Note: (30/04/2023) This video is really poorly made as it was my first one, so apologies! My newer reductions are a bit better, go watch those instead!
My first go at a score reduction and analysis, of the end credits from the 1999 film, Angela's Ashes. It has always been one of my favourites. I apologise for any errors in the reduction and some of the odd stave spacing, I'll have it fixed next time.
**On the second page I say that the move from Eb to F# is a tone step which it's obviously not - my apologies.
**Bar 106 should say G major (not minor) - apologies again!
This video is inspired by the (much better) work of David McCaulley and Brad Frey, so please check them out below (if you haven't already).

- / bradfrey (Brad Frey)
Some relevant links from the analysis:
- Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis - Vaughan-Williams - • Vaughan Williams - Fan...
- Plenty of Fish and Chips in Heaven - • Angela's Ashes Soundtrack
- Back to America - • Angela's Ashes Soundtrack
(Theme B is also used wonderfully in "Looking for Work" - • Angela's Ashes Soundtrack )
- The article in which I found the quote from Williams: www.jwfan.com/...
I own nothing, enjoy!

@@patricksuiter Too much writing sorry I glazed over.. the other one is Book Thief, all these war-time scores share similarties but I think schindlers list still tops them.

@@TB1M1 No need to say sorry - totally my fault for so much waffle. Impossible to top Schindler’s List in my opinion - though I honestly think this genre of Williams’ output is criminally overlooked

At 2:10, I wonder if the director used Horner's main theme from "All The King's Men," as part of what he asked Mr. Williams to do. The music is so similar. Seriously, listen to the two themes.

I’d never heard that score but yes i hear the similarities. but, considering that movie came out after this one, it would be difficult to copy :P

@@patricksuiter, oh, I agree, I just wonder if maybe the director had used the temp track from Horner's theme to give Mr. Williams an idea of what mood or color he was looking for.

@@trevorjensen2706 Are you really that dense? Patrick literally gave you the answer and you still peddle your point! It would IMPOSSIBLE for Horner's melody to be used as a temp track for Angela's Ashes because Angela's Ashes was released over half a decade BEFORE All The King's Men was, so the piece wouldn't have been written yet.

@@beethockmtee8565, ah, I was thinking of a completely different score. Thank you for the correction! Now I wonder if HORNER took that melody and made it his own based on the director's possible temp track.
