I believe Johnny is also the first character to canonically have his own vehicle in the series that was not given to him during a later mission. That being his iconic Hexer.

Franklin I think had a development in understanding why the high life of a criminal isn’t what it’s cracked up to be and as much as you can distance yourself from the hood, it’ll always find a way to come back. For sure. Rockstar is capable of writing amazing stories (gta 5 included) but the way they handled Johnny’s death was so lazy and cheap. It’s like they needed to hype up the Trevor since he’s the new character and yet they could have done that anyway without having to turn another character into a bitch to make Trevor seem tougher
Ashley was on the pipe pretty hard.. even though Jonny seemed composed at the end of the game she eventually took over his life and he became addicted to meth as well ...
Imagine if you played Lost & Damned/Ballard of Gay Tony, before the Main storyline...you just hear about and catch glimpses of Nico, wondering just who this badass is. Then you get to play his side of the tales, and it all falls into place.
Imagine he wasnt a crack addict when he was facing off Trevor, it would've been so much more interesting maybe even forming a bit of friendship between them

Seriously. Whilst the way Rockstar handled his death was poorly executed (pun intended), I do think it's at least believable that he become an addict because of her.
Replaying TLAD makes me realize how alike Johnny Klebitz was to John Marston. He was trying to run an outdated gang, they were being watched by the cops, and the guy he was following turned against him. It sucks that Terry, Clay, and Johnny have to die so horribly, they could have ended with them helping the GTA online protagonist but they absolutely destroyed the characters and what they stood for.
Johnny was smart and dumb enough. Smart enough to actually see his chapter getting to a end and trying to keep things afloat, but dumb enough to stay with Ashley and trying to rip off Ray. The way Rockstar handled Johnny and the Lost in GTA V was terrible too, Trevor has almost no character compared to him.
I agree with you but I'd say Trevor is a very complex character, the more you dig into his character the more you see the reasons for his actions, of course most of them are because he is a deranged manic but some of them do make some sense. He does things based on how he is feeling, not on what could happen later on. Johnny does have more character than Trevor, but Trevor is by far the most complex character in all of GTA (coming second to Niko, of course)
@@acorn9595 Nah I’d say Michael is the most complex character, him being a traitor and hating himself for it instead of being fine with it like most other traitors in games or movies. Trevor comes in close tho he’s definitely more than just “unpredictable psycho meth head” guy

For them to just add bland characters like Ron, Oscar Guzman or villains that literally no one could care less about like fucking Triads. Imagine sheer fan service that rockstar would make if they decided to make Johnny Trevor's main villain or his good friend that he could've hang out with.
Another sad part is that johnny's voice actor is one of the rare that didn't talk trash about rockstar or had any heat with them. They could've kept him as a recurrent character. One part i found funny in gta 4 was everytime you have a mission with johnny as niko it goes to shit the most random way. It could've been sort of a running gag where everytime you see johnny you know something bad is about to happen. I really don't know why they did this tbh. There was a lot of potential with the character even as a side character. He even could've helped trevor in some side missions or something.

