I remember when I was a baby my dad would dance around with me and play this song I will love it forever then I freaked out when I heard it in red dead redemption also my dad's grandfather played and sang this song to my dad all the time.

This is real music, that red redemption game is not real, people SHOULD be remembering Johnny Cash, a REAL person and in my opinion one of the greatest people ever to walk this earth.
I think a more appropriate for The Man in Black is "Ain't No Grave". Even in the time of frivolous trends and great music lost to the sands of time, Johnny Cash still moves us to this day. And stop bickering about RDR. It was an amazing game and the version was good in there too. But regardless, to say this song is too light is to admit you don't understand melancholy. This song is about the bittersweet life and demise of a cowboy. Another treasure.

Why is everyone here posting about RDR :/ It's a Johnny Cash page. I loved RDR but this song was around long before the game so stop comparing the different versions. I love Cash and RDR, and yet my favourite version is the Sons of the Pioneers rendition.

Whitmore's version was much darker and sinister than Cash's, caused by the lack of instruments, in my opinion. It reflected Marston's journey through New Austin, and not the original premise of the song. Because of this, the two can not be compared, no matter which one you prefer.
I love cash, but i prefer the rdr version because it's linked to quite a powerfull moment for me. If i had heard each on their own before having played rdr then i probably would have preferred this one
