Those knee releases are really effective when in a grappling situation. I tried it out on my brother and it actually works (with live resistance).

Just a quick note about about the second throw where John doesn’t block the knife or strike before he goes into the throw. If you look closely, Cassian is trying for a diagonal overhand slash and John uses his momentum to carry him over. It’s more obvious in the second camera angle. But keep in mind Cassian has regained control of his knife hand two times previously and each time has tried a diagonal slash, so John anticipates this and as soon as Cassian moves he proceeds with the throw. The story helps explain as well, since they’re both trained in the same style, and have fought - or at least sparred - before, they kinda know each other already. Just watching this one fight, you can pick up on how much Cassian likes his slashes. I’m sure that’s something John knew going into it. (Sorry for the late response)

I saw some krav maga techniques being used. When Mr Wick blocked using his forearm and came under and over trapping his arm and started using knee strikes. This technique is used a lot in krav maga's knife defense system.

I like the breakdown, but I've got a question: didn't you notice that Cassian's grip changes in the beginning? The stab was in forward grip, next both punches were in reversed, when thrown - forward again.

+Dudensky Yes, I definitely noticed, but I decided to cut out those portions we filmed explaining it since it's not very important. But yes, the continuity with his grip is all over the place lol.

Excellent, well done! I always felt this was a weaker scene than it could have been. For example there are all kinds of Silat responses to when you grab each others blade hands. Also they were really overusing the throws...

Yea, some of it I liked, some of it I disliked. In terms of blade fighting, there are many opportunities that were not taken advantage of, but it was a dramatic fight nonetheless :)

No, I have not. I used to watch fight scenes as a kid on VHS and go frame by frame to figure out what they were doing though. Then my friends and I would reenact the moves lol. So now I make RU-vid videos doing the same. It's a lot of work, but it's fun

love your video - always been a big fan of well-choreographed fight scenes.....over the last decade I would say there has been a very visible rise in such films - I think we can probably thank Matt Damon and the first Bourne film for that marked trend. The Wick series, the Accountant, Atomic Blonde, The Foreigner, etc etc.... have all had some really well-choreographed scenes. Anyway, I think you guys are on to a good thing as there are probably many other martial arts practitioners like myself who love to see these fights broken down step by step.........just this video alone I learned a few new knife fighting techniques that I will surely never use, but just in case I ever do need them it is nice to be prepared - great stuff guys - keep it up !!!

Yea the Bourne films definitely had an impact on modern fight scene choreography, but mostly in the way it was filmed, with the shakey camera and quick cuts in the editing. Here's my disclaimer...NEVER take a technique from a movie and believe it can be used in real life...yes they base the movements off of real techniques, but the way movies show them is usually 99% incorrect since everyone is pylling their strikes or are not in the correct range to actually hit. Any movement from a movie or game needs to be investigated thoroughly in training and experimentation with intensity to even consoder using it in real world applications. Well done! I really liked this fight scene, but I found it unrealistic how long they kept holding each other. Those that know what they are doing will break free in less than 5s. I think Freddy Maestro made a video on how knife fighters overcome such struggles within 1s.

There is a great counter that would've been perfect for the position they were in at the beginning of the scene, but then it would've ended the fight...and we wouldn't have this awesome fight scene to watch...and not to mention this AMAZING video on RU-vid ROFL 😂😎🤔

A friend of mine that taught Systema told me that the moves were strain out of his system. According to Jonathan Eusebio, the choreographer: "When we were coming up for fight styles for the film we were watching a lot of judo and sambo competitions." Sambo lending much of it's techniques to Systema, I can see where my friend thought it was Systema.

John Wick's style is basically Judo and BJJ. he learned some military knife fighting obviously too. I think the 4th film will reveal more of his fighting abilities and other skills we havent seen yet.

John wick style i like he s throw like judo but still efective is brazilian jiu jitsu style cause is real throw break down and lock and before i yellow belt brazilian jiu jitsu and little know how throw not punch and kick just lock and throw buddy.

I agree with that comment about the missed opportunities in the scene with the knife. Why didn't John get control of the knife before the throw is beyond me but i guess they needed the quick action in that scene.

+Fredd- A it is risky, you could definitely get cut, but by that time, I don't think John would have cared, he needed to end this fight now, as he is already injured in multiple places before and after this fight.

8:23 the suit is bulletproof, so Cassian wouldn't have been able to cut John this way And I guess that when someone is as skilled in Juso as John is, you hit the ground pretty quickly, he just wouldn't have enough time to cut John's legs during the fall.

Didn't like it thus part cause it made wick And cass look like common thugs instead of topnotch assassins that fight on the train started off good with shanking john wick in secret and that look like gotcha but they never should've went full mortal kombat unless everybody left the train for some reason to much chance the authorities could've got in the way and that's one thing to were are the police
