Clearly he is such an intelligent, feeling guy. A real thinker and feeler, probably an empath, which would have made his level of fame, adulation, and insanity of being so hot and famous almost unendurable for him. Hence the drugs and alcohol. Even though he is likely stoned out of his mind here, the real JT is still there, articulate and in touch with his thoughts and feelings. Good for you, JT, you have become victorious over the demons that threatened your existence and have made a good life
So wise for his young age. I didn’t like the way the interviewer asked the questions. Guess JT showed him that he’s not a “teeny bopper” and nor was DD ever that type of band. So much talent and creativity, today still in 2021.
My uncle met him. In his words he said "He’s a very nice guy. Very quiet & pleasant. We did a few shows with him when he was touring with Neurotic Outsider."
He shouldn't have to apologize for what he has succeeded in. He started the band and had the success. Why can't he show it off? He was young and excited about it. He's such a dear. He cares so much about the band and music!
John was calm and collected through the interview, maybe a bit high but still in control and thoughtful. When the reporter tried to call them "teeny pop" he kept his cool and put him in his place... John's very smart, they all are.... 40 years later they're still here.
There is a huge difference between bands back then and now, we have to remember John was a huge star and the handsome of the 80s but also he is a super good musician and he is talking about George from Culture Club which were at the same level back then, who is also an amazing song writer and musician. These guys were not only pretty faces, they were smart and with a deep music knowledge at that young age. You dont get to be number one at 21 years old just like that. These bands will always be remembered while the ones right now are just a bunch a models with instruments and no brain that will be forgotten soon.
They’re so much more intelligent than people credit them for, I’m glad they were able to make-up and bond again to create a wonderful friendship between them :)
Isn’t he?❤️ I don’t think he was high at all! All those comments.. he’s just soft spoken, sensitive, passionate and ambitious. I so deeply adored him back then...still do today. So much love and respect for him and the whole band.
@@JC-yz1sf He is an emotion guy even now. Here is a sensitive man and very sweet and normal. Yes he had an addiction but he got help and people need to stop bringing it up in every comment. If he only knew what people are saying! Shame on them. I think he's inspirational for getting clean and sober!
Awh John 😭😭 he's clearly upset about how they have been treated hurts my heart 💔💔 I think they are sweethearts. They where and still are extremely hard working musicians. John is the most amazing bass guitarist and singer. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and went through alot. He said himself how lonely he was and how he felt he needed the drink and drugs. Doesn't take away from how great he was and is to this day in everything he does
Joe Elliott of Def Leppard said in an interview something of this sort: Back when we started our band, The Beatles had been broken up for 10 years, the Rolling Stones were barely reaching 20. No bands had been around for 30 or 40 years, and stayed together as mostly a while. We have. And so have Duran Duran! Rock-on my two fave 40+ year Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bands!
When talking about Culture Club, no one ever mentions their musicianship. With DD, John’s playing style and basslines are frequently brought up as are Nick’s synths and Andy’s guitar riffs.
This interview aged well for JT, not so much for the interviewer. Now those "teeny boppers" are all in their 50s and 60s, still listening, still going to their concerts, along with new generations of fans. DD is sill making great music...certainly didn't "peak"at 23...
It's so hard to see how much is John upset and that man just called him "teeny pop" are you kidding me right now?! John is a kind, honest person with a good soul, empathy and lot of deep feelings.....Person who has the prettiest face and everything (I know he wouldn't like to hear that, but it's true), (very) great bass guitarist,....He has a great sense of humor, fashion and music ( Bryan Ferry is really good singer at Roxy music band).... A big idol of 80s ( I'm really a big fan and admirer of him, i have a lot of posters in my room)....and the way how he asked him is not really permissible and isn't the right way.... It was good of John to keep calm and don't take it personally....please never tell these sh*ts again
John is great these days. He's sober and off drugs for almost 25 years. He's fantastic now with his wife of over 20 years. He also has a daughter and two stepchildren.
Maybe he was maybe he wasn't. Clearly he is talking and feeling. Clearly he is upset about how they have been treated. He felt he needed the drink and drugs to be what people wanted him to be he felt the pressure . He was and is a hard working musician.
