DiCaprio was spectacular in the way he handled the role but he didn't tarnish Depp. His perfectly understated performance of the repressed and slightly dark character formed the soul of the movie and carried it.
This great film could have been real classic of Mystery/Thriller genre - intriguing and interesting storyline, great acting, awesome ending. Johnny Depp was great as always. Heather Graham did a good job too. Ian Holm ('Alien', 'The Fifth Element') was special as villain

Hardcore from hell novel fans hated this movie it changes the source material for example in the novel jack the ripper is the main character he's not a mystery like in the film.
