How not when those of us that know he is an amazing vocalist give him his flowers. Those of us who know his addition to NE turned the group into grown men. So how doesn’t he get his just due? Who’s validation will solidify JG’s greatness?

Yep, and that’s because it was hooked up by Jam & Lewis. When you have established artists like that, it makes sense to trust them enough to give them creative freedom. Imagine if they simply had Jam & Lewis just oversee the music on that album…

Almost all record labels owned the artists publishing, it sucks, but Puffy wasn't the 1st or last to do it...

This is not news. We've been knowing this from the days of him working with Stacy Lattisaw...

publishing aint shit, tbh. if Puff REALLY wanted to make a major move, regardless of motive, he would have given everyone their masters. THEN that would have been a big deal. there is some $ in publishing. but you get those masters, and pair it with the publishing, and then you are cooking with crisco. Slim and Mike moving the 112 brand forward, Daron should be trying to rebuild the bridge there. Thats part of their drama in itself. But im not surprised. Daron has a lot of production credits on Bad Boy, so he has been getting paid a little bit differently over the years than the rest of the fellas. also, another issue within the group, earned or not.

I love that track and they do themselves a disservice by not performing it because that’s one of their best songs in my opinion! It would be great in concert with their stage presence!

Good Morning. Thanks for sharing this information. N.E. revealed that they wanted more tracks by Jam and Lewis but Puffy refused claming that there wasn't enough money in the budget. Jam and Lewis even offered to give them the tracks free of charge but Puffy refused. I feel that after Hot 2 Nite the label could have released other songs including All On You, Start Turnin Me On and Come Home With Me as follow ups

@@rashawnda-professor2999 because Puff knew if NE (on Bad Boy) blew again, and due to the tracks from Jam/Lewis and not those from Ryan Leslie, Stevie J, D-Dot, etc.......than that would sort of be a slap in the face to the in house Bad Boy production team (in Puff's head) and thus making them look worthless. Then other acts would want the same type of deal, earned or not. Because then the recipe would be set. I get it. but at the same time.......Puff was foolish here. Thats NE. you gotta let NE.......BE NE. and there was plenty of room for all of the tracks. This is why Bad Boy is bad boy.......and why labels like Interscope.......Republic.........Empire.........The Orchard............are the way they are. They allow their artists to be themselves. That album had a good 4-5 singles on it, if done right and in the proper order. Imagine if that same album, unreleased tracks and all, was done independently or on J Records or something, back then. That album would have shot sky high.

Not a terrible album but it felt like two different albums. Half New Edition and the other half Bad Boy. Just didn’t quite work.

I agree, from what I understand though the production was a challenge for NE members, they wanted to stick with the “formula” of Jam and Lewis who Puffy had a personal issue with and thought he could package them like 112 or Day26 but those were NEW artists which Bad Boy developed, NE didn’t need that, Puffy was too self centered to see the flaws

@@chadholmes5599 in the short version, yep. i understood Puff's stance, regardless of his silly issues with Jam/Lewis, but he was foolish to try to mess with the NE formula too crazily. the album is nice.......but he dropped the ball on the push. it could have been better, and it surely could have been bigger. essentially, only die hard NE fans got it. and the majority of them likely downloaded it illegally or got a burnt copy. had puff done it right, bad boy fans would have gotten it, and some other demographics too.

Ryan Leslie joint, likely wasnt originally meant for 112. But 112 went to def jam, and Puff tried to fight that too. But Lyor Cohen was over there ready to crush Puff over that. It took Clive to somewhat step in and broker peace and compromise in that situation. and part of me feels like that was the only reason Puff wanted to do business with NE anyway. Lets get one of the biggest groups of all time to crush 112 then.......thinking they were ungrateful or something. then you get NE and you begin clashing with them too. shit, NE should have went to def jam too lol.

I like Alexander O'Neal and he has quite a few great songs. I also like Kci Haley as far as turn of the century singers. Check out the song Perfect with JG and Ralph.

​@finessnu2903Man I love Alexander O'Neal. He can do uptempo as well as slow jams. I'm just happy Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis still hooked him up with songs to sing. The group The Time with Alexander as lead would have killed. But would we even know who Morris Day is if Alexander didn't leave the group ?. Johnny is right up there also. His runs are unmatched in my opinion.

JG is 'Top Shelf ' no doubt!...but my ole skool roots put Donny Hathaway at the top of the list...

@@ultimategaming1441 the beats that were used on majority of it sounded like the BBD Album from 2001 I felt it didn’t represent new edition “start turning me on yeah Ralph leads it but it sounds more like a BBD beat” I felt the songs bad boy did minus love again were more on the BBD side even if Ralph or Johnny were leading it didn’t represent their voices tracks like “come home with me rewrite the memories” are songs that better represent New Edition as a whole but I felt if you took Ralph & johnnys voice off majority of the bad boy produced tracks it would essentially be a BBD album shit they even preformed “hot tonight” as BBD 😂😂 It’s not a bad Album but in my opinion as I was listening to it I was just like puffy lowkey wanted BBD more than New Edition

lol thats funny. But my guess was that it was one of the Tyson vs Razor Ruddock fights of the early 90s. and truth be told, possibly a Sugar Ray Leonard fight, late in his career. It was said that JG and Sugar Ray were pretty good friends at the time.

Yea but there’s something funny about artists and their sonic brand: always a hit or miss when artists stray too far from the sound and style they’re known for. Only a few like Ye succeed with that. Look at what happened to Snoop’s career after Dre left Deathrow. It was pretty unstable until he linked back up with Dre in 99-2000 era. In contrast, look at Kendrick’s career: he went from pure TDE to Aftermath, but Dre let him keep his whole team, and they got even better and grew organically with the sound, concepts and all.

They're not a rock band. We need the RRHOF to stop bringing in who is popular and stick to Rock and Roll. That would easily clear out 85% or more of the current membership.

I know New Edition Isn't a rock band. I'm 51 years old so I'm old enough to know where rock and roll originated from, which was from blues and rhythm and blues. And since New Edition is a r and b group, that makes them totally qualified to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Now there are a lot of artists, from Cheap Trick to Percy Sledge to the Mamas and the Papas who in my opinion shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame, especially Dolly Parton. So I agree with you that at least 85 percent of the artists that are in the Hall of Fame shouldn't be in there.

Puff tried to replace 112 (whom he essentially lost to Lyor Cohen at Def Jam) with the ultimate: NE. and wound up clashing with them, mismanaging them in the process due to another political issue he had with Jam/Lewis. Puffy's batting average in the 2000s muscially........weird. had alot of hits. should have had likely triple the amount.
