Listen closely - you'll hear one of the best Country singers - his pitch is always right on! Johnny has been a my favorite country singer forever - blessed to have these videos in his memory....
I think Paycheck is the most underrated country singer of all. His voice was second only to George Jones. In my opinion, his peak years were in the mid to late '60s when he was on the Little Darlin' record label. In that time he released some of the best hardcore honky-tonk country music ever.
This man dont sing about pain.He pours it out naturally from the bottom of his soul and makes life so much a better place for millons of broken hearts. Johnny aint a musician he is a Country Soul singing Doctor that cure heart aches that no medication will ever heal.
George jones said it best when he said who's going to fill their shoes and Alan Jackson and George Strait did not lie when they said there's been a murder on music row and don't forget Conway and Gary Stewart Farron Young Freddy Hart Charlie Rich moe and Joe and the list goes on and on these people never use no audio tuner's unlike these so-called country people today they saying about life and from the heart
Sadly, we will never see great country music like this again, I don't think. Thank God for youtube. This is where I get all my country music these days.
I was eleven years old when hank Williams died. I remember where i was when i was told about him dying. Have loved Country music all my life, but do not listen to today's ,what they call country,music"... As George Jone's said, "they need to get their own music". I miss those wonderful long note's with beautiful voices instead of the "sh@$ they call country today.. I keep my radio of the oldie's.....
If you want to her perfect pitch - now's your chance. Dear Johnny has always been one of my very favorite Country singers. Not just his pitch, but his phrasing and rhythm are also outstanding. I'm so glad we have these videos to remember him by.
For a very long time, Johnny has been my favorite Country singer. The simplicity of his phrasing, timing and always right-on pitch is unmistakable. I go back and watch his videos, like this one, time and time again. Conne in Wichita
Love that Johnny Paycheck. Saw him in concert LONG LONG ago, he had just gottn his dental work done..Bloody mouth, pain killers(??)...performance= AWESOME !!!!
gosh what happened to country these days now paycheck,Hag,Jones,Tom.t hall an many others are and or would be sick hearing todays stuff that they call country!
Johnny is one of the least recognized artists ever. He was a brilliant singer and songwriter. Rest in peace Johnny and maybe one day you will get the credit you truly deserve.
I think Jamie Johnson is our new modern day Hank Williams Jr. I'm 27, and when I'm 50 Jamie is one of the VERY few guys I'm gonna be remembering. Johnny Paycheck is my ultimate hero though. I can't say that he's ever really written a song that isn't sad, but he is the king of sad songs for sure! We love you Johnny Paycheck!!! R.I.P.
I met Johnny back in the early 80s. He was standing outside a bar in Homestead, Fla smoking a cigarette by himself. I said, hey Johnny let me get a picture with you. He said, come on.....He was really a nice guy !!!
Paycheck is sooo cool here. And his fellow artists loved him, too. When Billy Sherrill asked Jody Miller with whom she'd like to record "Let's All Go Down to the River", she asked for Paycheck, because he was her favorite singer. Right on, Jody...
how can you not love this song or any of his songs. he managed to get 11 hits to the top ten. i think thats an accomplishment. yet ive heard from several people that he was a one hit wonder. honestly he had songs better than shove it. i lkie me and the irs and im the only hell my mama ever raised. those are my favorites.
I think the country/pop wannabe musicians of today need to take a tip from a guy like Paycheck and this video is a great example of that. Simple, stripped down, and no soulful run-on notes is what makes this song work. More importantly, not one sour note came out of Johnny's mouth when he sang this live. Great song from a great musician. RIP, Paycheck!
About 6 years ago I was in a relationship with a wealthy woman who was neglected by her husband. We had a good thing going on til I had to break it off one night having internalized how wrong it was to bed another man's wife. She was literally begging me to stay a little longer while he was traveling for work, I couldn't. I was driving home that night when I turned on the radio and this song was the first thing to come on. Near the end I had to pull over and just think about how perfectly this song described my life at that moment.
JP did a private show for the atlanta falcons at the furman univ. dining hall around 1973 or4. They let the furman players come to the show. It was awesome, thanks still to Claude Humphries for getting him there.
Does anyone know the name of the concert and year this was performed? Trying to find the full version for the "I Did The Right Thing" segment from this exact concert. The video pertaining was unfortunately removed from RU-vid a while ago...
92.1 Country Classics out of Fort Worth 95.9 The Ranch out of Fort Worth ... and.. as mentioned earlier... 96.3 KSCS, also out of Fort Worth. All of these stations will play Johnny, especially 92.1
@ROCKANDROLLDJ79 Before Waylon or Willie? Hardly my friend. Willie and Waylon both were recording and writing in the early 60's. Johnny had hit records too, but Wanted: Outlaws broke open everything. If not for the success of that album none of them may have been heard from again. Hag has been going strong since the late 60's himself.
