Awww, two of my faves! I’m retired from a blessed and busy 60 year career as a studio singer and spent six wonderful years singing backup on Dean’s TV show during the golden 60s.Dean was the greatest boss you could imagine, kind, funny, deeply respectful for all of us lucky enough to work with him. He was a consummate pro and I really miss those years. I used to get asked about his “drinking.” Apple juice. Rest In Peace, Boss. You are deeply missed.
@ Diana Lee- I never missed a Dean Martin Show. A beautiful voice 💜 and so funny 😁 😂. Also you never knew who was going to come in the door or down the pole !
@@morrisdonte8110 Just fine 🙂 now that I got to watch my favorite 😍 Johnny Carson show this morning. I never laughed so hard 🤣 😂 so much as I did watching that !
I was 13 when this aired I'm 56 now , where did time go? Wish I could go back to that time , the country was so much better then , aside from gas lines!
I was in my teens in the 70's and remember my dad always watching the roasts, he would laugh non-stop from start to finish. this was entertainment at it's finest.
Dean and Johnny were legends who are missed terribly. They both lost their sons in accidents. Dean's son Dino in a jet accident in 1987. Johnny's son Rick in a car accident in 1991.
Im a young kid 25 years old but look at the class they all had. They all were dressed to the nine. Even Ed, the co host. Now guys come in leather jackets and jeans and sneakers.
Dean could do it all, act, sing, dance, comedy and host. He was the total package without EVER being offensive. His passion though was for singing and said so on many occasions. True class which is very non existent today.
@@AB-ce5fg Back in those days smoking was considered harmless as people like Gleason , Sammy Davis Jr., Dino , etc.had a cig attached to their lips constantly. We lost many great entertainers due to the 'smoke' .
Dean is my favorite singer ever. We had his music playing at my wedding and everybody loved it. No chamber music was played. After we were pronounced husband and wife, instead of the traditional walking up the aisle music, we danced up the aisle to "Ain't That A Kick In The Head"! Everybody cheered and clapped. During the reception, we played Dino, Sinatra, Bobby Darin, etc. and we were thanked all evening for not having tasteless music played. We were young too. We've been married for 18 years now. Once a week now, we have a nice sit-down dinner while the above singers serenade us as we decompress.
@davidmartin1949 How much of today's late night have you actually watched, a clip here and there? You can't base a respectable opinion on that. And, fun fact.. DIFFERENT GENERATION. What you found funny at 25 is not what today's 25 year Olds find funny. The world, sadly, is a much colder, cruelest place than it was.
I love these old reruns of Dean on Carson's show. I think a lot of people dont realize how funny Dean Martin was besides being a singer and hosting a verity show. All the greats, like Dean, and Johnny to, are gone now, but they will never be forgotten.
That was classic Dean, my dad use to let me sneak out of bed to watch it with him and he almost choked to death he was laughing so hard.. Too bad the shows these days just are not funny at all, After Letterman retired that was pretty much the end of late night comedy.
This was so great, Dean was so funny, he truly was a great entertainer.. and being on the same stage as Johnny, they were hilarious.. But it's sad they are no longer with us,. Anyone that remembers them must miss them like I do...
Dean: I'm here to "plug" Charlie's Angels. 4:02. Audience whooped it up. Surprised Johnny turned down the opportunity to run with that. Dean was always tremendously entertaining. Miss them both.
I used to massage my Mom's feet after her long day and we would be watching Johnny Carson and would wake up my Dad because we were laughing so much!! God Bless!!
It's so hard to believe they're gone forever. Seems like only yesterday when I'd be lying on our livingroom floor in front of a huge RCA Colortrak TV set, watching _"The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson"_ with my parents.
Me too… 70’s kid laying in front of TV. Parents would only let us watch once in a while due to late time and some inappropriate content lol 😂 now I’m loving it ! Love classic shows/movies/stars! 🤩❤️ both legends
When I was a teenager I used to get home late from work or maybe a date, and my mother would always be watching Johnny Carson. We loved to watch together and just laugh. How I miss those days!! 💖💖💖
I'm glad I grew up as a boy getting to stay up on weekends watching Johnny and his guests, such as Dean. They don't make them this big anymore. What a presence. What an entertainer.
Today's hosts could learn a lot from these guys. Yet watching Dean whom I loved growing up, knowing the sadness he went through losing his son, makes this segment heartfelt. RIP Johnny and Dean.
3:05 I just love Dean Martin I ran into Dean Martin when with my family in Los Angeles during the 1980s and he was pumping gas in his station wagon and said hi to all of us he's a very nice and wonderful man a great singer and a good actor we all will surely Miss Dean Martin
I miss Johnny. Thank you to whoever is posting these wonderful videos from his shows. They bring back so many memories…makes me feel young again when I watch these.
Me too. He was on too late or I had to work. Johnny would charm the elderly women so well they'd have to tell him THEY WERE MARRIED. He'd have all kinds of guests not just celebs. Graham Norton is fun!
At least we have viewers who know and appreciate these type comedians yet today. And technology allows us to go back, watch and remember what was great TV. Thank you to the person who brings this to us!
When Johnny passed so did an era...that time will never be back again...I feel privilege to have grown up watching that ..such class to TV but now its just bla...wanabees
You know you're getting old when you know the stars appearing on Carson's show a whole lot better than the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. These dudes are so much funnier than the comedians of today.
You got that right. Even though I was born in the 1970s, I love Carson and his guests more than that phoney Fallon. It's such a pity Hollywood has such few greats left and a guy hosting a late night talk show who couldn't be more fake than the plastic on Cher.
