"Hey listen, I need you to do a job for us." "How much does it pay?" "It doesn't pay..." "I don't think I want to do it then." "Look, it's real quick, ok? All we need you to do is dress as a Stormtrooper while John Williams is conducting the Imperial March, and-" "I'm in."
The alternative: "Hey listen, I need you to do a job for us." "How much does it pay?" "It doesn't pay..." "I don't think I want to do it then." "Look, it's real quick, ok? All we need you to do is dress as Darth Vader while John Williams is conducting the Imperial March, and-" "I'm in."
sonic18shadow : I don’t know how John Williams understands Star Wars so much. First of all looks like an arrogant Englishman (which he is not). I mean he doesn’t look like Mr. Life of the Party. And second, he gets edited and unedited scenes and sequences and is told to make music for it. Just look at this video of Star Wars without music: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Tj-GZJhfBmI.html Like I said, he looks like an Englishman who just had his tea spilled by a waiter. But in fact there is an adventurous dude inside who understands the simple pleasures of life.
Remember, this is the man who created all of the famous themes. Superman, Indiana Jones, Darth Vader, Force theme, John Williams will always be THE composer and conductor in my heart.
@@QueenMachine. I'll give you the conductor one, but music, nope I mean what I said and disagree. A conductor should always look at their orchestra otherwise what is the point of being there if not to communicate to them.
@@SplittingProductions A Conductor doesn't always look at the Orchestra, he is conducting them by using his Baton that way they can see how high they need to play and now low they need to play, he doesn't have to look at them.
@@QueenMachine. Just shut the fuck up, dude. Not only are you annoying as hell, you don't even know what you're talking about, which is the worst thing ever when you're trying to correct other people. A conductor doesn't tell the orchestra how "high" or "low" they should play. That is written in the sheet music. What a conductor does is interpreting the score and preparing the orchestra for how it should play the piece that isn't immediately obvious from the sheet music, steering it in a direction so that it becomes one unit, not a bunch of different instruments. Maybe he wants a certain timbre, or specific dynamics and so on. At the performance, he keeps the tempo, and indicates when instruments or instrument groups should come in, or emphazise certain parts. He's like a sports coach that holds the orchestra together, before and during the performance. You didn't know, and now you know, douchebag.
Even THE MAN himself… turns his back to the orchestra to catch a glimpse of Vader.THANK YOU John and every great musician here.Truly something special to watch!
45 is considered baby age for film composers. Tom Holkenberg mentioned that when he first moved to LA at 45, one of the things that boggled his mind was that everyone thought he was young.
@@DealerCamel I see what you're saying, although some of my favorites such as Elfman, Zimmer, Horner, Arnold, etc... already composed their first popular works in their early 30s. And JW himself was already scoring during the 60s. Perhaps it's the profession itself that deserves more recognition since composers in other mediums tend to fizzle out earlier. Would Paul McCartney had been better off transitioning into making film musicals like Alan Menken in his mid-40s? I don't know.
" do you remember that time you scared humanity shitless to go swimming at the beach ever after?" John williams; " yeah...fun times" " Well I got this 7ft tall astmatic space dude who likes to make an entrance..." Williams; "say no more...!"
I don’t think so. We’ll continue to be able to enjoy his work for the rest of time. True artists create something that will outlive them, John Williams has for sure left a great mark onto the world that will never be forgotten. John Williams will always be alive to me.
I was in student symphonies in high school and college. I seem to remember that we tried running a piece without our conductor (the conductor would have had us try it as an exercise). Certainly doable, but with a reduction in quality. An orchestra takes up so much space that the speed of sound starts to matter. I can't remember exactly what happened when we tried.
The orchestra stays together is surprising? Really? I’ve played in concerts like this, definitely not at this scale but a conductor is more for the Audience than the people playing, it’s really easy to look at the book that tells you what to do that is literally right in front of you, and if you practiced you don’t need anything but to hear the song from people around you
I love that, in these times, we have numerous great composers who all compete for greatness. But John Williams set the standard, and he set it very high.
He wrote this when he was 43 years old. Old enough to be admired for his willingness to totally buy into a universe which at that point stood in line with all kinds of variations of Flash Gordon. But also young enough to be admired for his ability to create something that archaic.
When I was in middle school, there was one year that the school band (of which I was a member) was invited to march in a local parade...a vote was held to decide whether the band would play the Imperial March or the "Rocky" theme during the parade. I was one of the (unashamedly nerdy) band members who voted for the Imperial March but the "Rocky" theme ended up winning the vote. I remember plodding along in the parade and noticing that nobody along the parade route seemed especially interested in the music we were playing. To this day I am convinced that the Imperial March would have invigorated that parade!
Yeah I heard Lucas say he was not sure this movie would work at all and was close to calling it when Williams showed him the score. Lucas said YEP this will be big!
This is for you James....wherever you are, my heart is filled by so much sadness today, but tempered with gladness at all you left us with, growing up with these incredible voices. ❤ Love always
I am turning 50 in 2020 and Star Wars and Empire where my childhood! I used to listen to this music every night before bed! Mr Williams will for ever be in my lifetime for me the greatest composer ! Without his music SW would never be the same! Thank you so much for making my childhood a better thing for making me relive the SW universe every night listening to this wonderful music.
Hearing the music in person is one thing, but seeing Darth Vader and several storm troopers walk out on stage while it's playing is just awesome. These shows must be an amazing experience. And you can't tell me that the people in the orchestra weren't crying tears of geekiness all over their instruments. Lol!
Imagine what it would be like to be one of the younger members of that orchestra and getting the call to perform that theme song. I can imagine you'd almost have an excitement induced heartattack
John Williams is, in my opinion, one of the greatest composers to ever live - he had such a unique style, and you can most certainly hear a lot of the "Imperial March" tones in the Harry Potter soundtracks.
No, you aren't. They were the most undisciplined bunch I've ever seen. I'd march them over the parade ground until they'd lose the heels of their boots. Their weekend would start Sunday at twentytwo-hundred.
“Impressive, most impressive.”-Darth Vader, 1980. John Williams never ceases to amaze us every time he played this track, I’m still not over this song the moment it plays in the end credits of Rise of Skywalker, the chills I’ve got while listening to it in the theaters was surreal. 👏👏👏👏💪💪💪💪😈😈😈😈.
This is in my opinion John Williams is my person favorite for a conductor, he has also made so much music it’s really cool to see him still doing good.
PERFECTION AT ITS BEST I LOVE JOHN WILLIAMS HES EXTREMELY TALENTED AND HUMBLE THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE ICONIC MUSIC YOU HAVE GIVEN US OVER THE YEARS JOB WELL DONE 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The genius of that man defies description. He literally translated an abstract concept like evil into a piece of sound with flawless precision. You don't need to have seen the movies to understand what this song is about. Such is Williams' impeccable brilliance as a musical communicator. There are very, very few people who deserve a star on the Hollywood walk of fame as much as this man.
Holy crap! Being a massive Star Wars fan from a very young age... watching this just now had me in tears but when the Stormtroopers and Vader came out, I lost it. Such a legendary piece from the legend who wrote it. It doesn't get any more epic than this.