Nobody that actually know johnny or played tlad was happy with it. Tbh it was just bad writing that's it. It makes no sense for johnny to be this way and die without a fight. Hell i'd even argue it doesn't make sense for trevor either. He hates traitors so much and he's actually honest in his own twisted way. This is the only time you actually see trevor kill someone that he considered a friend (from the little we know with his introduction they seemed friendly). The only other time was with micheal but he never killed him himself he let him to die. Hell even in michael's death ending trevor is nowhere to be seen because he wouldn't participate in a treason. So yeah shock factor for the sake of shock factor no matter how much sense it makes. I hate when people do this it's so lazy.
@DaS29o it's not just an ending to his fictional biography, it's closure for his character, I frankly wouldn't mind CJ getting killed off by another character if it served a purpose in the grander narrative. Johnny and his gang getting killed by Trevor served a purpose (setting up how crazy homicidal Trevor was) and actually gave us him closure as a character, however brutally. Johnny was done as a character, he wasn't gonna come back in the spotlight and was just left in a nebulous state of non existence in the GTA canon like all other previous characters so why not use his otherwise pointless existence in the setting to set up something different, something new? I'd rather a character get a resolution rather then just... exist, while doing nothing in the sequels, you know? I mean, where is CJ during the events of GTAV? What's he doing? His gang has fallen apart and he's taking an extended vacation? Or maybe he is dead or in prison? We are never told, guess he didn't really matter at all in the long run, maybe he did get shived by some methead in a bar in Las Venturas and we aren't made aware of it. How about the other GTAIV characters, like Luis or Niko? Niko "going dark" after the absolute mess he did at the end (really throught) of GTAIV makes no sense but Rockstar couldn't bother actually coming up with a satisfying conclusion for him so... tough shit, I guess. Johnny? We know where Johnny is, shallow grave right outside of Los Santos, that's just fine by me. All these people are scumbags anyway, I'm not gonna feel bad for them whatever they end up collecting as a reward for their lives of crime.
My theory is that Johnny in GTA 5 is a clone of him. After the way the Lost and Damned ended, it seems completely out of character for him to go back to his old ways and start using meth.
Same i'd say this is easily the worst written part of gta 5. I do think that overall the game is great and the writing good. But this part is just straight out bad writing. No excuses there.
I remember playing the Lost and the damned dlc not long before playing GTA 5. Johnny seemed like a strong willed guy in the game. It was a definitely a shock watching him go out like that!?
Even though it's 8 years later, I still don't and can't believe that Johnny was killed. There's just no way a character like him can be killed so easily like that by trevor. In gta5 when you revisit the spot where he was at, the body is just gone, and my hope is that he got away, maybe he faked his death somehow. It would be one hell of a twist if he turned up alive the same way Michael did when trevor thought he was dead.

I liked GTA5, but I was and STILL am insulted at what they did to Johnny and how they killed him. Trevor was fine and all but him killing Johnny in such a disgusting way really colored my opinion of him as a character.
At this point it would be pretty difficult I think. I guess you could say he didn't die that day but then there'd be a LOT of questions as to how. I agree though, as a character, Johnny deserved better. At least our boy Luis wasn't ceremoniously killed off for shock value.

@@TheCriminalHistorian people have survived similair injuries to johnny, although it would be hard to explain why everyone refers to him as dead, plus he would likely be either physically or mentally crippled from getting his head split open like that, and also having a bit of his brain missing.
I’m really loving how this one ties into the main story more than TBoGT. Don’t get me wrong, I love TBoGT, but wow this is amazing so far and I’m like 12 minutes in haha. I’m starting the download right now so I can play this. Im feeling really bad about his death now :(

Its kind of a sad but ironic end with Johnny becoming a meth head. I fundamentally disagree with comments on here regarding him being killed off solely for shock value. It made storyline sense that Johnny was written out succumbing to the one weakness that he had. That was his feelings for Ashley. This was never going to end well for Johnny guys.
No it doesn’t, it would at least be internally coherent had tlad not ended with Johnny cutting his ties with Ashley and being able to “finally cut her loose” in his head. He had gotten over Ashley, and even when she was his weakness, it never went beyond giving her a handout or saving her from drug addicts or Russian mobsters. It doesn’t make sense that he would get back together with her after everything that had happened, and it definitely doesn’t make sense that he would turn to drugs because of her, not logically or story wise

I agree with the implications of Ashley being responsible for his fall. If only he was able to completely cut her off, he wouldn't even conflict with Trevor and continue doing business or if instability takes hold Johnny could certainly take the deranged dealer. R* made the Lost enemies and killed the key members off immediately. I don't know why R* wanted to cut off 4 so badly but this was a definite omen of their degradation as a company.

