Johnny Crawford discusses his work with Chuck Conners and "The Rifleman". He also tells us about his latest musical ventures. Interview was conducted at the 2014 Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention in Hunt Valley, MD. He also sings for us.
Great interview that brought out completely new and pertinent information. Sounds like Johnny had excellent parents, who simultaneously nurtured him and kept him away from trouble in the business. He seems like a precious man.
I did, and he was. He was an incredible talent all through the years, and it was incredibly sad seeing him fade away. Fortunately, this interview caught him not long before things started downhill. I don't believe I talked with him once that started.I had, not that long ago, watched my mom fade away of the same issue. Horrible, frightening, and frustrating stuff. I've heard that Johnny was happy right up to the end, so that's a plus. After all he gave us, he deserved to be happy.
He should have gotten a life achievement award for being such a nice guy in a business where that’s unheard of. And he did some wonderful songs. I’m not bragging but I’m happy to say I’ve got two things in common with this wonderful man. In my first movie I played a guy named Johnny and in my second movie Chuck Conners played my father. Now if I could act and was as nice as he was back then I would have gone somewhere. But since I wasn’t its back in the unemployment line.😭
Johnny is such an engaging person that it seems to me that you can't help but like the guy. And as I watch this interview and try to imagine him as a kid named Mark McCain, it's kind of like seeing my own life flash before my eyes....
What a wonderfully modest man. After years of being ignored by the Hollywood elitists, Mr Crawford can still enjoy meeting fans and interacting with them. Enjoyed the video!
I've watched this interview about 15 times now and I have met Johnny 3 times in my life. He was an idol of mine from the time I was 8 years old. It's so sad now that he is ill and not able to speak due to Alzheimer's disease. I love going back to his interviews and seeing him healthy and happy.
Johnny Crawford was talented & humble, his voice was sweet & soothing. I love his work on The Rifleman, he & Chick Conners had great chemistry Rest in Peace Johnny 🙏
A true entertainer. He’s so in his element talking about music and so comfortable talking about his past. Not a single pretentious bone in his body. What a cool guy!!!!
... there was a fellow off the microphone speaking, he & Johnny were speaking about some musician between them, but I didn't catch the name. Were they talking about Rudy Valee, or Burl Ives ? Great Interview btw ... !
@John Cowie I haven't got the link, but if you look up "How The West Was Fun," you'll find a TV special from the early '70s that I KNOW you'll enjoy. Bobby is one of the guys doing the commentary between segments of the show. It's fairly recent (maybe two or three years?).
Aww... What a great interview! I had no idea just how talented Johnny Crawford was! I'm So Impressed! Such a beautiful, sweet voice he had! Rest in Peace, Johnny! ❤️🙏✨
This "interview" was unfortunately marred by poor camera work and even worse "interviewer". I wish they would at least have gotten someone who knew how to use the microphone and conduct a more engaging interview. Johnny Crawford was delightful and very gracious despite being subjected to an amateur (and cringy) interview. Miss you Johnny.
I had a big crush on TV cowboys from kindergarten onward but Mark McCain had my greatest respect. Each time he sang on the Rifleman and especially the first time in an episode, his beautiful voice stunned me. There was nothing to dislike about his role or his character in real life. He made everyone feel appreciated.
The interviewer doesn't realize that she needs to speak into the microphone. Hard to watch because you detect the hesitation plus he has fooled himself into thinking he can sing.
What a wonderful interview, Mr. Crawford the perfect gentleman, very soft spoken and very proper, it was so good to see him, much was learned about him. 🎤🎵🤠❤
Went to this show. It was my first time going . Saw it on the news and ran down there. Also met Jeff Conners. Chucks son and held one of the original rifles from the show. Rest in peace to all now. Been to every show since.
Johnny I am a fan that look forward to watching all the rifleman shows every Saturday morning and weekdays ...I love westerns...u drew up to be a very handsome man too...love love u... and your song rumors and some others.
This seems like such an awkward interview to me. She barely got to say anything, & Mr. Crawford kept rambling like he'd never been interviewed over this same subject manner dozens of times!
