 3 года назад
In the 6th grade (1967 for me), the US was still on the international gold standard. The world is not on a gold standard now, and this whole video is based on outdated myths. The federal government "prints money" every time it makes a payment to someone. The key is not to create more money that there are resources to buy with it-that's when inflation happens. (The govt doesn't really print the money, of course, I'm just using the common but incorrect parlance.)
@huverdoose
@huverdoose 3 года назад
@@TheBandFiles It's even scarier that they don't have to actually print it anymore. About the only way it could be easier is if the Fed was "wired" and could create money by simply thinking it.
@TheBandFiles
@TheBandFiles 3 года назад
@@huverdoose It's not about the Fed, it's about Congressional appropriations for needed programs. The Fed has no say in the matter. The Fed creates money to buy securities if banks need reserves. When Congress spends, the Fed, as the central bank, merely follows Treasury's instructions to make the payments. Low inflation and high unemployment tell us that we can spend more without inflation (or increased taxes).
@TheBandFiles

@@TheBandFiles Great response. We've also created financial instruments that can tackle inflation AND we're really not at risk for hyperinflation, which is what deficit hawks fear, until we have debt levels at about 400% of GDP (We're at about 133% at the moment). We're also the world's reserve currency, control the SWIFT system and we're the petrodollar. We have a lot of leverage that austerity hawks completely ignore. I believe they like comparing government spending and budgets with individual household budgets and that's just a ridiculous comparison since individual households can't issue bonds or write-off debt or the dozens of other things that the government can do.

I live in a 200 unit complex and people are moving out, mostly because of INCREASES, though some due to unemployment as well. Whatever you do, don't move to NC. People are moving out of Charlotte and The Piedmont Triad because they can't afford to live there any longer. Landlords squwak: "Rent is WAY cheaper here than in NYC, Chicago, SF, or LA" while failing to recognize that wages are lower as well. Honest to God, they act like a place such as High Point, NC (bumphuck) where the average wage is around 32K per year, should have rents matching those in places where wages average 100K per year. I got off topic- point I was trying to make is that if landlords here would just stop INCREASING the rents, they might do OK. @restitutororbis964
@restitutororbis964 4 года назад
@@ShubhamMishrabro You see, during the old times, WW2 and beyond there was this thing called the Gold Standard. Now, what the Gold Standard did is that it tied exchangeable currency notes (money) to gold. Countries would be filling up or depleting their treasuries with certain amounts of gold, thus stabilizing and facilitating keeping a low inflation and stable growth. However, during FDR's presidency and in my opinion his biggest mistake 2nd to the New Deal, he decided to move the US further to fiat currency. Fiat currency is supposed to be money tied to a nation/government's power. It essentially means that the money we hold in our hands is imaginary and can only be given value by us and the government, not a physical good such as gold. This system is TERRIBLE as it requires a central bank and a lot of money printing to make it work. So why use it if it's so bad? Well, people who supported a change to fiat currency had this really stupid and ignorant idea that the Gold Standard actually held back growth and economic potential. Fiat did nothing, but bring problems that shouldn't exist such as hyperinflation. The Gold Standard did not "hold back" economic potential, since free banking reigned at the time there was no money printing to expand the money supply. But, people still believed this lie and that's why it happened. Hope this helped.

I own a small business and was affected by the C19 virus. I didn't ask for any grant money or assistance from the government either. And my business stayed open and has had two of it's best years so far. Unfortunately, I attribute some of that to people spending their stimulus dollars on our services, but I can't help that. I started my business with no debt to banks or government. And it will stay that way for as long as I own it. Thanks, John!

@@koichinishi9075 Capitalism is based in the nation state but operates in the world market. The world market is finite so competition for those finite markets breaks out which leads to trade war and then real war. Globalism is not the direction the world's national based capitalist classes are and will take. Instead the are already entering into trade wars over who gets to sell what at a profit where because they have all entered an era of overproduction. The ability of capital to make more than it can sell at a profit. Our ideas are based in materialism not idealism. Idealism is where you get together decides upon ideals like say those expressed in the bible and try and make everything fit into that box. With Marxism we start with facts and draw generalizations from those facts. We aren't always right but we are right more often than wrong. Let say our ideas are too idealistic. Well do you think world war III will provide the final fix for capitalism?

Physical assets, guns and ammunition, precious metals and the ability to grow food will always keep their value.
@jakegarrett8109
@jakegarrett8109 4 года назад
Yep, assuming they don’t ban most handguns and rifles like the bill they are currently working on, then that would be the way to go. But ammo goes bad after a while, and most guns will probably be confiscated soon, so maybe precious metals for long term. However ammo and alcohol are always something a farmer will trade food for, copper they don’t give a rats buttocks about, but gold they might just because everyone else values it for some reason. Growing food is always a great idea since it doesn’t cost much at all to startup (though currently not worth the time and effort, but that’s coming from a farm kid because it doesn’t make much by the ton, but it is sure better than not having food!) Firearms are almost the only thing that retain value (buy one used obviously), and along with providing security for your family, food on the table by hunting, it’s also just great fun knocking some cans over and having a blast with your kids, so overall they are almost never a bad investment (keep you fed, keeps you safe, keeps you happy, what more could you ask?)

Vera 1957 I do have to leave my house daily... My routine hasn’t changed at all (if anything I’m outside way more enjoying flying my toy quadcopters), my job is listed as critical for national security, and since the roads are empty I’m enjoying empty streets to really spool up my RX-8 (not that I don’t always floor it anyways and spit some flames out the tailpipes and have my face pressed to the glass as I don’t slow through intersections at 50 mph), so literally nothing has changed except that it’s nice and clear for me to do whatever I want. Even the office is half empty so it’s nice and quiet so fewer distractions. (Also since my boss isn’t there, I can show up 30 minutes later like today, haha!). I only wish I didn’t have to work, as then it would be like vacation (plenty of time to design indoors for fun, 3d print things, weld up a project bike, and fly even more or play video games). I don’t like traveling on vacations, I call them “staycations”, I simply have everything I want right here.

@fartwhif Right. So the mobile phone industry can keep putting up towers and then intrude on over-the-air TV frequencies. Companies can just go and dip into the amateur radio bands. Anyone can sell anything that can transmit or receive in military-use frequencies. Anyone can put out a device that just emits nothing but noise and interferes with everything else. That's not going to happen through cooperation.
