I teach gospel musicians to develop their own sound by studying other musicians.
The work of reproducing what another musician has already performed is called transcribing. The best way for a musician to develop their own "voice" is by transcribing and analyzing the musicians you most admire. Many musicians do not always have to time to figure out difficult passages and chords by ear. My channel saves you time by figuring out chords and theory for you and breaking it down in a way that is easy to understand.
I love your videos you got a real gift to transcribe and play that well I’m a beginner who learned some intermediate stuff and thought it was good enough your channel gave me motivation to hone my skill start from the beginning & achieve mastery.. shoutouts Sean Wilson shout out Dom Brice 2 amazing humble players
You just changed my mind about how I think about hearing chords. Of course you can hear it but if it’s not relatable i.e in your vocabulary, how would you understand it!
The first video I ever saw of Corey and I’ve been hooked ever since! She told him he’d be famous one day and it came to past, one of the greatest to ever do it!
Cory’s been playing in church since he was a toddler. You can’t pay for what he has. Nothing like complete immersion. Of course, it helps to be innately gifted.
is it just me, or whenever i watch sean breakdown chord structures and how the harmony functions, even if its a 30 min vid it feels like just a 5 min video?
I first tried to learn the modes of the 8 note bebop scale which drove me crazy and I ignored this scale for years. Later I came back after refreshing my perspective on it as the 6th diminished scale instead of the bebop view, and it was less confusing. Realizing it as just literally a 6th and a diminished (and their inversions) made me see it for the elegant weaving of major and functional diminished that it is. I'm cynical of diminished because it's a wonderful musical alphabet but people tend to only spell one word with it (diminished seventh moving in minor thirds) and that bored my snobby mind, but the 6th diminished is so wonderful in that it makes the diminished accessible, and blends perfectly with the fundamental major scale. Fantastic ideas to explore.
What is the theory behind his 2-5-1 fluid harmony? You said you need to play without thinking , but thats not what Cory's doing. All the greats have to put in time and effort for things to appear effortless
Heavy Anointing ❤ Every Black Son should be exposed to music and how to play the keyboard. It’s in our blood. Keep kids outta jail. No other race has this musical acumen. Praise Jesus Christ for you Sean.
This is great example of how we do "musicking" in the black church. All of the country, after a gospel concert, a young guy is gonna hop on organ and get put to the test 😂
That movement over the two five one... I'm like at least Sean had the nerve to try that. That's ridiculous. I just as lost 16 years later as I was then.
I think that's the Connecticut to NY hybrid I hear. Entrenched with the tri-tones/diminished and augmented. I always remember to play two chords one whole step apart, but play alternative voices with it. Then if you can, play some weird out of pocket third with the bass; hardly ever play the 1. Its weird. That's that connecticut/north-eastern/chicago USA sound; they favor it alot. One of my (white) vocal teachers in opera used to say "the devil's chords" every time I'd practice playing that style of chords. Its like turn everything into a passing chord. Its very weird to hear. Some people don't like listening to it at some churches. Especially some of the (white) methodist churches and mormans. The white orthodox churches loved it. I was the token black kid that was friends with everybody and was considered the exotic guy. Black baptists is a hit or miss with this. Cogic and the fast learners love it.