Unlike everyone else crying in this comment section I think Johnny and the whole Lost's death in GTA V makes sense. It follows a trend seeing in the rest of the GTA games where anytime a character shows up in a chronological later point in life it shows their life being fucked. Also, Johnny's "tough guy" and "I live by my own rules" mindset was frail and you could tell how little he cared about codes when he didn't hesitate to rip off Ray or kill Brian when the former offers him a deal and the latter supposedly offers him a truce (yes, Brian was also trying to backstab him, but that just shows how fragile "street codes" are). Johnny's end is the common end for criminals and their organizations: consumed by bigger meaner tougher criminals
I disagree. Story wise at-least.. it makes no sense whatsoever. The Lost had little to no members at the end of Tlad giving the impression that they had disbanded yet by the time of Gta 5 they’re looked at as one of the largest Motorcycle Clubs in the us, having multiple charters in Blaine County alone and being far larger then they’ve ever been. I agree that Johnny’s lifestyle & choices would’ve likely led to an early grave but definitely not how Rockstar handled his character in 5. I mean he literally became the very thing he despised ( disliking Ashley, Billy etc for taking drugs ) and yet he’s now seem as some weak old methhead who’s with a women he last questioned on killing. (End of Tlad, “why shouldn’t I kill you”) I think it’s fairly obvious to say that Rockstar used his character to make Trevor look crazy, it doesn’t really have any deeper meaning to it!
@@ilalkwgidn4739 recruiting members doesn't seem like an issue given that you have a constant supply of them for gang wars. Arguably a game mechanic, but it shows people could easily be recruited. Beyond that, during his tenure as President while Billy was in rehab, Johnny focused on making money. There is no reason to believe he wouldn't keep doing the same, given that he would need money to feed himself, Ashley, Angus, Jim's family, etc. And given his near-terrorist endeavors during the campaign of TLaD it's safe to assume he needed to leave and wouldn't be able to make money in other ways. As for Ashley, that's clearly a toxic relationship, the type of which it's hard to leave. All these things on Johnny's head would easily lead to him trying out meth at some point while still hanging around Ashley, who wouldn't care about giving him some meth.
Love your content, clearly a lot of effort goes into this. Just one note for characters like Brian Jeremy, when referring to them use their first or last names exclusively. "Jeremy initiated a truce even though Brian started the conflict. They met with Jeremy's faction but Brian began antagonizing Johnny." You get why that's confusing right?
@@TheCriminalHistorian Which could be shown any other way and was show in many other ways. I dont even think Lost should be in GTA V in way they are, it should be Angels of Death since they already operate in northern San Andreas/San Fierro and could expand south to Blaine county/Southern San Andreas. What could be done instead is story centered around Los Santos clubhouse of Lost helping the player in Online(especially since Malc is there) or in singleplayer to fight off Angels of Death from Southern San Andreas and then Johnny could have a cameo in this with rest of Aldreney Chapter coming to LS.
@@Kacpa2 It would've been so much better if johnny helps trevor get rid of the angels of death. Johnny would become a side character and give Trevor some missions to do and help him out. One part i thought was really funny in 4 was how everything always went to shit when Niko and johnny are together. They could've kept that with trevor and johnny where everytime you have a mission with the 2 it goes absolutely wrong in every way. But now we'll never have this.
Going through Johnny's story and have him be killed in GTA 5... I saw it as he always made bad choices throughout his whole life when he was young and hasn't change a bit. He would probably put a fight with Trevor if he didn't taken too much drugs. He shouldn't have got back with Ashley. His inability to make smart choices and unable to learn from his mistakes is what got him killed at the end. Rockstar wanted to show us that crime doesn't pay and not everyone gets a happy ending at the end. Our main characters are still human and can die anytime.
Well except crime did pay and Michael, Trevor and Franklin got a happy ending. Yes there are endings where Michael or Trevor die but they're not canon from what we know.
They fucked Johnny over big time with the cutscene with Trevor. Dude was my 2nd favorite GTA protagonist next to Niko. He was much deeper than most main characters. He wanted better, but they wrote him into a meth'd out tweaker to get his shit kicked in for shock value
Johnny's best asset, his heart, is ironically the one thing that ultimately did him in. That heart to help or follow his friends was exploited over and over again, as seen throughout TLAD. Johnny thought his friendship with Billy was tight, which blinded him to Billy's narcissism and jealousy, leading to the implosion of the Lost MC's Alderney chapter. Even though Johnny broke up with Ashley over her drug habits, he still returned time and time again to assist her, which I believe is the reason why he picked up her habits too. That heart of his was the reason why Johnny was unable to set boundaries, and in turn, made him blind to Billy's jealousy, as well as open him up to Ashley's poisonous influences. Had Johnny been able to say "enough" and put his foot down, maybe Johnny would still be alive post-2013. The irony of Johnny's story is that it was his closest associates that contributed to his downfall, since Billy was his childhood friend, while Ashley was his girlfriend at one point.

