You're 100% right. I also think as artists age they hide themselves and become reclusive because they feel they were only good when they were young and first famous, they feel they have to live up to something they can't be like anymore. But the truth audience doesn't care about this
The level of emotional involvement achieved by the Smiths in such a short time is just unbelievable. Legendary in so many ways, I am sure many will still remember their feelings and where they were 35 years ago, when listening to these songs...
I love Fender Jaguars and I own one and had owned several before my current one but for The Smiths songs I just don't hear it being the right guitar sound. Wish he would go back to Strats, Teles and Rics with then occasional Gretsch and Gibson.
A funny thing - despite having written so many of his own songs now, it's only when singling Morrissey's lyrics that Johnny Marr seems to truly come alive.
Johnny can't really sing Smiths songs but his band sure can play them! Moz can sing Smiths songs but his band sure can't play them Is it really so strange?
I just watched Morrisey's version of this. It's actually better hearing Marr playing the guitar. ACtually, he's doing a pretty good job of singing Morrisey's lyrics. Better than I expected. OK, shit, now I gotta go see this.
Johnny Marr’s guitar work on this is brilliant. Check out my other video of Johnny performing ‘Stop Me…’ from Benicassim in 2013 - equally as good as this. Cheers!
