That person he's talking about is Grace Randolph 😂. She gave this movie a Rotten Tomato because she said it was boring until the last hour 🤯. She also said that Shazam 2 is better than John Wick 4 🤯🤯🤯
And I didn't think the attack dog sequence in the third chapter could be topped -- but they did it with the car scene and the dragonfly bullets -- genius level!!! This is gonna be bigger than the third movie in terms of box office.
Thanks James, great review. Saw it last night and really thought the scenes in Osaka and Paris specifically the Arc di Triumph were amazing. Really enjoy your review of this and Picard. Thanks!
I saw it Saturday with my mom. We loved it. The fight scenes looked like a dance, the cinematography was luscious, the acting was top tier. The stairs scene, 122 steps, him falling down, I laughed so hard. My mom admonished me for it because she thought it was sad, bless her. I want to see it again.
The cinematography was outstanding! The lighting in particular. Maybe it was just me, but some scenes even had a 'Blade Runner' look to it and I couldn't get over how beautiful it looked.
John Wick is Gun-Fu porn. It makes me nostalgic and reinvigorates my taste for action films especially by John Woo. Back when I was at Uni/college I had a movie The Killer by John Woo with the caption: One Cop, One Killer 10,000 bullets between them.
I'm right there with you. Back in college, I had the letterboxed boxed set of 'The Killer' and 'Hard Boiled' and I watched them until the tapes basically started to melt.
They could also do a spin off showcasing the various Continental Hotels all over the world. The problem with doing spin offs like this is that they typically end up fudging it all up.
15:30 idk if it was really a gag but an established technique that grounded john wick to being protected from headshots. I mean, aside from the absurdity of him falling off rooftops and whatnot, his head is always exposed but that "gag" was one of the most consistent answers in this universe as to why he doesn't die in his fights.
I throughly enjoyed it. Have you seen the cast for Robert Eggers Nosfertu it’s starring Bill Skarsard Nicholas Hoult Aaron Taylor Johnson Willem Dafoe and Ralph Ineson.
Hey James I've just spent the day binge watching the fringe series for the first time & I had never heard of it! What a great show for its time! It'd like to see your list of top Sci Fi series people should see, having only found person of interest last year I've come across these two gems on my own but having discovered the fringe on Friday I wonder what other great shows have passed me by? You can see why they picked Anna Torv for the role of Joel's girlfriend in the last of us after seeing her in action in her younger days... Oh & I'm loving these John wick movies so far too, going to see four in the cinema on Friday! Can't wait! 💚🇬🇧🌱
Man great review, and a strong rant at the tail end of this vid. It was a marvel(pun intended)to see this on an IMAX screen because it did what movies used to do which was to transport its audience through sheer visual world building. Not one lame action sequence in this visual beast of a flick. I hope Hollywood get's the message, but the fact remains that it's going to take a bunch of superhero movies tanking at the B.O. for the message to the moneymen that these empty caloried pg-13 swill products are no longer worth making.
It feels like the tide is starting to turn. Even if people don't realize it yet, I think people are sick of the constant deluge of bloated big budget family-friendly movies. Once people get a taste for something like JW4, they'll demand more from their entertainment.
The way they started with an omage to Lawrence of Arabia set an epic tone for the entire movie. When I saw the length of the movie, I wasn't sure if they could fill it with content, but they did. And how John fell down the stairs is the funniest thing for me
It was okay…typical average Wick action. Only with the added stupidity of choosing bow & arrows to go up against guns (because-a they are-a ancient-a Japanese-a) Better scenes in the other 3 films.
Saw it last night to a packed theater for opening night showing on a Thursday night. This movie was like a full course meal that was kinetic and man was i left super satistied and enjoyed every drop of it. While it may be unclear which way the franchise will go as well the IP of the mythology of this universe, i throughly enjoyed this movie. If there is one movie that in my opinion it is this movie as a download or DVD when its available. This the cinematic atmospheric look and style of it was unread artistically beautiful. It was my impression watching this as well throughout the entire movie is that it was made with love and a great passion put into it through and through. So much was impressive in this film to see, but i'd like to highlight one the most impressive scene in this entire film wasn't even about JW at all. It was simply the scene of Winston as he walked for what seems like 1-2 minutes through a room and my jaw dropped and mind mesmerized the entire way. Anyone that sees this movie will absolutely know the scene when they see it and can only feel astonished at the scene and what was there.
Agree. A lot of action movies in recent years have been toned down to PG13. The JW movies take action films very seriously. Rate R is the way to go. Love the past three JW movies. Will watch JW4 this weekend. Can't wait.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock He's been keeping everyone notified that it's more than likely coming out at the end of the year. They are deep in post production. You can find some bits of what the movie might be from an interview he did with @Rossatron a few years ago talking about action "Unleashing Havoc". Also highly recommend! That channel is an incredible tool for aspiring action filmmakers.
