Salvatore Leone was such a cool character! I’m glad LCS was more mafia oriented so we got to see the character a lot more since Frank Vincent did a really great job!
I’m not even sure I’d call him an antagonist. Well, not in San Andreas and certainly not LCS. He’s just a mob boss who got betrayed by CJ and it made him paranoid.
By definition he Is, I understand what your trying to say but he just is. Even before cj screwed him, to be an antagonist you have to oppose the mc, regardless of motive and execution. Cj was doing work for him, sure, but in service to a end goal. Just a stepping stone for cj. That's applicable to Claude too. There was just no true loyalty.
Special thanks to Ryder, Ygzeb, and ArthurMorgan's Catto for help reviewing this episode's script for lore mistakes. If you notice any mistakes in my videos please let me know in a comment. I will append anything I find to pinned comments from now on. In this video: Some people have pointed out to me that Salvatore does actually imply that Joey's mother, (his first wife) actually died.
I don't mean this as a real negative but I noticed it as immersion breaking that you mention personal situations of the main characters in detail yet the sources get mixed when it comes to the most major crimes with branching paths. This is a totally personal matter but I'd rather get an assumption of a Canon route and less of the personal lives of the characters, more immersive I guess
Ok, I’ll admit, you caught me off guard. I was expecting this to only cover the main antagonists(Salvatore is the secondary antagonist in 3). Does this mean the other secondary antagonists (Lance Vance, Big Smoke, Paulie Sindacco, King Courtney, Jerry Marteniz, Jimmy Pegorino, Ray Boccino, Rocco, Et Cetera) are going to be covered?
Honestly other then Paulie, all the secondary antagonists probably have enough material to make a full video on. (And GTA LCS doesn’t have much to work with on the main villain either, so you could probably do both of them as a double feature)
@@kalkuttadrop6371 i think he's going to do those in the same videos, like 3 antagonists per videos or smt like that, he made an update video if your interested
This paranoid, manipulative and narcissistic old bastard Salvatore did not deserve such a young, sweet and beautiful girl like Maria. He seduced her, young and stupid, and for 9 years did not respect her, humiliated, abused, treated her as a commodity, as a toy, as property, as garbage, and not as a woman, did not pay any attention to her, called her used goods and cheated on her himself with hoes from the JD club, later the Luigi club. Why did he seduce her, for what? After all, no one forced the 57-year-old, self-respecting Don of one of the most powerful mafia Families to seduce a 17-year-old young and stupid girl with her whole life ahead into their insidious tentacles. Rather, for the amusement of his ego, to maintain his high status, for the sake of a trophy... Sal looked after the young and stupid Maria and decided to use her as a reflection of his own status, implying that he would treat her as a commodity and not as a woman. And, as you know, the trophies are kept in the closet to be looked at and admired. Don't forget that Sal was once married before he met Maria. And, apparently, for quite a long time, considering that his first Signora Leone (so respectfully addressed to a married Italian woman) gave him a son Joey in 1968, a wonderful car mechanic and, perhaps, the heir to the entire Criminal Empire, so they got married in the mid-60s, they were together for more than 20 years. I think there was trust, attention and love between them. His first wife truly loved and appreciated him the most. Just like he loved and appreciated her. But, unfortunately, by 1992 (the events in San Andreas) Sal was already a widower. It is not known from what his first wife died: from a fatal illness, an accident or died during the mafia wars. I believe that deep down, despite all his cruelty and paranoia, he continued to love his first deceased wife and spoke well of her (a conversation with Joey is an example of this), and Maria was for him like Claude for Catalina after CJ, a temporary consolation. A trophy wife, expensive property and a handy toy, which sooner or later he can safely get rid of. Only he miscalculated, and she began to take revenge on him with her annoying behavior and terrible deeds in LCS. For 6 years of cruel, humiliating, disgusting, abusing and disrespectful attitude of her heartless, paranoid, manipulative and narcissistic husband, she turned into an ugly, terrible, annoying, obnoxious, hysterical and selfish drug addict witch, confident in her exceptional appearance, spending Sal's money and making troubles for him and Antonio. I don't condone her behaviour, it can’t be justified, no doubt, but I can't blame her for all the troubles either. Don’t lie to yourself. Salvatore never loved Maria. He just used her as a trophy wife and a handy toy just for his high status and prestige.
Been replaying the 5 3D games of the era and I really forgot just how good Salvatore's section in SA was. I pretty much only think of LCS and 3 when I think of him.
I love your videos extremely good quality and you have gotten me to take a new look at these characters and the cities of the games due to your series so far
Here are top 5 Don Salvatore Leone’s biggest mistakes that costed him life: 5. Invested in rival Mafia Family’s casino and burned on that. 4. Blindly trusted CJ and was betrayed which caused him dangerous paranoia. 3. Scammed Toni Cipriani paying him just half-million. 2. Betrayed Claude because of distrustful to outsiders and outliving his usefulness You can start a butthurt, you can criticise me, you can hate me, but… 1. Poisoned and ruined Maria’s life. Sal was a powerful Don, a gentleman for friends (except for Maria, of course), a lovely father and merciless for enemies. But, to be honest, Mafia Bosses never live long. They all end up in jail or in grave. Salvatore escaped jail but his paranoia, distrust to everyone, believing in conspiracies, megalomania, endless lust for power and following the rule “betray first before you could be betrayed” clouded his judgment and made him lost his mind. So, it’s not surprise that the fatal fate had caught him one day. That was Salvatore Leone, Don of the most powerful Mafia Family, gangster of Portland, dangerous paranoid, perfect manipulator, vain narcissist, cruel criminal and now… the legend.
