With the tensions going on in the world. All the world leaders should be sent a copy of this inspirational record. The Message is in the Music. Robert from Manchester
I think those tensions are bad. I mean, if something is stretched too far, it sooner or later cracks. So they should loosen up those ties that bind them“

Especially those leaders who have enough weapons to impose their interests and resolve any dispute by force. Regards from Argentina.
No. The world leaders know exactly what they want and act accordingly. Reminders are acts of foolish futility. Indeed they are merely reserved for the artistic types.
Oh, send me off to war With a gun in my hand But I won't pull the trigger Our destiny is here Beneath the red, white and blue So lead me to the slaughter Now don't be afraid Come and join the parade For the ultimate in sacrifice It's an old-fashioned story Of hope and of glory A ticket for taking a life I, I don't want to be a hero I don't want to die for you I don't want to be a hero Oh send me off to war In a far away land I never knew existed Subject me to the truth To the horror and pain Until my mind is twisted And what if I fail Will you put me in jail For a murder I will not commit? 'Cause you don't understand Till there's blood on your hands That it's time to forget and forgive I, I don't want to be a hero I don't want to die for you I don't want to be a hero And those who return Come back only to learn That they're hated by those who they love 'Cause you're not satisfied Till a thousand have died And your anger is paid for in blood I, I don't want to be a hero I don't want to die for you I don't want to be a hero
Give me the 80's any day over all the trash that's out today! You can keep Beyonce and the rest. I'll take a Flock of Seagulls , Johnny hates Jazz , Simply Red , Wham , Crowded House , etc. 80's rock!!
Comparing with 80's music, like a compare between Heaven and Earth. We absolutely was lived in the Heaven of music in 80's century. But now we live in the Earth with these Hell's.........

I thought this was a romantic song as always, but it's really political! If you could hear clearly more than the chorus part it would be very refreshing on the radio with a positive political message amidst all the meaningless romantic shit songs out there. :-)
I know idea about the lyrics here. Thus is an incredibly well written song if this written by Lennon or George Micheal or Freddie it would be rightfully celebrated. It is a shame it is not. JHJ where a great group
This era still cold war I belive that in turn created fun music to lighten mood, upbeat songs like this with serious lyrics, and good slower songs. In a way fear of war brought out the artists and passion.
Because you needed genuine talent back then - something that is still present today but diluted by the not-so-good artists who hide behind autotune & production tricks. Notice how songs had lots of different sections back then? 50% of today's output is just the same thing looped over & over. Jingles as opposed to songs.
@@MGrayl-ib5fo 100% This seems to have happened since the turn of the millennia. During the 1990s there were still some great bands creating their awesome songs. For example - Roxette and Bryan Adams.
Possibly the best anti-war song from a time when the UK wasn't at war. I know far too many school/college friends that will never return home from wars that few of them really understood.
Great song! I wish there were more songs like this nowadays. I'd gotten used to that kind of music when I my father played almost every day. I am so grateful for this!
***** While I do like some electronic music today, I agree. I've listened to some dubstep, glitch hop, and trance tracks (among other styles) and loved them, but a lot of the mainstream dance music you hear today (often mimicking the dubstep sound and formula) are just cliche sounding and bland in comparison. :/
***** The music from the 80's came from the heart and was talent ! most people who know good test will agree one thing , 80's will never die. even the 90's was fun, these years people used to buy records & CD's in stores the music was alive , music officially dead when the 90's over ,today's music is trash - all kind . it even not worth to download it for free ! the end . Thanks :)
+HobbitLOTRFilmLover Yes-and worse, msuic has been this way for at least 2 decades now-and always will be. You can never go back-except for your sanity.
