I made this last night. I used Can of Grand Biscuit's. worked out Perfect. It was a Big Hit! We loved it. we will be making this more often. Thank you Catherine, for sharing your delishous Mexican flavored dishes. God bless you. 🔥JOHN WAYNE CASSEROLE🔥 🔥🔥 IS FIRE! 🔥🔥
Wayne used to secretly visit a friend of my dad's in the early 70s, who was a movie producer here in Louisiana. Wayne loved southern biscuits and gravy.
I made this for my family tonight they loved it. I added a green bell Pepper and I rinsed off a can of black beans. It was very very good. Thank you for all these wonderful recipes. My son was oh I could eat just the filling and be happy and my daughter say mom this would be very good as just a dip too. Lol. I have been disabled for over ten years don’t cook much anymore. This recipe was so quick and easy only had to sit down a fe times while making it and then to hear how awesome it was. Made me feel young again lol
Have all the ingredients for this one, looks yummy.I use your paper towel trick, works great. Even at 75 I have learned alot from you Catherine. Thanks. Joseph missed out using his favorite tool , the meat chopper.
This casserole got made a little late for Valentine's but we're eating it now and it's delicious Catherine...fun to make and it's neat the way the crust forms on the bottom. Cabbage fried and then stewed with a little of the beef broth too. Yum...😋🤗
Catherine... Just here grabbing a few casseroles and a good cake recipe. My sister just had a baby and I'm making food for her and my brother-in-law. My family is grateful for you sharing so many recipes. We are eating really well since I found your channel! Thank you!!!
I need to know how the baby is now! Lol- I just randomly came across your comment and saw it was 10 months ago you were cooking for your sis and brother in law because baby was here. So now I’m invested. Lol. Hope you are all doing great!❤
Made this casserole for dinner last , evening for dinner, we really liked it , so flavorful. I made half the recipe, since there are only two of us. Thanks Catherine.
As always you have a home run with this recipe. I love how you adapt a recipe to your own taste and tell us how we can do the same. I think I have all the ingredients to make this for dinner this week. Thank you!
My John Wayne Casserole is in the oven. My husband was watching your "show" with me, and he asked me to make it for him. : ) It smells fantastic! Can't wait to try it!
Save your time and money! I was soooooo excited to make this casserole it looked so good, never dawned on me that Mexican Seasoned casserole has no business being mixed with biscuits!! It came out looking sooooooo beautiful, but tasted AWFUL,,,,the only way I could salvage it was to serve with a side of refried beans, sour cream and shredded lettuce! Nothing against you Catherine! You are awesome, your directions wren perfect!, ,!
Oh my goodness Dear you have once again gave me another great recipe and I can't wait to make it.....THANKS SO MUCH DEAR....God-bless you and your family......
I use the paper towel trick all the time. Easy and no greasy bowls to cleanup. My husband really appreciates all the Mexican inspired dishes I've been trying. Lol.
Yes! Also, I save my empty coffee cans and lids to drop those greasy paper towels in until I’m ready to throw them out. Keeps the kitchen trash can cleaner. This recipe is delicious, thank you for sharing! ❤️🇺🇸❤️
OMG I have done that for years and I thought that I was the only one L O L. I don’t see why anybody would ever dirty a bowl to drain grease it just doesn’t make sense to me and cleaning a colander is the last on my list of fun activities ha ha.
Instead of mayo I did sour cream and a little heavy whipping cream. Also did bell peppers instead of corn and a tiny can of diced jalepenos which the sour cream evened out. It was bomb as hell!
My husband would love this, I'd probably use ground turkey as we are cutting back on red meat, but I'll have to give it a try for him. Thanks for sharing.
Oh yeah, Ground Turkey would certainly be better than beef. Or try Ground Pork , or Ground Veal. Veal is kinda pricey. But the taste is wonderful. We mix Ground Turkey & Ground Veal together to make our meatballs. Or to do our meatloaf. The Veal helps to make the other meat product softer in texture when it’s completely cooked. Of course you use other spices to help it along. Try it sometime if you are in the market for a change or two..
@@machinayrequiem8596 I was taught that pork was considered the other white meat. But, since you are saying it’s still red meat. I won’t make the dish at all.
@@hestergreen2031 Pork, veal, beef, all have more myoglobin than poultry and fish which is why it is considered red meat. They made ground chicken, and ground turkey. Try it with that.
This John Wayne Casserole is the Bomb! My husband raves about it and wants it once a week, says it’s his favorite casserole. So now I know the recipe by heart. Friends are asking me for the recipe and I refer them to your U Tube channel and we never heard of it before!!! Lovely and simple and easy❤❤
I have family coming to visit me in the end of next month and I'm excited I'm going to be making the John with casseroles with my sister I got the recipe from you so thank you
yum. I have 3 boxes of bisquet mix and find when i make a batch, we just don't eat them fast enough. So, I have been making 1/2 package. This is a great idea. Thank you. It's what's for dinner.
Yum! Love recipes with Mexican spices too! This seems like a Mex twist to shepherd’s pie. Can’t wait to give it a try. Thanks again for another easy to follow meal in one dish!
It looks really good. I make a similar one with beans but no crust. I eat it with tortilla chips and my husband makes soft tacos. I think it would be very good with a cornbread layer.
I'm a big fan of John Wayne's so I like him they're saying I'm not too sure of this I've never made Bisquick dough before so I'm not sure that will work out I may just have to use the biscuits thank you dear and I love your recipes and I love your channel take care and God bless
We had a recent unexpected death in the family a couple days ago. I couldn’t figure out what to take for dinner tonight, and then I found this recipe. I had to modify it a little bit because of what I had in my pantry on hand, but it is absolutely delicious! Thank you so much
Catherine I have been using your method to drain grease for years. I have to tell you I tilt my pan a little bit weather using the cupboard edge or I put something under one side of it. It works great because everything runs down to the paper towel and nothing sits under the meat. Give it a try one of these times you do another meal. You will be amazed at what is hiding under the other side of the meat. Thank you for all you do. I enjoy your videos very much. Blessings to you and your family.
I already made the taco mix up, it's so much more flavorful than store bought! I'm right in the middle of moving so this we feed hungry men! Thanks Catherine! 🤠
I’d omit the diced tomato’s and green chilis, and replace it with a previously roasted red and green peppers (I keep them, and fried Vidalia onions, in various portions, in the freezer, for easy use.) and red or black beans. I would take this base, add elbow macaroni, and taco cheese blend. I’d put a hefty layer of Mexican cheese blend on top, and chuck it under the broiler. Oh, no, I am now starving! Thanks for the inspiration on a great idea😊. Ooohhh, would work great with chili, too…..
This was served in our school cafeteria back in 60’s but I don’t remember cream cheese. Most of the time with cornbread topping but occasionally with biscuit topping. They called it chili pie or taco pie. It was pretty good compared to the Turkey Tettrazini or the meatloaf.
Love your channel. Made this two days ago. The sauce that it makes is absolutely delicious. It was just a little spicy hot for me, my wife loved it. I changed my recipe just to make it not quite so spicy hot. Next time I will use less Taco seasoning. I am a guy & am 76. I do most of the cooking for us. Made many of yours so Keep Up the Recipe work. Thanks John B from Mattoon, Illinois.
