The eternal struggle for balance. Anti-establishment verses the paleo-conservative. Johnny sometimes calls Arthur Carlson 'A.C.'. At the end of the last episode he shortened it to Ace. A minor detail, but it stood out
The encounter with Fever and Mrs. Carlson is probably one of the best moments of the series. Showing that Fever can be a great gutter fighter when he puts his mind to it. Bravo. And I always loved Ian Wolfe as Hirsch. "Madam! Your physician is here!" And then Hirsch rushes out with that wonderful smile on his face. Love it!
Can’t remember the episode but Mrs.C had a guest over and ordered Hirsch to make coffee and instead of making her the usual swill he made an epic pot😆!
@@johnschaefer2238 I don't either, but I do remember Mrs C complimenting Hirsch on the coffee and asking why he didn't make that normally. Hirsch replied, "Well, Madame, today, we had guests in the house." Leaving Mrs C a little put-out. 😆😆
I once, long ago had a button made up that simply read “Deeply Warped”. I wore it through my teenage years. I wish I still had it today. Thanks for the memory.
Nowadays instead of a button that would be a tattoo in a prominent place. May as well go all the way and do the whole line: So deeply warped even I get it. Bet that'd be quite a conversation starter.
Thanks for this post. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I hadn't thought of this series in years. I forgot how funny & ahead of it's time it was, RIP Dr. Fever. Thanks again. 🙏
You’re welcome. I guess kids now days would think it all pretty ancient, phones with cords and big vinyl discs. Funny that we all still like the music.
@@DaveNarn Musically, I still live in the 70s & 80s. As a matter of fact, I never left. I've acquired other musical... 'flavors' along the way, but the 70s & 80s tunes are never far away. I think this is where Dr. Johnny & I would've been on the same page. One thing, though, digging back into this series... It's fascinating how much society bought into the Loni Anderson brand. She was gorgeous, & that voice was angelic. But, that 80s hair.... 2 hours to do her, I bet. (I know from experience. My old girlfriend, back in the early 90s, was still carrying her 80s hair with her. Took her 1½ hours to do her hair, then it couldn't be touched until the end of the night. 🤣)
@@waden9815 Lol, I hear ya. Musically I live anywhere but now, real talent and originality is scarce. And that's being nice. Used to be I could press the search button once or twice on my radio and find a great tune, now it'd take a half hour to find something good.
@@DaveNarn after everyone leaves: Mrs Carlson: “Hirsch, this coffee is delicious”. Hirsch: “That’s because we have company Madame. When it’s just you and me, the recipe is a little different”. No one could play Hirsch the Ian Wolfe did.
Travis, "I'am dating Mrs Carlson," Fever, " his mother or his wife," Travis, "his mother, what kind of a guy do you think I am. " Love that back and forth. Funny. I am still laughing.
WKRP in Cincinnati was one of the best sitcoms that had a radio station as its center for laughs. From 1978-1982 it was filled with huge laughs. Unfortunately, the show was moved around a few times that it lost most of its viewers. The idiots who program the time slots in Hollywood sure know how to kill a show. Thanks for uploading this...great memories 👍
Some of my fondest memories were of those unexpected and well-timed comic interludes courtesy of several class clowns. Provided a welcome break from extremely dry and boring or intense material.
@@Itelkner ....God love the goofballs in this world.....we so need them for comic relief. Long ago, I worked with a very reserved, polite young guy who attended Mass weekly.....and he turned out to be one of most hysterically funny, goofy, wacky guys I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.
Thank You! I love Johnny making Mrs. Carleson know what it feels like to be a worm on a hook. I love the last section, even if it was a bit rough to see.
Glad you liked it. The last section was from the final episode. I’ve seen a lot of the full episodes uploaded on youTube. But Fox had a copyright block on that one, maybe due to one of the actors in a scene - I don’t know. WKRP could have gone on four more years.
You're welcome. Mrs Carlson’s profit and loss lecture sounds more like the network axing WKRP 4 years ahead of it’s normal run. Prophetic, I wonder if the writers saw it coming?
@@DaveNarn Seems like you can kinda get the idea of a rough ride coming when you're riding high and the network idiots start moving the show around so people can't find it. I'm glad this ep was the finale, as it turned out, bc it was a perfect ending.
@@echoecho3108 the head of cbs didn't like ed asner (Lou Grant) and howard hessman being activists. so they separated the shows, so they would both do badly and have a reason to cancel both. unfortunately it worked.
@@ralph0901 That sux. Such stupidity. It always boils down to politics. Too many good, no, make that great, shows got killed bc of network idiocy, and crap shows live on. So sad.
Check out the carpet in the offices, I’d forgotten how popular the color orange was back then. Sunset orange, Harvest gold, and Avocado green everywhere.
Avocado green had been around since the late sixties/early seventies. Surprised it lasted as long as it did, considering these tones were so reminiscent of Fall.
Good stuff! I like how Johnny Fever was able to save the station and save the relationship between mother and son that was about to dissolve . I missed these eps as a kid
Jennifer letting Johnny caress her leg while both sip rotgut hooch. Mmm hmmm... And that knowing smile of hers at 3:09 when everyone thinks she's distracted by her book. Jennifer ran that place!
The Banter between Hirsch and Mother Carlson was always so fantastic. Carol Bruce and Ian Wolfe. did wonderful scenes together. two Pros that is for sure
Hirsch (Ian Wolfe) stole the show tormenting Mama Carlson (Carol Bruce) the few times he was featured. I have the complete series on DVD; always binge-worthy even though some of the music is not original.
One of the best shows ever written for tv funny gags humor no special effects and that the way it was back in the day love all the people on the show even less and herbs wife great memories from back in the day
That last scene, one of the last of the entire series, has always been one of my favorites. It gives the entire premise of the show so much authenticity. And being forced to give it the rabbit ears effect made me feel like I was in my dorm room 40 years ago. :) Thanks for the upload.
I agree. There has never been a tv show with this kind of depth, writing, you name it. I really was not a comedy per se......all of the the things you see in episodes happened in real life at various radio stations. It was a true crime when it got canceled, and the network knew it.
Of course, the last episode was actually a retcon of the entire series up to this point. The whole premise was to increase ratings and make money. That’s why they originally brought in the Andy Travis character and changed the format. In the end it was essentially revealed that the station kept all those ridiculous characters because they wanted the ratings to be bad and to lose money. Interestingly, they also did something of a similar retcon to the backstory of the Venus Flytrap / Gordon Simms character during the series.
Let’s not forget that other 70’s gem Taxi! Remember Jim taking the test for his license at DMV? “ What do you do when there’s a yellow light?” That had me in tears!
KRP was the funniest show ever. Watch some old comedies and they seem dated. KRP is still hilarious! Perfect casting. Nobody in this show could be anyone other than who they are.
I’ve got the DVD box-set from Shoutfactory. RU-vid blocks a most of the episodes with guest stars. I tried to upload the episode of Mr. Carlson putting coke in his shoes instead of foot powder. YT blocked the whole thing because of the guest star.
Hey user you killed me that one Steve McGarret’s hair. Don’t know if you’re a 50 fan but in 50’s first episode an actress named Nancy Malone played McGarret’s sister. She was from Queens Village NY. My mom and her were friends. She starred as Paul Burke’s girlfriend in that show. Boy was TV great in the 50’s through the early 2000’s!