+Kyach Distent In 1989 I was glued to MTV Europe every day and absorbed everything. I do remember how in fact the music DID change practically overnight when we got into 1990! In december Maiken Wexo did the Rewind show to sum up each year of the past decade and then the 80s were over. Suddenly we got Stone Roses and Milltown Brothers where we used to have Level 42 and ABC. I always suspected that it was not really music per se that changed but the agenda-setting folks at MTV decided it was time for a change and started to promote a more gritty kind of music such as alternative rock and 'legalize-it' rap-crap (I think Ray Cokes was a heavy smoker). Then technology got cheap and accessible which enabled musically illiterate DJs to make music of their own (I did too) and the house/techno scene exploded and melody and harmony got way watered down as a result. I remember all the most stupid kids in my school loved it like a revelation. MTV had a huge influence at the time. They could make or break an artist. A couple of examples: Despite watching every night, I only saw the video of Propaganda: Heaven Give Me Words played TWICE ever and Love And Money: Halleluiah Man I only saw ONCE (when Coca Cola Report did a short segment on them). (I ran out and bought both albums, still gems). Did you know there was a video for Jan Hammer: Crocketts Theme? I only saw it once as well (an obnoxious house remix). Take it from me, a music nerd kid of the time. Today I'm (still) a studio musician geek mostly listening to modern jazz and film music (I think my film score collection is among the biggest in Sweden)
+ElkundEklund I know what youre saying, although my personal experience tells me that the 80s died toward the end of 1990. 1991 was the real start of the music revolution. I know Happy MOndays and all that began getting airtime in 1990 but that year still had huge 80s influence. I recall it here in the UK that as soon as 1991 kicked in, the 80s vanished almost immediately. I remember feeling sad that Top of the Pops were now playing a lot more weird, alternative stuff. I hated Nirvana at the time and didnt understand how this could possibly have been better than the glory days of the eighties. The fact is they weren't but many of us had to embrace the new wave stuff as we got older. Nothing will beat the 80s no matter how many millions of albums Kurt Kobain sells.
+StartabandRoxy Clever, isn't it? For musicians to put across a serious message in what, melody-wise, sounds upbeat and very nice, I think they're applying intelligence and making good use of their position in the media.
+StartabandRoxy I had never payed attention to the lyrics until your mention; amazing its absolutely saddening; should be such a contemporary crie of peace; pick the nation
Musica bella, facce belle , vestiti bene , nessun tatuaggio.
What do you mean this is an anti America song. Only this country gives you the right to say such outrageous things about it that’s why America is great.
Came here from a video called "BRIXMIS 1988" ... they blasted this (amongst other songs from "Now That's What I Call Music 10") in their Mercedes G-Wagen while driving through east Germany
January 2024. I wish I could go back to the 80's knowing what I know now. Greatest time, no mobiles, tablets, internet. What a lovely time to be growing up.
nice song about the horror of war. A soldier that doesn't want to fire his guns against people and a land he doesn't even know to spell. Something ALL OF US should reflect on
Naw m8, actually about a guy who discovers the feminine biological imperative of "trading up" in partners. It's been this long now: do you recognize the pattern of being called into a fight you'd rather have no part of? Just have a look at old Popeye cartoons and it theoretically becomes even more mathematically undisprovable. Enjoying PlenyOfFish yet?
Not really lots of young girlie's listened to this in the 80s and didn't look too deeply into it and just thought what a dishy bloke Clark Datchler was! Seriously see it for what it is.
Armies often recruit young, and younger still when they can't get recruits (see: the US Army). They rely on bright-eyed youthful enthusiasm raised on the glorified spiel of patriotism and honor. It's no coincidence that many veterans are AGAINST the reckless use of war, and that the current generation is becoming harder and harder to recruit - they're more exposed to the reality of war, and how most countries don't actually love a soldier when they return, only when they're out there risking their lives for a politician's promises. Most soldiers who have seen battle wish for a world without one. It's a blood-soaked arena where nobody wins. The "victors" live with dreams of their dead brothers and sisters, and even the people they have gunned down. It's more difficult to live with killing than most people realize, even people who you might see as "enemies".
I purchased this album when it came out.. I was a fann of the band.. and still am.. I was in the Army at the time - 1989... Then I learned I was going to be deployed to IRAQ (gulf war)... I did not want to be a hero... But i was going to pull the trigger. That was my job. i had no questions about it.... i still like the song
I was a Junior in High School when this came out... (Leysin American School) Shout out to Shoba from Florida - Just in case you ever see this. _it was her favorite band at the time_
Absolutely fantastic as some of other songs from the same team. Keep in mind, that was the time of great style which included fashion, presentation and synth pop. Analog synthesizers and other instruments added icing to the cake of wonderful and unforgettable lyrics and voices. Comparing to 2023 which is nothing less than a garbage, 80's are time to remember forever!! Even though I like Jazz, I will settle for Hates Jazz anytime. Thank you for such wonderful music, I miss you!!!
