White Goddess was also a huge influence on George Lucas! He used it for Willow & especially the Shadow War Chronicles trilogy. He put Robert Graves into an episode of Young Indiana Jones & produced a short documentary "Robert Graves and the White Goddess". It also influenced aspects of the prequel trilogy and Clone Wars. I wonder if Williams originally gave the book to George?
@oklahomma Yeah, I have watched that interview. It's what you get if you're orchestrating for such good composers as Williams and Goldsmith, you really don't need to add anything. Even Pope's mentor, Arthur Morton says that "orchestrating for Jerry is just copying music from the yellow paper to the white paper." On the other hand, the only composers I know who loathe to use an orchestrators are Howard Shore and Ennio Morricone; Morricone calls it a "blasphemy."
I think that film music can match ANY music of the past. it is arrogant to think that because a composer wasn't writing music that was to be put in a film that it is automatically better.
King3n, first of all the first harry potter film is John Williams, and who do you think created that wonderfull theme played at the begging aka. Hedwigs theme...
@AlVasilis no haha, yes I knew he was referring to the Prophet Isaiah. But I'm a young film composer following in his footsteps, so for him to say my name is really cool! :D Visit my channel to listen to a few of my scores if you'd like :)
@bbphnix you cant compare them to star wars, indiana jones, jaws, schindlers list! Im sorry but the Williams track record dominates Danny Elfmans superhero romp btw Willimas did Superman, that was the real hit, all the batman movies sucked except for Dark Knight, Spider-man movies sucked, nightmare before christmas is a childrens movie, men in black really? Sure it won best sci-fi comedy, nobody else thought of making a sci-fi comedy (wonder why?)
