Can’t think of any other director who has made so many really good movies!!! Even Joe Kidd placed ridiculously low at No.17 is better than most other directors best efforts.
Nice pick. When viewing this video...I was constantly saying to myself he directed that.....so I would say it was educational for me. Ok...20 of his movies. (1) Love that you included a The Great Escape quote at the beginning. (2) Seen 3 of the first 5 movies shown....neither are favorites. (3) Wow only 1 movie seen for movies 15 to 11.....and I did not really like The Old Man And The Sea. (4) The Top 10....I always wanted to see #8 Hour of the Gun....glad to see you did not ignore Mr. Caine this time....as his The Eagle Has Landed has a Top 6 spot....actually saw that one in theaters. (5) The Top 5....all very good movies....but #1 The Great Escape is one of my favorite all-time movies...so glad to see it ranked first. He and Steve McQueen most have gotten along great.....as they made many movies together.....another winning video. Voted up.
Thanks Bruce glad you liked the final results. The top two were in a ratings battle but Great Escape won the final round. Leonard Maltin's definitely a fan he gave it 5 out of 5, that's more than he gave Ben-Hur and Mrs. Miniver! :) The Eagle Has Landed wasn't well received when it came out but has gotten more respect over the years. It gets shown on TV all the time here in the UK. Sturges was an under-appreciated director, some of these films are all time classics that still hold up today. You won't get many viewers flipping channels while a Sturges film is on.
I Like John Sturges Movies I Have On DVD In Alphabetical Order The Eagle Has Landed The Great Escape Gunfight At The O.K Corral The Hallelujah Trail Joe Kidd The Magnificent Seven Never So Few
There is one movie on this list that stands out like a sore thumb-or like Lana Turner in a sweater. It is like finding an action film in a list of Douglas Sirk movies.