22:25 salvatore’s uncle is based on Uncle Junior of the Sopranos , it’s similar concept , Tony went to civil war with Uncle junior just as Salvatore went to war with his uncle representing Sicily. “Every Dog has his days” that dialogue came from Scarface.
One of the things i love about Salvatore is that he is one of the most dangerous kinds of criminals the ones you can trust, or honest ones he never betrays anyone without first being betrayed himself and always follows through when he intends to get someone, with the lone exceptions being CJ and claude. Claude got out thanks to Maria, and CJ's just felt like lazy and forgetful writing to me. either way, his word is one that can usually be trusted, which makes it all the more scary if he damns someone, and more meaningful to do work for him, with Tony Cipriani being rewarded for all the work he put in for the Leones
The reason he didn’t go after Cj because Cj was on the west coast he didn’t have ppl there plus the triads and Cj would’ve killed his ppl and he was in a war in the east coast he couldn’t afford to lose that’s why he didn’t go after cj and with Claude he betrayed Claude first by offering him to the Cartel you may blame Maria for it but Salvatore always planned on betraying Claude since he’s not Italian so he lied about having him made knowing it was a fake
It would not surprise me if Tony took over the family instead of Joey after Salvatore was hit. I think Tony would have made a better, much more suitable Don given how much he did for Salvatore to prove himself as a top guy. Saying that Salvatore always found a way to screw Tony over time and time again so he likely got screwed over one last time and had that hot head Luigi take over the family.
It would be such cool fan service from rockstar if they released a GTA game set in like the 60s where you play as Sal and get to witness his ascend to power.
He was one of the top 20 great characters in the GTA series and also top 20 great antagonist in GTA series. His paranoia is what got him killed at the end.
Not only paranoia, but also his vain narcissism, distrust to everyone, megalomania, endless lust for power and following the rule “Betray them first before they betray you”. All of these clouded his judgment and made him lost his mind. So it’s not surprise that the fatal fate had caught him one day.
@@Spartak2811 Irony, he followed those rules and it got him killed at the end. Another irony, back San Andreas, he was trying to back stabbed everyone first, but CJ beat him to it. This lead to his paranoia. Or it made his paranoia a lot worst and caused him to lost his mind if you know what I mean. :D
I could imagine if anyone mentions the name CJ or Carl Johnson to Salvatore Leone after 1992. He will completely lose his shit. I can’t blame Salvatore if he did that since the CJ incident really bothered Salvatore Leone.
That’s true. Unfortunately, by 1992, Sal was a widower. It is still unknown why his first wife died, from fatal illness, accident or she was killed during mafia wars, but I’m sure, her death was a huge strike for him and damaged him good. He became frivolous malignant narcissist and started to look for young and silly girls much younger than him for maintaining his high status and prestige. Maria is an example. I’m sure that despite his cruelty and paranoia deep inside his soul he still loved his first deceased wife and he talked good about her, as I think she loved and appreciated him the most, same as he did. And Maria was just a temporary consolation. A trophy wife and a handy toy that he can rid of sooner or later, but he miscalculated. He never loved Maria, he just needed a handy toy. Salvatore didn’t deserve Maria.
Nice job on the video! Salvatore is one of my favorites in Liberty City Stories. Also, I got so excited about Salvatore that I disliked the video by accident. Had to fix that mistake, oof. In the near future, will Candy Suxxx be covered?
More I played LCS, more I hate Salvatore. Yeah, while many LCS fans love Sal, I absolutely hate and despise him. He’s one of the most overrated and annoying characters in the whole series. He tries to seem to be a Big Boss, a Great Gangster, but in reality he's just a sneaky, treacherous, manipulative, narcissistic, unstable and pathetic old man, who lost his mind with his paranoia, megalomania and endless lust for power. We also saw that he's a lustful womanizer for whom women are just toys. Especially with his unhappy trophy wife Maria whom he showed his true nature - he never loved her. He insults and humiliates her, he treats her like a trash, like a toy, like a commodity, like a trophy, not like a woman, he neglects her and doesn't pay any attention for her, and, what most players don't want to see, he cheats on her with strippers and hookers in JD's brothel. We saw him in brothel twice (Don in 60 Seconds and Salvatore Salvation). He's a frequent customer of this brothel (later Luigi's Sex Club 7), later in III Luigi also confirmed that his girls miss him. And he calls Maria a slut? He's a hypocrite. He was interested in her just for prestige, status and sex. Platonic-materialistic relationships. These relationships never end up good. Salvatore poisoned and ruined Maria’s life. I was happy when he got imprisoned. I enjoyed to see how he was bullied, how he suffers. That's how paranoia, vain narcissism, megalomania and endless lust for power ruin him, how they corrupt his heart and make him lose his mind. And, in the end, he scammed Toni Cipriani, paying him for EVERYTHING for the Leone Family supremacy just a pathetic half-million instead of one or two. He deserved one or two million cause no one did for the Leone Family like Toni. Time put everything on their places. In III Leone lost their power and influence, Salvatore's throne of Liberty City Kingpin swayed beneath him, and his paranoia, megalomania and endless lust for power with following the rule "Betray first before you could be betrayed" will lead him to fatal fate. And he got what he deserved. I have a useful advice to you: if you’re young and beautiful girl (I hope so), have a strong character and fortitude to insist insidious tentacles and stay away from lustful womanizers like Salvatore or they’ll poison and ruin your life just like Maria’s. Maria deserved much butter and worthy man in her life than this scum.