You have more guns, the shotguns are just too fun to use, you can call terry and clay to help and they sometimes give you interesting scenarios, etc. Idk he was just more fun to play around for me. Of course the dlc wasn't perfect but johnny was one of the highlight of the whole gta 4 experience to me.

I’m gonna get flack for saying this as much as I liked johnny playing as him and getting to know him as a character…I wasn’t really sad when he was killed by Trevor. But at the same time I really wished he would’ve stayed alive for gta online as an NPC.

I personally don't find GTA V to be canonical Because non of what's in there, matches up with the story of TLAD The Lost was supposed to end just like that, no more other gang members to rebuild it in San Andreas and not even Johnny wanted to rebuild the Lost after what he's been through Plus, the only dominant biker gang left, is the Angels of Death, and their main HQ is in San Andreas

LOL, I know its not gonna happen but imagine a piece of plot in GTA VI where it turns out that Johnny actually survived this encounter and was landed in a coma for over a decade and he came back to settle a score with Trevor as we know canonically Trevor left Los Santos and left for Vice City. There Johnny settle the score but this time and becomes a contact for Jason. Oh boy, i hope that Jason gonna have biker background or at least somewhat of it. I also think that it would be cool if both Jason and Lucia would have some shared contacts and some private/unique to their character...just like we had in GTA V

I don’t understand why Johnny didn’t change his ways. He was obviously the voice of reason in the Gang but wouldn’t go legit even after burning down the biker hangout.
I keep thinking back to one of Angus’s lines in IV. “I’ve seen what it does to some of the brothers (methamphetamine)” Its a quick throwaway line that was delivered with melancholy and dread, to drive home Ashley’s endless hell loop. Never would i have thought it to be for shadowing for our charismatic witty Jewish biker protagonist, but as disrespectful for the simple sake of shock value it was, depressingly it’s plausible. That cutscene cuts deep even still today when I see it, just such an unnatural site regardless of the plausibility, he was written so strong headed. To be fair I’ve encountered meth myself and it’s not particularly interested how strong anyone is, you’re its bottom bitch. Rockstar really drove that home
Johnny should have just said “fuck you” to Ashley and he would’ve been fine and ALIVE in GTA 5 15:19 and the way Johnny said “fuck you” makes me laugh so hard
I wish that these games would have missions that actually went according to plan every once in a while. Like every deal he tried to do gets raided or shot up and most games are like that its predictable that its gonna go wrong. Personally i just prefer if it were somewhat more realistic

Johnny was my favorite character I couldn't believe that it happened, but I hope that in the next GTA whatever new character comes along they will kill Trevor in a worse way than what happened to Johnny

Great video, i was very shocked when i first saw johnnys death in gta 5, he wasnt my favourite gta character but i still spent a lot of time playing as him in gta 4 tlad, i was disappointed that he got back into a relationship with Ashley again who apparently was Billys girlfriend before Johnny and shes probably slept with the entire lost mc, johnny was definitely weaker in gta 5 but in his defence Trevor caught him off gaurd and glassed him with a bottle before killing him so it wasn't exactly a fair fight!