Just watched it with my stepson. I'd definitely be up for a Nobody spin off. And they probably should just end the Wick saga with this one - it was satisfying. I was a little disappointed in some of the fight scenes in that there were far too many instances of guys just waiting around for their turn at John Wick. The last 3rd of the movie was off the rails fun, tho. Wow.👍🏻
I agree with everything you said, including the minor critiques, which were mine as well. I will just add one more. Even though I thought that Atkins' character was funny, I would very much have preferred his normal self. I'm not sure if people who don't know who Scott Atkins is will suspend their disbelief that this fat guy can fight like that. Even though Donnie and Scott were strong names, my most anticipated actor to see was Bill S. He is such a good actor (he will be better than his dad, I'm sure). I saw the movie in IMAX format, but now I want to see it in 4DX!
Was wondering where your JW4 review was. Glad it gets a thumbs up! I hope to see it soon with my stepson. It's a tradition. We both shoot handguns competitively so of course we appreciate all the gun-fu. And hell, the movies are just plain, guy shit fun (altho JW1 is still my fave cause it had a lot of heart along with over the top action).
I love and adore JW1 as well. Came out of nowhere and just knocked me flat. I think you'll find that part 4 has a ton of heart as well in particular how it explores the mutual respect between Wick and Yen's characters.
Just saw Lance Reddick in this amazing clip from the Eric Andre show. He was a colossal talent. I definitely did not appreciate him as much as I should have while he was still with us.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock agreed 💚🇬🇧🌱 watched one last night & him doing what he does coz of his car & dog is just so dam cool! Loved it! & Still love Keanu... Going to sit down to two once I'm back from walking my hounds...👍
It was mostly rubbish. Nothing breaks internal logic?? Like John Wick now seemingly made from Adamantium?! 🙄 And why compare this to Disney PG-13 films? Why not compare it to the other Wick films? Do that…and this film is SERIOUSLY lacking. (It’s nowhere near as violent as “3” either). The best action was the top down filmed exploding shotgun shells massacre. By far. The rest of the action was repetitive & stupid, esp the ridiculous CGI car sequence. Reeves (good in the first 3 films) is APPALLING here! He speaks like his batteries are running out. And has zero emotion. And why is Wick ignoring the shocking betrayal by McShane? He’s just back to being a friend again! Rubbish writing. ***VERY MILD spoilers*** Where once Wick dodged damage by using his skills to not get hit (& we could genuinely see how he avoided it), now he just brushes off ‘Superman’ level damage (it’s so ridiculous it gets genuinely annoying…from plummeting off buildings, to getting hit by multiple speeding cars, to smashing down 100’s of stone steps) that makes EVERY fight pointless (who cares if he gets punched, when bone crushing falls literally do no damage)? Assassins suddenly either don’t bother to shoot when they have a chance, or simply can’t hit him even when he’s standing still! But who cares anyway right, when he’s now seemingly made of Adamantium!? And why tediously rehash “Rogue One” by making #DonnieYen blind again? Worse, it just adds to the annoying stupidity. That a blind swordsman could hear his enemy move, or feel the air moving when a sword strikes, makes (a fantastical) sense. But how does a blind man dodge getting shot by multiple gunmen standing 20-30 feet away? Can he ‘hear’ the direction a gun is pointing? What utter nonsense. The fact is if “3” had a better final 3rd with a satisfying ending we would’ve had a truly great action franchise trilogy. As it is the entire bloated finale & garbage non-ending of “3” seemed to doom the franchise UNLESS a (money-grabbing) “4” could perform a miracle…But as we know, miracles rarely happen.
@@SEAKPhotog mine is a minority view. You might like it. 👍 But the Yen stuff got stupidly annoying, and the fact Wick can now seemingly bounce nuclear bombs off his chest is tediously stupid.
@StreetFreak9000 i get ya, for sure. Wick is more super hero now. I appreciated it when he felt more human. Still looking forward to checking it out to see what I think.
"It was mostly rubbish. Nothing breaks internal logic?? Like John Wick now seemingly made from Adamantium?!" It took you until the 4th film to notice this? "Internal logic" glaringly went out the window before the conclusion of part 1, LOL. I don't think I need to be more specific about the ridiculous plot armor he had accumulated, but I'll go into further details if you insist.
@@ro4eva As i pointed out above, no, it wasn’t the same in the other 3 films (garbage ending to ‘3’ aside). I specifically stated the difference. Shame you can’t see it.
