I cannot believe how EVERYTHING is illegal in California these days! We did it all as kids. Jumping, surfing at night, bonfires at night and crashing all night on the sand. Sooti'n the Pier, drinking at night on the sand, (or day for that matter) and NEVER had to pay for parking!!

Early 80s it wasn't totally uncommon but they sent the boat over if u did. On the N.Side during a big south swell there was a giant rope tied to the railing because of the current. Only the guy that put it there got to use it lol.

it's a good video. maybe he wanted like a low-key sneak around the back of Ruby's vid and was thrown off by the crowd and adrenaline, and the way you were drawing attention to him. that swell looks substantial.
@@o0GrayMatters0o Another buddy, Tom pushed out his bicycle with a surfboard carrier way before Johnny walked out on the pier. So not to draw attention to him. Tom dropped off the surfboard behind Ruby's and left the pier. Johnny is well known and he would of drew attention if he carried to surfboard out.
@@DanoLive right on. In 2nd grade Micah Byrne and I were close friends. He went out with his dad one time and asked me if I wanted to go surfing with him. I was a skater, and I passed. Talk about _regrets_ - I would've been right out there with 'em jumpin' off. I also went to school with a lot of dudes that competed (and won) the HB Open. I'm basically a bro without a board.
@@o0GrayMatters0o some choices we make we never know until later the impact. I tried surfing in Daytona Beach when I was a child. Waves small and never got up on the board. Move to Socal in my early twenties and wished I had some experience. Was too busy with school and then business to try again. Made excuses over the years. So now I photograph em and cover pro events.
Trogg . you know he's right , sharks have no problem swimming in 3' of water. People have hooked sharks fishing of the pier . The thing is if their happened to be one around when Rocky Denises brother jumped in . The splash would spook it . Not that the guy in the video is thinking about that Enyway. If you surf on a regular basis then believe me . You understand that at eny time you can easily become some sharks food. But if you start trippn on all the places that sharks may or may not be. Your going to never get wet. Because the truth is sharks ar every where. You can be swimming in a fresh water river and find a Bullshark swimming up ur wake. So ya, knife guy is right , its just nobody wants to think about it .
