John Wick: Chapter 2 I FIRST TIME REACTING I Movie Review & Commentary 

Although the new dog is only called "faithful companion" in the credits, Keanu said they called him "Bubba" on the set while filming.

The scene with the "Sommelier" when he's buying weapons is one of my favorites in the whole franchise :) And yes, "fortune favors the bold" is the translation of his tattoo.

Funny when you said "imagine going on a tour of the catacombs and you see dead ppl"....catacombs is nothing but dead ppl. 🤣🤣🤣

24:20 The 12 statues are the 12 main gods in Greek and Roman mythology. The statue directly behind Santino is Hercules throwing his messenger Lichas to his death after receiving a poisoned shirt. He goes on a rampage before being brought to Olympus and joining the gods. Jon's going against the High Table (made up of 12 seats) by trying to kill Santino. Also, the guy that took care of John's dog is called Charon. That was the boatman that brought the dead to the Underworld. The woman with Santino is called Ares. The war god. There's a lot of mythology in these movies.

Seeing this in theaters back in 2017, that final shot hit _hard._ John Wick was already a legendary movie, and most people knew the seriousness of the hotel rules. You could feel the entire theater holding their breaths, and the shock of it when John decided the rules didn't matter more than his vengeance. But if there was anyone who could break the rules and handle the heat, it was John. We back then didn't know until a few months prior there was even going to be a Chapter 2, so seeing John back on screen after so many years of uncertainty was a treat. Seeing John reaching for the pencil had me downright giddy. Nothing could prepare for how this series evolved, and if you think John was in top form here, you haven't seen anything yet.

I honestly simply never get tired of watching people go through this series of movies for the first time. It's held a very special place in my heart since I saw the first film. The setting/world and characters are utterly badass and interesting, the (albeit very simple) narratives still grip me enough, and John Wick action just changed my viewpoint on "cool movie action" forever. Glad you've been enjoying the movies so far! Hope to see Chapters 3 and 4 soon.

You're going to love part 3. It's absolutely bananas. Somehow the movies just got better and better.

I wasn't sure how you would feel about these movies, but you surprise me! I love that you would want to help John. Lamby, and the little dragon outfit are so precious! Your sense of humor is delightful. Can't wait for you to see chapter 3!

Jax seems to be the only reactor who A. Knew John was _trying_ to get to the Continental, not that he just got there by accident, B. Knew John wasn't really trying to kill Cassian, which explains why at certain points in the fight he didn't take an obvious opportunity, and C. Notices all the symbolism in the movie, from the avenging angel wings to the 12 Olympian statues watching a fight between Hercules and Lichian.

Fun fact: after John Wick came out, his reputation as an assassin became so big at the time the video game Payday 2 asked to make John Wick a playable, canon character in the game. Even though the game already came out before the first John Wick, they got permission and added him as a character with his own unique build. His origin story closely aligned him with the movie's story and implied origin + tied him personally to another Payday character. In this movie, as the janitor assassins get the text about John Wick's bounty, you can see behind them the iconic Payday 2 masks in large posters plastered on the wall, specifically Wolf's and Chains' (Chains in the game was said to have served in the Marines with John.) Small details like that really elevate these movies

I love that you get most of your question answered right away after asking. It really shows how well you can follow along well enough to make predictions through those questions. This is a great example of why I try not to give anything away for marvel movies but nod in silence and praise your questions. It’s a relief to see how invested you are and this is also a great series. Doesn’t overstay it’s welcome. Keep up the great questions, they may be answered.

Also, in case nobody has mentioned it, the Continental's doctor was also in The Matrix trilogy, as the Keymaster, in the second movie.

The religious and mythological themes in this franchise hit really, REALLY hard. That's one of the best and underrated parts of this franchise - not the insane action, not the cinematography, not even the score. There is a clear, powerful through line of Greek and Roman mythology mixed with Dante's Inferno, and it makes analyzing this series critically in retrospect very satisfying from a thematic perspective.

Kali is a Hindu god often associated with death ad violence, but i believe in that scene there is a double meaning as he was just freed from his marker. Some Hindu sects believe that Kali also gives "moksha" (liberation).

This series is a very tangled web of intrigue. They twist and turn a lot. I love the naive outlook you sometimes have... and I love seeing (good) movies again through fresh eyes.

Loved your reaction to How to Train Your Dragon etc, the Pencil scene in this movie is worth the wait! the guy who gives John a tasting (lots of guns and clothes) when he gets to Rome is in Shawn of the Dead, VERY different role um the catacombes is where dead bodies were put so seeing dead bodies is a surprise only cos they are fresh?

This really was a Matrix reunion with the exception of Trinity. Chad Stahelski(director) was Keanu's stunt double in The Matrix and the the stunt coordinator for Matrix Revolution, Lawrence Fishburne the Bowery King of course was Morpheus, the doctor who sewed up John in the first movie was the "Keymaster" in Matrix Revolutions. I loved that you picked up on all the visual allusions in the film. Great Eye for detail! I'd marry you in a heartbeat😍

I always took the dog not having a name as he didn't want to tell people the name. Even if he does have one. Remember in the first one, Viggo's son (forgot his name) made a deal of "I love dogs" before the break-in. Telling the name is sort of admitting the connection and putting him at risk because if they can't kill John, they'll hurt him through his connections.

