I saw the movie way back in 5th grade. When Johnny burnt his hand on melted metal, I had a flashback then in that I burnt my hand in the oven using pot holders to get a pizza out that I was cooking. I ran it under the water faucet, and it formed a bubbly blister, something I never anticipated then. Somewhere along the line later, it formed blood bubbles, it was disgusting.
Ol' Walt made this movie because he was getting a rep for being soft on Communism....the movie is not historically accurate, but it captures a feeling, and face it, you'd have to be emotionally dead to be untouched by the film. It's a Cold War film, pure and simple.
What in the world are history teachers using valuable class time to show this movie for? It's just a fiction MOVIE. Read the documents of the era for Pete's sake. Leave this and 1776 for family time. God help us if we, as a nation, get our history this way.
Horribly dreadfully BORING book. The only impact it left on me was the sudden realization of how much time i wasted reading this snore fest. Of course i was forced to read it because of an essay i had too do. Now excuse me while order a couple hundred copies of it to burn.
the book is way better than the movie! the movie dont even show isannah, madge, dorcas, and john hancock, it didn't even tell when rab died!!! i had to read the book for literature class from a rating of 1-10, the book would b a 5, an average
...for we are the sons, we are the sons,, the sons of Bigotry.... we will follow oh, we will follow oh ...for we are the sons, we are the sons,, the sons of Bigotry.... we will follow oh, we will follow oh
The movie, Johnny Tremain may be a bit corny, I've not read the book but what truly matters is the attempt at inspiring those who watch or read it to appreciate what makes America unique. We are only 2oo plus old, why did we surpass other countries approaching 5-6 hundred or more centuries old?
God my fucking school banned movies in class . Other classes are watching it because they dont have snitches. Our class has them they freaking tell about everything ...
I don't really care what other YT commentators say, in terms of negative criticism. I like this TV show .. always have. And to be sure .. Disney, as a person, did have his faults, shortfalls & weaknesses. But what human being doesn't. It's what people do right & good that counts the most. And Disney made good, stirring, inspiring product. Much of it was ahead of its time, too.
If I recall correctly, the first time I read Johnny Tremain, it was because of being on the required reading list. I was mad as hell, especially when the books on the school's list always had a beginning that was too slow. But then I got into it. And I really enjoyed the book, so much so that not long afterwards, I went back and reread. It must've been several years now, but all this talk about the Am. Rev. makes me want to go look for it. But the movie looks like it butchered it. Sorry. XP
To think I got to sit next to Hal Stalmaster & his wife yesterday for Johnny Tremain event @ Walt Disney Family Museum. That was a blast & great honor meeting him & getting to hear what was it like recreating American history in the movie & how the silver-burning scene worked (utilizing a stunt double) :)
no but i'm reading the book now. its really good but i think its sort of weird that on the cover johnny is like in the revolutionary war and they don't even start talking about events leading up to it halfway through the book. i hope we watch this movie!
