Johnny Costa plays gospel, jazz, or classical? | Hear Johnny Costa improvise for Mr. Rogers Visit Website: seanwilsonpiano.com MIDI File: gumroad.com/l/tAUCi
Thank you for this analysis! Costa was one of the greatest musicians ever. I have always loved how he infused classical sounds (particularly the impressionist) with jazz, but he did so without erasing the original African American language that truly defines jazz. Many jazz musicians play jazz with western classical harmonies at the expense of traditional jazz/blues/gospel sounds, but Costa made sure to include it all. His style was inclusive of many people's musics, just as Mister Rogers was inclusive of all people.
+Paulson Jeanty me too man, it was shaking your ears back then cause he refused to play “kiddie-like” or dumb it down for the kids. So who knows how much that shaped a lot of us...
I would love to ear the story of how you learn how to play piano, your ups and downs in your musical carrie. Could you make a short video on that someday?
Johnny Costa was a beast on piano! But be careful. You may have to strap yourself in before you listen. Like all the greats before us, decoding and exposing the DNA of his genius is way more than anyone can handle..
I think this is correct. The Gospel influences in Costa's playing come via the Tatum influence. We can hear Tatum doing these same things in the 30's thru 50s.
however Costa benefited from the fact that he had a longer career that incorporated more things than just Tatum. The influence is unmistakable but there's so much more than just Tatum when Costa plays
Liked and subscribed! Thanks Sean for this amazing content. I gotta ask, the input looks almost instantaneous from the mp3 is that you playing or is there a way to input mp3 to Chordie? If it is in fact you playing I'm sorry to have doubted your skills. I'm just really interested in the concept because I have Chordie and if there were a way to input mp3 to it I would seriously pay you for a zoom session to figure it out. It would help my transcribing a lot. Anyways thanks for all you do!
What's the best affordable MIDI controller that's at least 49 keys.. I'd probably like 72 or 76 whatever it is best but 88 isn't necessary. Thanks. Anything for under like $300 or around there
@@SeanWilsonPiano Thanks for a quick reply, toots. I had an M-Audio one at one point actually was a gift for my brother. It was pretty good so thought I'd ask in part to see if you would bring up that brand. Good then :) I'll get another one. Peace thanks again for the nice video.
Here's another "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" episode for you, #1463 ("Goes To School" week). Listen to how Johnny Costa plays "Everybody's Fancy." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-58FvEyo2jss.html
