Clapton is in awe of these two. That's a cool thing to see. These days there are so few people that are as influential as him that aren't people he's known for decades. Perkins was a brilliant guitarist, underrated as hell.
Many people today don't know Cash helped many rock legends back in the day, they are reasons why people like Eric Clapton,U-2,Ringo Starr and Bob Dylan nick named Cash King of Music
I have said this before but we are so lucky to have stuff like this available at the click of a button. .. Three absolute legends of popular music together like that is just priceless
Don't know why, but the talking between Clapton and Cash is so respectful and and full of genuine appreciation for one another that it always brings a tear to my eye. I think I need to get out more...
I met Carl Perkins once. He watched a gig I was doing. When we spoke all he wanted to talk bout was my playing! What a humble man... rockin' Hillbilly Cat!
Jerry Perkins I'm guessing you are a relative, so l better say something nice. To be honest, as an Aussie teen from the '60's, l hadn't heard of Carl. But since l have used YT, l have learnt heaps about him, and what an enormous influence he was for many of the '60's artists, including the Beatles. Plus our own beautiful Tommy Emmanuel, speaks freely of his respect for Carl, and won an award named after Carl. So in a nutshell how could l not respect this pioneer musician, who also comes across as a very gracious man.
@@joshg2350 Yeah, Clapton could've retired after Cream and retained his legendary status. His most iconic works were recorded before he turned 30...that's just damn impressive.
@Pan Aaronowski I love Clapton 1970 -83 the most...live and studio.....he had Albert Lee from 79 -83.....Just One Night......they wailed....the expanded Derek and the Dominoes Live at the Fillmore.... the expanded E.C. Was Here...Croosroads 2 Live in the 70's....phenomenal....yeah he did some mellow and laid back tracks on album but Live he kicked it in the ass....saw him several times in that era .....
This is what I love about youtube.. I'm sitting here in Melbourne Australia on a rainy monday morning watching this fricken awesome video... from the Johnny Cash show 1971.
i remember my mom hollerin to me "eric claptons on tv!" i ran in the living room and got to see this fantastic song..i was 13 at the time and my favorite band was cream...thank you tube for giving me a fond memory!!
@@bluesdoggmusicrediker4614 & here it is again, but most probably not as good as you can play it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ea7zzvNmD90.html maybe say Hi
Amazing how Johnny was able to get all these icons on his show in a short time.Seen some other clips with Waylon Roger Miller the list goes on.These folks will be remembered forever.!
The look on Claptons face when Cash walks out is priceless. You can see he is Absolutely awe struck and I know Clapton and so many other Guitar Gods wanted to be just like Perkins. Talk about legendary!
His friend George Harrison loved Carl Perkins as well, when the silver Beatles went touring in Scotland , he took the name Carl Harrison because of Carl Perkins and Paul was Paul Ramon
Carl was a guitar technician to all of them, Page, Beck, Harrison, Clapton you name it. This episode incidentally was recorded about two months after his good friend Jimi passed.
The structure of Eric's playing is blues, which country has some roots in. Musically Eric's playing the major pentatonic scale, which is a lovely country/blues scale.
Carl approaching , an overjoyed, Clapton didn't go in for a hug , handshake , high five or fist bump ..just dipped his guitar as a salutation and salute.
He was a big landmark to me especially, because I am autistic and he was music therapy for me. When I was 6 months old I had headphones placed on my head with his music playing through them, and basically it was the only thing that would soothe me. Also if it weren't for him and his music, I probably would have been slower in learning things like talking and reading. He was great. We miss you Johnny. RIP.
@caroline bjerkelund "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Matchbox" were songs by Carl Perkins, both being Elvis' first hits as Carl was recovering from a bad car accident at the time. When a car crash rewrote the script of the R&R history. "Car Crash" ... a good title for a good blues song on the R&R history .
I some times wish I could of lived in this time when musicans made real music and the media wasnt filled with crap for our children and the styles of dancing where clean . This song rocks thanks for the upload Hank Hamm ! I listen to it every day and play along with it !
Hearing Carl Perkins playing especially his solo I can definitely hear the influence he had on George Harrison early Beatles work & Eric being close friends with Harrison that would have been a blast for Clapton playing on stage with legends who paved the way for the British Invasion
PedroMO7U He had a weekly TV show for nearly 2 years, and he had some incredible guests. Check out Cash's duet with Tony Joe White on Polk Salad Annie.
@littlechoppers and I love youtube because I get to hear about littlechoopers sitting in Melbourne Australia on a rainy monday morning watching the awesomness of Mr.Perkins, Mr.Cash and Mr.Clapton when I'm doing the exact same thing in the USA. My regards to your excellent musical taste my friend.
I was lucky enough to have put this and a couple other guitars together for Carl back in the 70`s when I worked at a guitar factory in Maryland also got to pick with him a couple times , He was a great guy ! I miss him
Not many players had the class of carl . You can see Eric is in Awe and loves them both . Still like Eric though . He has been through alot in his life and so glad he is still with us today
@@carolinebjerkelund767Blue Suede Shoes and this Matchbox also. Both being Elvis' first hits as Carl was recovering from a bad car accident at the time. When a car crash rewrote the script of the R&R history. "Car Crash" ... a good title for a good blues song on the R&R history .