@@milk-it So well said! I used to write about Cher’s plastic surgery back in the ‘80s. And Fallon is fake. Those stupid contests he does get on my last nerve. And he thinks he can sing! 😱
@@LisaGemini Thanks, Lisa. Yes, he really has no talent. When he talks to guests, he often interjects with irrelevant comments and smiles or laughs at the wrong time. That's why I think he's disingenuous, because he's palpably detached from his guest.
Dang! sure do miss the days with entertainment like these guys, there will never be anymore like them, ever! RIP Dean and Johnny, and all of those from the days that are gone...Amen!
Dean Martin is a real character. People don't realize that Martin wasn't just a singer. He was a real first rate comedian. This man knew how to deliver a punch line. His entire schtick was build around the drinking and appearing half lite. He was a devoted husband and somewhat of a home body. He didn't drink that much, but the act fit the times. We just don't see entertainers like this anymore. Variety shows went away and the only way to see these guys, was in Vegas.
He was unfaithful to his wife but they remained close after the divorce. His drinking was NOT all fake, he was a moderate drinker and after his son’s death Dean became an alcoholic. He was incredibly talented as an actor and of course a singer.
@@onlythewise1 I know, we would see this movies all the time on the Mel Jass matinee movies each afternoon, which was broadcast in the Twin Cities during the 60's. Martin appeared mostly with Jerry Louis, but being part of the Rat Pack. He was also seen with Sinatra in a few films.
Yup, at this time in the late 70's Johnny had stopped drinking after going through AA, so there wasn't a chance that Johnny would drink something with Alcohol in it.
Oh you got that right. Boy was that night ever hilarious or what?! I think that night was the night that Deano said something that got Blooped Out, and Bob Hope said that wanted to get a seat in the Parole Car when it came. I think they even got Bleeped Again that night. Does anyone else out there remember this episode of The Tonight Show? I'm telling you, it was Great, as well ad Memorable!!!❤️🥰😍🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️
Johnny always knew how to interact with his guests ... he never over- shadowed them & let them shine. Always enjoyed Dean Martin's variety show more than the roasts . Dean got to sing on the variety show...a big plus ! Also really liked Dean's Matt Helm spy-comedy movies ...my favorites were The Ambushers & Murderer's Row .. They had great casts & storyline. I remember ABC always showed Matt Helm movies before they got the rights to the James Bond films.
Dean was on a roll at that time, being just halfway thru his uber popular "Dean Martin Variety Hour" which ran a staggering 10 years. He would just pop over to Johnny's set during filming and do a guest appearance, sometimes with his own guests sitting alongside!
Love the mutual respect and admiration. Both are irreplaceable. Each, One of a kind. Miss those days, watching both with my Pop, in his favorite green chair, getting to stay up late and laughing together.. man what great memories .
Oh my God, when the Audience came forth with a Super Loud Standing Ovation for Dean, it made me tear up out of Happy Appreciation for him !!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
That was a great era with Dean Martin and the Rat Pack and all the other greats who worked that era. God Bless both Dean Martin and Johnny Carson and all the other greats.
God help me those were the days. I was a kid in the 70s and I used to think Dean Martin was awesome. Dude had a killer tan, was always drunk and yet his comedic timing was just sharp as a pin. RIP Dean, Ed, and Johnny
I love Mr Dean Martin I always will he didn't have a tan that was his natural look because he is Italian he was Italian and he wasn't drunk if he was such a drunk he wouldn't be so good and show business he is a success all the way and just wonderful anybody that thinks he was a girl is really stupid
When the king of cool tells you live " people love you and you are the best entertainer on TV " it certainly means that you did quite a few things with talent the right way during a long period of time .
How do you know they were always real? As well as the 44 that liked this.

because his friends and family said so when he was on stage doing his act it was apple juice he drank read Deana Martin book about her her father Ricci Martin book about his father and the book Jerry Lewis book about Dean everyone say the same thing thing that what he drank on stage was apple juice 16:54
@@minecraftbuilder3110 People who knew the rat pack and his son are the most reliable reporters I'd say and the consensus is that Dean could drink plenty of J&B Scotch but would cut it off earlier in the evening than the rest. Also, he drank on air frequently but not as drunk as he would pretend. He liked to have a light buzz when he was doing his act on some nights and on others he would just have apple juice.
Finally, you uploaded this piece of gold. I have been waiting for this segment for months. Dean Martin is the coolest singer I've ever seen.😍 A smooth Italian ❤
These 2 were something else, some my all time favorites. Dean even well under the influence of that adult beverage still knows how to put out great comedy.
Grew up watching Dean & all the variety shows. Loved Dean, I always start my holiday season with Dean's Christmas CD. Loved Johnny too, when comedy was actually funny, & clean.
Great watching these clips. I remember watching Carson, Martin, Columbo programs etc. with my Mom. My dad was often on the road and knowing she was at home with my youngest brother as only company at the old farm, I would cut date, pool, and hanging out with frieds nights short so I coulkd come back and be with her. I think she appreciated it.
Ha ha ha ha ha, I loved what you said, because I noticed it too, but you worded it perfectly, when you said "he just wiggles in anticipation of seeing Dean." AND HE DID😆
I was born in 63 and even though I was young, I recall having a crush on Dean Martin when I was in elementary school :) Nowadays I love listening to his butter smooth singing voice when I lay down for the night. Also, at age 55 I found out my bio dad was not the man who raised me! Turns out my bio dad is half Italian and I now credit that to my longtime love of Italian men, food, language, culture :)