27:32 it would’ve been funny when the water fountain shut off you see a bunch of bodies dead on the ground with John & Common still standing with their guns (a parody or comedy movie). 28:52 not someone wanting me dead but I have been on a subway where a major brawl broke out. Two other guys and myself made a wall between innocent people and the fighters. We just let them keep their attention on themselves and not the bystanders till the car stopped and station cops jumped on. That was the last time I rode on a subway and never want to again. 32:31 I love the way he delivers his line about getting him a gun just like Alan Rickman in Die Hard. 33:26 that’s one thing about this series that’s so great is any gun he grabs from someone isn’t necessarily a full clip. Keanu went to a lot of weapons training to make the movie so realistic. If the weapon holds 15 bullets then after the 15th either he drops the clip or throws the gun to look for something else. A lot of action movies don’t focus so much on that. 37:04 he wasn’t always willing to break the rules of the Continental but Santino pushed him over the edge by destroying his house then stabbing him in the back after he did what he wanted. The first three movies take place within a couple weeks and the fourth he gets a little rest but can’t remember the time frame. 38:59 it seems that Winston treats him like a son.

The girl behind Santino as he blows up John's house (and other scenes in the movie) is Ruby Rose, an Australian actor, boxer, presenter. Maybe you recognised her from "Orange is the new black" or maybe "The Doorman".

That scene where Santino fire the grenade laucher... he had an optic on that grenade laucher and he fire at a house... that say everything about Santino! Oh, about the pencil fight, it's even more dangerous now because modern day pencil are made from plastic materials, not wood, so they don't break anymore!

It adds to the believability of the movie since there is precedence in real history. Some even argue that this is the origin of the Beggars Guild in China's past as well as the Ninja of Japan.

The 1911 he is given is an old gun, but it’s still a reliable design that influenced almost all modern day handguns. The .45 caliber rounds it fires will generally bring someone down in one shot, but the magazine capacity is usually smaller because of the bigger round.

I lot of professionals use the Mozambique drill (2 shots to body, 1 to the head) it is very effective for a kill and allows you to shoot then move away without concern you are turning your back on a potential threat. I was based out of NYC and was in the D train heading to the Bronx. Saw a transit cop shot and killed no one gasped screamed or even stood up. I could not act because of the assignment I was on but called it in and the train was stopped in the tunnel till the caught the 3 thugs.

Of course it is poetic that Charon conveys the condemned man to the site of his potential demise. In classical myth Charon is the ferryman who carries the dead across the Styx to the underworld. This is why the tradition of placing coins on the eyes of someone who is to be buried, so the dead has the price of the fare for the ferryman.

He would absolutely take his car and leave. He isn't enjoying this. He already got revenge for Daisy by killing everybody involved. Now all he wants is to get his car back and be left alone. This uncle didn't do anything, the uncle's men didn't do anything, so John would leave them alone if they didn't get in his way. That said... The uncle doesn't believe that. He's a bad man. He's lived his whole life full of greed and vengeance and power. The uncle wouldn't walk away. He'd kill everybody to show the world not to mess with him. He is judging John Wick by his own system of values. But he's wrong.

Stuntmen in that stair scene........it hurt me every time I see that scene.....and it is good they did not CGI it, it feels to the audience when stuntpeople do it correctly, like this

I'm part of that venn diagram of people who love John Wick and How to train your Dragon, I think there are quite a few, especially people with kids. You are so right, John Wick does a great job of continuing the story, It's like Star Wars Original Trilogy in that way. It really helps with continuity of story when they do that. The reveals throughout these movies of the layers and complexity of the assassin guild are wild and really amp up tension. So subtle at times, blatant at others, but always scary. It also makes you understand why someone would follow rules, even if they don't want to. Wonderful reaction as always, thank you for bringing light into my day. Have a good one.

You already looked it up but a round is one unit of ammunition (ammo), often incorrectly referred to as a bullet (as in "how many bullets left in that gun"). The bullet is just one of the four components of a round (or cartridge) of ammo. The bullet is the component that goes down the barrel, out the muzzle, and hits or misses the target. So saying "stray bullets" is correct. The powder component burns very quickly and provides the high pressure gas that propels the bullet down the barrel. The primer component ignites the powder. The cartridge case (usually made of brass but sometimes steel) holds and combines the primer, powder, and bullet into a package called a cartridge, or round, not a bullet. The John Wick movies strive for technical accuracy when it comes to firearms, hence referring to ammo as rounds instead of bullets. Keanu Reeves trained extensively with real firearms - there are RU-vid videos showing him training, you should check them out - so he would look experienced and skilled when using firearms onscreen. The fancy move you saw him do - pulling the slide back with one hand to see if there was a round chambered and ready to fire - is called a "press check", and was kind of a wink to the members of the audience who know firearms that Keanu/John really knows his stuff. I know I'm 3 months late but "7 rounds" just means 7 "bullets". The proper term is "round" since the term "bullet" just refers to projectile that is flying through the air, while "round" refers to the entire "thing" that is loaded into a magazine. The entire "thing" is, the shell casing, gunpowder, and the bullet that actually leaves the gun from the front of the barrel. How that helps and that i didn't confuse you.

This is my 2nd time watching a Jax Reaction and as I have already seen all JW movies I am watching these reactions just for your facial expressions and commentary. You make me smile with your Naivety. Keep going girl.

It's awesome how they make John out to be as much as the mythical Babayaga. The goon at the beginning that was shot in the knees make the growling and yelling sounds like an actual monster. That's why the stories people tell are that of The Babayaga killing everyone are made to sound so ominous and horrifying.

You may have found this out already and if so, I apologize. A "round" is a unit of ammunition. It consists of the cartridge case, the primer, the powder, and the bullet. Basically when the trigger is pulled, the guns hammer comes down and strikes the primer, which in turns ignites the powder and that propels the bullet out through the barrel. The case (which was holding all those pieces together) is then ejected out of the gun via the ejection port and a new round is brought up from the magazine ready to be fired.

39:03 "Don't give that to anyone, John." That's not a "fresh" marker for some new debt, it's Santino's -- the one with both John's and Santino's fingerprints, thus proving that John fulfilled Santino's marker before killing him.
