@@thomascheckie2394 he's actually right, NL is great at commentary, like extremely great, to the point I prefer to not watch this video and just put on background cuz love hearing his commentary but watching him play like this is excruciating for real, this is a strategy game, every turn the game tells u exactly what is gonna happen, every turn is supposed to be planned, NL played it like an action game lol

@@thomascheckie2394 I mean, I don't think it's hard to play better than NL on non-chess games. But more importantly, you don't need to be better than someone to notice bad play - shooting yourself in the dick is always a poor choice, you don't need to be a master to say "stop shooting your own dick every turn".

That's a thing, or at least it was in the demo. You need to click the replay button though, it doesn't do it automatically like super hot did

It's not really "at full speed" though, it's just with the cards and other gameplay elements edited out. The actual playback is still really slow and clunky though, it would be nice if they had made it actually look like a fast-paced movie scene by speeding up the actions a bit and tweaking the ridiculously stiff movement animations.

I've played it. It has balance issues. The pace is a bit slow right now and the in-game rewards are a bit stingy. Like the card upgrades aren't too good, the money after each round is low and the reward rounds don't really give you much. But if they fix those issues it can be a good game.

@@peterbedford449 I have also played it. I thought the card upgrades were pretty good. I definitely didn't think it was slow paced. If the rewards were greater it would be too easy to snowball.

@@danjackson1016 Well a difference of opinion then. Also, if it was already very good wouldn't it already be the best deck builder ever and not have a chance to be the best deck builder ever? I definitely think it needs improvement in the balance and more. It definitely isn't the best deck builder ever. But has a chance to be a good game if they do some improvements to the game flow, balance and more. I think it's a pretty stock standard deck builder in the veneer of a new one. But it can definitely be a good game, a very good deck builder, if they do some improvements to the game's rhythm and a bit more.

@@peterbedford449 theres a gap between very good deck builder and slay the spire my dude. And there's nothing standard about the into the breach approach to combat. Where has it been done before in a deck builder?

NL said he really enjoyed it and felt the game didn't get the recognition it deserved.

Yeah, I don't mind it for the turn-based actions but it's really jarringly bad for the replay (which for me was honestly the main draw of the game concept, although it does look like a pretty solid combat system without it). I just rewatched that first fight again at double speed and it was still pretty clunky looking at times so that really drives in just how ridiculously slow the normal speed replay is. I think if they jacked the speed up 1.5-2.5 times and outright changed some of the "clumsily walking into position and doing an unnatural right angle pivot" animations it could actually look pretty cool though, maybe a modder could (or already has) fix that mechanic.

I hate when people say "it's really not that hard" to something that would probably take a shit ton of work.

@@Ketsuekisan The embargo is on the actual release going up on youtube specifically. From what I understand, he's technically allowed to play it on stream, but doesn't because he doesn't want to build up an enormous backlog.

It has balance issues if you actually play it. I wouldn't buy it until they start patching it and until the full release. (I've already bought it).

My man clearly has critical thinking skills, have you seen him play chess or tetris? It's the mental overhead of keeping the banter going, glancing at chat, and interfacing with a new system that leads to the misplays. Could he play better? Yeah. But at the cost of the personality that got him where he is I wouldn't want him too.
